  1. mitsy, is it difficult to maintain your kind of sink? thinking over undermount or inset coz worry water might seep between the sink and the top. but if get inset cut food no place for the water to flow...
  2. also the kind of material you want, the general style you are looking at etc what i did was look around for packages, remove those i didn't want and add in those i want, then i went down to IMM and took name cards from every company, asking them to photocopy my flr plan. then i send the list to everyone specifying the material for everything and wait for their quotes. from there i have a gauge of the pricing and pick the few i like then visit ongoing projects...
  3. thanks for the advice. have included the specific material when i ask around for quote (me being the kiasu one)... now trying to upload the photos i took so that i can create a renoblog come to think of it, maybe my tiles are those white with pink tinge, though for the **** of me can't tell it's white at all! :faint: bluberi, guess my reno cost will be significantly lower than your coz other than my kitchen, not going to spend money anywhere else. no feature wall, no BIW, no tv console or any other carpentry work at all. my budget for everything is around $10k to $15k. hopefully won't bust it if not got to take loan liao. for my case, it's cheaper to take those credit card fund transfer than reno loan coz of the tie-in period...
  4. oh dear, that doesn't sound very good does it? though having windows at the balcony, may not be at home to close it when it rains... submitted my defect lists to hdb yesterday. the lady at the counter took a long time coz their system designed to take a maximum of 5 defects per page. so she got to type, print, create new case, type, print, create new case... she managed to consolidate some of the items together but still got a lot of defects. five items per page, total six or seven pages wonder how long they will take to rectify the defects, even my main door is not spared. door knob can't spring back to position, cracks and holes all over the door. did you notice a lot of holes on the walls? it's like polka dots all over the place! worse is the water stain in the HHS. can't imagine a HHS which has water seeping from upstairs !! the contractors also did a slip-shod job at places where they think we won't check. i can still see plaster 'dripping' from under the vanity counter support, they didn't even bother cleaning it. all the floor tiles either faded, stained or dirtied. thank goodness we went down to clean the place up coz we thought it was just dirty initially. both hands' index finger blistered, guess that shows how little housework i do. hehehe
  5. i'm also not expert in this area the info i gleaned from going round and round is that solid plywood is just thicker than normal plywood. ply is good enough for shoe cabinet, display cabinet where there's no heavy weight items. solid ply is good for shelving for book shelves, kitchen cabinet shelves etc...
  6. can someone pm me their contact no. and email? maybe will get them since i've got a general idea of what to do not much carpentry work, no false ceiling or feature wall furniture all bought so guess contractor more practical for me. tia !!
  7. took a good look and realise that the tiles are not really pink dun know how to describe and the colour doesn't show on the photo it's more peach and tinges of it, like different shades of peach like that found a few hollow tiles but dun know should continue to find out or just forget it confirmed defects are the window frames, the common toilet think will do what some of the forummers did - wash the floor to see if there are cracks on the tiles. it's so dirty that even if there are cracks or chips i also cannot see. hopefully the hdb officer will be quick in rectifying the defects so envy your reno going to start soon you will be seeing your empty flat turned into your home can't wait for my turn!!! wow, the hanging chair is worth it! when i've settled everything else and have spare budget, may go for it too now having big headache, me being the same old fickle-minded me changed my mind about the sink liao, not buying a hob also (will bring old one from home) hopefully i won't change my mind too late in the renovation process !!
  8. not very sure for the rest of the items but re-run stainless steel piping for whole unit - $550 (labour to install bath acc free but not sure about WC and basin) paint whole unit including piping, doors, frames etc $1300 (nippon 3-in-1) my flat is EA 134sqm
  9. anyone use shawn as their ID? emailed their general email for a quote and he is the one who got back to me.
  10. went down today and took some pix but lazy to upload will do it tomorrow somehow everytime i go down to the new place end up feeling very sapped, dun know is the excitement or what... didn't do a good job checking for hollow tiles, just knock knock a bit here a bit there think tomorrow must be a good girl and go down to do a thorough check but knock knock a bit also can find two hollow tiles you think should i live with it or complain? went down to goodfurn at bt timah s.c. and my father is finally happy with the bookshelf they sell there. they use teak veneer so it looks very nice and the door is teak with glass so feels sturdy too. one big burden lifted off my shoulders still dead-set on having a L-shaped kitchen, think will get an ID and leave the headache to him/her. bluberi, how's your ID so far? such a coincidence that both you and oldie is using someone from *****. where are they located? maybe i should pay them a visit too.
