The current owner at my place is using downlights, not sure if I should keep them in the living room. I want to add ceiling fan there, am considering to use track lights on brick wall...BUT I'm not very confident to do light planning myself.

I already shortlisted a few con/ID based on tblogs here... Very tiring to go through so many people, I guess My key concern now is whether to get quotation based on only floor plan with measurements, or arrange on-site viewing, which might be of a hassle to owners who are staying there. Anyway, after I decide to use a particular contractor, do we sign the contract immediately? Need to pay the upfront amount immediately?

MrsLoo, thanks for your advice! The tricky thing is, my floor plan doesn't come with any measurements n I'm not sure if it is drawn to scale. For point 4 above, do you mean you invite contractors to go on-site after seller moved out and you got the keys? Or in the case before seller moves out, "If seller allows, maybe within a week, invite at 2 - 3 ID/Contractors to site."? Pai seh, just want to clarify. Thanks

Hi bros and sis, need some help here. I bought a resale unit and feeling kinda lost pertaining to the usual practice of getting reno quote. Owners of resale units out there, how do you get reno quotations, based on floor plan only or by asking contractors to take measurements at the unit? If you arranged with seller to allow few contractors to go take measurements, do you arrange within a say a few hours in a single day, then stagger the timing? Cos my colleague told me the industry is very competitive, it's not advisable to let them see each other, some who are not interested may anyhow quote. Usually how long will each contractor take? Any kind souls can advise on the above? Thanks so much!

Nice stuff you got from Ikea! Are you getting your own contractor to install for you, or are you paying Ikea to do it? The STOLMEN system looks good. Can buy extra poles from Ikea to add on? Is your WIW just this, or you will have some door/curtain? I'm keen in going jb to buy fans also. I heard shops there don't sell kdk fans in white or black colour. Is that true?

Sorry for the lack of updates. Been going around furniture shops to look for inspiration, but nothing remarkably striking so far. Having said that, bought my first piece of furniture - a vintage teak wood coffee table! I know it's a tad early to buy now, but seeing it is so beautiful and affordable, decided to just grab first. Cos once you missed a vintage item, you never know when a similar piece will come along. Also ordered two vintage thermo flasks from the US! Anyone with those old school cutlery or deco pieces that you intend to throw away, can consider donating them to me! Hehe.

How about putting a few simple shelves, then display some cooking related deco?

You should check out Second Charm also, they have sofas similar to those you saw at Room of Woods, some are vintage and restored, while some are reproduction pieces made from vintage teak. Where did you see the grey sofa with option for high back? How much is it? Is Room of Woods having sale to clear stock?
