  1. Any idea what they may have on sale? Do they have this sale every year? So far I am very pleased with my Bosch dish-washer, been serving me well for nearly 7 years now.
  2. Business times, online subscription, $15 for 3 months, gets you the same news as the print edition. For international news, the net is far more diverse and informative than ST. Of course you dont have much choice for local news, but if something *really* important happens, you're bound to know about it from various sources even if you dont get the paper.
  3. Yah I guessed they hire some contractors but any experience with their service? If not good, then I'll skip them.
  4. Hey thanks I bookmarked them now. How's their service and sales staff? Friendly? Good service?
  5. Exactly! Very irritating design. Dunno whether there's anything inside those menus or just a place holder for something to come later. Anyway, that's the last I'll say about that poorly thought out site.
  6. Where do you get your book-cases? I'm looking for something solid, and with glass doors, not the IKEA stuff made of MDF, plywood or particle board. Something like this: Doesn't have to be high end rosewood or ornately carved or anything like that. It just has to be solid, well made and look decent.
  7. I've had good luck with Duro, good quality. I'm not so sure about yale. Two of the smaller locks I bought "locked up" and refused to close after roughly 5-6 months of operation. Dunno where it is made these days.. probably china by the looks of it.
  8. I dont have any newspapers straits times is junk, no point buying it. Even compared to something like bangkok post or the local indonesian newspapers, this paper is rubbish. 75% full of ads, they should be paying us to read. What a waste of paper and destruction of the environment. I stopped getting straits times in late 1998-1999.
  9. Maybe pricing mistake or dunno what, but the salesman said the sticker price is correct. They are greedy but I'm sure they are not that dumb.
  10. I got my Bosch long back at police cantonment complex in Eu Tong Sen street. They used to have a police welfare co-op society (polwel) where they sold this stuff. Dunno if still there. Best to avoid coxxxts, they have the highest prices I've seen.
  11. Thumb rule is to avoid SLS stores unless you know the guys well, there are too many scam shops and tourist trap types there. Even a reputed store like Al** photo has some nasty sales people who jack up prices, if you get the wrong salesman.
  12. When I shopped around for the LC7 LG hard panel 37" model, I was quoted 2399 by HN, 2499 by Best, and 3099 from courts near tampines ikea.. dunno what the heck. But I got the best deal from mega discount store at united square at novena, $2150 including wall mount bracket installation, stand, delivery and GST. I only paid $100 as deposit and will come by later to place the order and arrange delivery. My cousin got a plasma TV from them some yrs back when it was like $5-6K, good service.
  13. Don't waste your time with CASE unless you are sure you want to go to the small claims tribunal. CASE itself is quite useless from my experience with them, but it is a necessary step before you file a claim at small claims - they required proof from me that I had attempted to settle the dispute with the vendor/shop before I file a claim. As for Cxxxxs, I never shop there, ever. Their prices are ridiculous. Just last week I was looking around for a 37" TV, saw the LG LC7 series priced at 2399 at HN, and 2499 at best, but the same thing was 3099 at Cxxxxs. What the (#*&$*(& ?!?!
  14. Yeah no more felippes electronics goods for me. I have avoided them since the 90's. They do have some good stuff, my toaster has been working since 1999, no problem ever.
  15. I've had good experiences with LG, so I got the hard panel 37" LC7 model this time. I don't like plasma because of the reflective screen, it gets hotter than LCD, consumes more power, and weighs more. I simply cant use it because it will reflect too much window light where I put it in the living room.
  16. Q: Dishwasher: Is it worth it? A: Absolutely, no question about it. We have been using a Bosch since 2000/2001 and I wonder how we managed without it before that. It saves us at least an hour a day, and it cleans out even tough oil and grease stuff. A heavy duty full load at 65 degrees only consumes 21 litres of water, otherwise I use the 55 degrees cycle which takes 15 litres. I bet I will use more when washing manually. And you're right about second hand. I actually got one before this, and the stupid thing didn't work. Paid $50 to get a technician from the company and he said it's dead. Need to spend $200 to replace parts. Get a new one, specially with food related stuff. U never know what junk has been in a used one.
  17. Now that there's an LG promo till end aug, has anyone got LG to install the wall mount bracket for the LCD TV (it is included in the promo)? How is their service and workmanship? I'm considering whether to let them do it or to use a contractor.
  18. The cheap ones aren't durable, frankly the cheap ikea stuff is cr@p. Get the solid pine wood book cases from Ikea and they will last you. Look for the "markor" or "leksvik" brands. They are solid stained pine.
  19. Whatever you do, avoid the low end IKEA stuff made of particle board and MDF. They are junk. I bought a bookshelf and comp table, both started sagging in a few weeks, not months. I guess that's what you get when you go cheap. OTOH their solid wood furniture in the MARKOR and LEKSVIK series are made of solid pine and I really like them, they are very sturdy. Just make sure you get real solid wood, not the other junk they sell.
  20. Anyone? I'm looking for this for the kids room too.
  21. As the previous post mentions, the wood needs to be dried and treated properly before they sell it to you. Looks like they decided to cheap-out on this. It's the same with leather. My 15-year old wallet has been sitting in the cupboard for god knows how long, and it is clean and nice. I bought a watch with leather strap last year, and it has turned green now
  22. I went to their warehouse / factory outlet on Sat. The stuff they have there is ok quality, not top-end stuff, but probably value for money if you are on a tight budget. Some of their tables are very good though, nice finish etc. Wasn't too impressed with the sofas, and even less with their TV consoles. It's good if you're looking for dining tables.
  23. Dont these guys have a warehouse / factory outlet at kaki bukit somewhere ? Edit: [ replying to self ] :duh: re-read the thread.
  24. Went there a couple of times, since close to home. They had some decent offers on mattresses, but I didn't find any sofa/dining stuff worth buying. Their so called "promotion" prices were not any lower than market rates, you get the same rates if you walk in to a store at IMM. Cheaper still if you go to one of the kaki bukit or ubi warehouses.
  25. Marble is not hard like granite and is quite porous, i.e., if you spill coffee, curry sauce etc, it will get absorbed if not cleaned fast. If you have natural marble, then you need to ne extra careful. There are many shops that sell polyester coated marble tops. These are supposed to last about 10 years with light to moderate use without requiring polishing or re-coating. You can use a mild detergent to clean off coffee/etc stains. It's much easier to protect against staining with these coated tables. I remember some shops in the furniture mall (beach road) and IMM selling these coated tables.