  11. my home rarely use air-con think current home max one year on 10 days nia so the only time air-con is on will be when it's super hot, then all 3 will be switched on thanks for the heads up guess that's a consideration for those buying air-con, only use one frequently or usually all on...
  12. you can try the few air-con shops at IMM got a system 3 at $1669 so system 2 should fit your budget the guy recommended LG, which according to the NEA site is the most energy efficient maybe you want to decide on the brand first then go down to ask the price also make sure that the price you pay includes all the necessary installation e.g. min class 1 insulation, min gr 23 copper piping, 16mm piping etc... got all these info from other thread in renotalk. do some search and you wlll know which shop to go
  13. then it will depend a lot on what is the carpentry works for btw, an ID just told me yesterday that doors are NOT made of solid ply coz the hinges cannot support. only the shelves are solid ply, the rest are just normal ply external also makes a difference in pricing veneer is more expensive than laminate get your ID to write down the specs of the material then just ask around for the exact same material, how much others charge.
  14. will be going down tomorrow and take photos of the various defects will post them here with the tiles
  15. got LG non-inverter system 3 at $1669 inclusive of gst and installation with class 0 insulation same shop quote ME starmex non-inverter system 3 at $1650 without gst but with installation the shop is best tech at IMM
  16. mbp is macbook pro, transcend is a brand of ram, just like hynix.
  17. my toilet and room door is on the same wall then the window is on the opposite door so left the two walls both got beams then can box up if not no space for the wardrobe really headache only my unit is the pink ones, all my neighbours have light beige my neighbour told us they only recently came down to replace the tiles didn't see any tiles in the HHS, so i assume they already removed the spare ones me going down this weekend with my family to check the defects esp hollow tiles coz it seems that the tiles are uneven still
  18. ram prices go up and down, a bit like stock market last year around sep, paid $222 for one stick of 1GB ram for my ibook and $150 for one stick of 1GB for mbp. self-installation only took something like 30sec -1min.
  19. can someone pm me the no. of kelvin please in the midst of looking for quotes tia
  20. guess if money is not an issue i'd go for it too but now the money is better used elsewhere however, they said that they can still install it even if window grilles are already up so next time when i have the money can consider now the cheapest quote for my L-shaped yard (around 5 panes) is $350 for aluminium casement. mintee - how big is your yard? as in the area to install the windows
  21. using transcend for my mbp and ibook so far so good the price diff bet SLS and apple dealer can be four times! ladyluck, they are both apple dealers. check out both and compare the free gifts before you commit... think epicentre is at the IT show, not so sure about ishop though. btw, office is at $99 at the show...
  22. hehe my balcony is about 3.1m didn't even dare ask about my yard... coz balcony can wait, but yard must do
  23. sorry i meant Student Teacher Edition i.e. STE... btw, ram upgrade for macbook can be done yourself just buy a ram with spec from the manual from Sim Lim Sq... it's so much cheaper than apple dealers...
  24. just got back from decorille. the quote for my balcony is $2200 !! it's a accurate one coz i brought my flr plan along... so guess not doing it afterall
  25. got to go down this weekend to finalise the list of defects coz monday was a little tired and had my exam yesterday so can't do much. this fri another paper so only can do it over the weekend... but a cursory glance shows that almost nothing is satisfactory!!! the window frames are all oxidised, the paint splatter all over the frames, the door knobs all turn green, the common toilet is SO dirty i didn't even dare give it a second look, the air-con ledge is filled with everything you can imagine - clothes, cig buds and even a tab of pills! argh! the MBR will have two wardrobes coz one is my dad's and the other my mum's they both have so much clothes that they need their own big wardrobe. both their wardrobes are 6ft wide and 6ft high coz they dun want to climb up and down to take things... then the doors and window took two walls, the remaining two walls have protruding pillars and overhead beams. it seems the only way is to put the bed right in the middle of the room not going to built any kerb for the washer coz my washer have 'legs' and dun think will be washing the yard too often being the fickle-minded old me, have decided to go for the franke acquario with full accessories coz managed to get it at $700 from a friend's friend. only $400 more for my dream sink, worth it to me. now the headache comes for the window grilles coz most say that they dun have it for grilles, but they have the design for gates so can ask the factory to custom make. thing is, some charge extra and some don't. then those who don't charge more expensive for other things. so it's like i under charge for some and over charge for others. now waiting for the quotes to slowly come in and make a comparison before i commit since i have all the time in the world whilst waiting for hdb to start the rectifications
