    Shower area feature tile

I like this particular tile for shower area feature.
  2. I like the grey color patterned tiles - with marble effect. But appears slippery. My wifey likes a lot! Not sure if we can choose.
  3. Since this week, started receiving quotations from IDs/Contractors. Quite a bomb! Variance also quite huge. Minimum quote received is $40K. Max is $65K. Quote were excluding electrical, whitegoods, sanitary and kitchenware. If I include all these items, I am afraid, my reno budget will cross $75k. Now time for analysis of the quotes, cut down fancy items and choosing the right ID/Contractor at the right price. Phew!
  4. Looking nice. Can you share with me the parquet size? Is the width 2" or 2.5"? and also thickness?
  5. I am still in the process of shortlisting my Contractors/IDs.. Once the process is completed will share with you. In the meantime, read through the various posts and renovation t-blogs. You will find a plenty of info for you to choose contractors.
  6. Many thanks for the comprehensive comparison.. Hope your choice is still holding good.
  7. Me too.. But budget not so high.. and not so particular on self cleaning.. anyone who can provide guidance?
  8. Uploading photos (Thanks to a Renotalk friend's advise): OK, I must remember to do it this way : 1. Sign in 2. Go to Gallery (if unsure, go to T-blogs and go via Pinned How to post photos post 3. When in gallery, choose category on RHS 4. At bottom, can see "Choose photo" or something like that. Click it, will take you to your PC, choose yr photo folder 5. Select yr photo. It uploads. Done. 6. To load that photo into a post in an existing or new thread, click to open new post window 7. Go via another window (that's how I do it) to the gallery category where I uploaded that photo, select that photo 8. Click on Options (it's a black box) on RHS 9a. Choose and copy the Image Link code. 10a. Go to your posting window and select the Image icon (above the box where you write your stuff), and then Paste the code into the little box that appears. Your photo appears! I post this here for reference cause I always forget how to do it.

  10. Thanks friend for sharing. I have been breaking my head for last 2 weeks as to how to upload photos in Renotalk forum.
  11. Thanks OceanEleven for the detailed reply. We are shortlisting max 4-5 IDs to have detailed discussion. Initially knowing which ID's to meet is a big challenge as they all ask you to come down to meet them in their showroom. We don't have the luxury of time to visit 10-15 ID's. I wish to engage only those IDs who have shown interest in doing business with me. I asked the IDs who called me to simply email me; not detailed proposal matching exact proposal. I gave them a basic download of what I wanted including my floor plan (because that's what most people ask) and asked them to respond. Many didn't even bother send me an email. Is sending an email such a waste of time? I also sent few of them a reminders. Again no reply! Do you think I need to go back those who don't show interest in business? We also don't have time to meet all the IDs in-person and sit with each of them for 1 hour and explain. That's why I asked them for a first cut response for me to choose who to meet. I think sharing "real" experiences of home owners in this forum like Renotalk will help others who are trying to figure out where to start. I say "real" because I find some IDs and agents posing as homeowners recommending their firms in this forum.
  12. Thanks for the encouragement. I am close to finalizing the idea. Have shared my thoughts to few IDs - some raised eyebrows and others are receptive..
  13. I am trying to use flickr to post pictures.. there seems to be some problem. Any other option you are aware?
  14. My first appointment over last week. This weekend was hectic visting a few IDs and having discussions. Also went around town shopping for sanitary ware, cooker hobs and hoods, lightings etc etc. to get an idea of what's available in the market. Hopefully I will update soon on the findings..

While searching for some info on CASE and protecting from unscrupulous contractors, I stumbled upon this article on WHY Contractor Complaints are On the Rise in Singapore (And How to Protect Your Renovation): http://blog.moneysmart.sg/property/why-contractors-complaints-are-on-the-rise-in-singapore-and-how-to-protect-your-renovation/ This article appeared in moneysmart.sg on January 17, 2013. Hope this helps general public to know about the quantum of renovation contractor disputes and take necessary safeguards to protect themselves. After all it's your home - you want enjoy living in it. If things go wrong in the beginning itself, it is sure going to leave a sour taste.

  18. Some more info on importance of CASE Trust.. Some say it is not important; some say it is important. Sharing my thoughts on the same below: Case Trust is like an Insurance. It is for consumer protection. Similar to insurance, there is no immediate benefit because an ID is Case Trust accredited. But later for some reason, if the ID doesn't fulfill the promise or renovation contractor doesn't complete the works or does shoddy work, CASE will take up your case, do mediation with the ID and and fight for you. Since the ID is CASE trust registered, they have to play by the rules. If the ID is not CASE trust accredited they are not bound by CASE Trust mediation. The ID can refuse to participate in the mediation. In that scenario, only other option is you have to fight your own case by taking them to court / small claims tribunal, against a firm which has better resources. It is sure lose! You sure will benefit by not having to go to court or running to small claims tribunals for claiming back your due for the shoddy work / quality or incomplete works. I know friends where renovation went wrong and work stopped suddenly. ID's not responding; but already paid money. He went to CASE; case tried to mediate; but the ID refused because they are not case registered. Later he had to run from pillar to post to get due back. I am still in the process of choosing an ID for my reno. But haven't come across many with case trust accreditation. So was wondering why?
  19. My handover is scheduled for Sep 4th. Want to start work immediately. So I guess I follow your approach so that reno can start as soon as I collect the keys.

  21. Hi Guojiawen, Can you please share with us the choice of the Brandt cooker hob? We are thinking of getting Fujioh 3 burner - 1 inner burner and 2 outer burner. Did you check this out? Thanks
  22. How important is choosing a ID who is CASE TRUST accredited? When I checked with most IDs, they don't have CASE TRUST accreditation. In my opinion, in case of any disputes, if the ID is CASE accredited, then as a consumer we stand a better chance of getting it resolved amicably and better protection. Any views from friends out here?
