  1. so what did you use to disguise ur cable? i saw a thick white pipe? it's alright if you hv just the one power cable and maybe a TV antenna cable extending from the back of your TV, but my husband likes to plug in 100-1 things to our LCD so in the end, the stand proved more useful.
  2. why not use some fancy wallpaper, or decal-ise the feature wall
  3. we wall mounted at first, using the brackets that were given. but was quite a hassle to reach the ports at the bag to plug in PC etc. so when we moved, just decided to use the stand instead. works like a dream, and looks quite good also lah. if wall mount, best to hv feature wall then can hide the cables. if not, i find that it defeats the purpose..
  4. aiyah everyone waits for the bride..not the other way round. then after the dinner then u can stand and see them off or ang moh style, the bride and groom leave first.. you can take your wudhu before the make up starts, thats what i did for my wedding last time. as long as everybody who helps you with the make up etc are women. but must tahan lah. dont wait after everything done, you 'high tide'...
  5. well if you eat mcdonalds/kfc/pizza hut every day, surely will put on weight mah. if you cook your own meals, you have control over msg, salt, fat and portion sizes, as well as ensure a balanced meal with your carbs, proteins and greens (the few shreds of lettuce in Big mac doesn't count hor) i don't cook on weekdays because i get home late and on weekends, well, i'd rather spend time with my baby then cook but cooking definitely save more money UNLESS you eat at coffee shop where is it is about $5/meal. or you tar pao home, even cheaper coz drinks are free. lol. Unfortunately for me and DH we tend to end up at swensens, delifrance..for makan. so it's a lot pricier. on the rare occassions i cook, it's pasta all the way! or i buy the instant sauces from brahims or maggi, just add meat that kind. i stock up on frozen meat (chicken pieces, minced beef) and just make a quick run out to NTUC to buy some veges to fry in oyster sauce. i find buying chopped garlic to be more convenient for ppl like me..it lasts long and saves on prep time and is quite cheap too. my mum would blend onions and garlic and chili herself to keep for long-term. there is usually no or little wastage because my husband is quite efficient at clearing the plates but i'm not adverse to eating leftovers so if there is anything left it goes in the fridge for the next day.
  6. so THAT was what it was about..i received a $-8.50 bill in Jan..was wondering what that was about. but typical SGrean lah, if they take extra will complain everywhere, if they give more will just diam-diam don't say anything lol
  7. Rattan Pacific at Enterprise One has some nice furnishings made of rattan and wood..their beds are especially nice, wished i went there first not very cheap tho
  8. i'm guessing ur neighbour did it because ur unit was unoccupied...not because they had any ill intentions towards u.
  9. so jealous that u have the space to garden....i only have pots lol if u dont want to plant from seed, you can always buy instant trees from nurseries.
  10. yeh its possible that the kids might think it's a sweet or something or marbles. lol. non-toxic yup. i bought mine from IKEA, a small bag for a few bucks.
  11. those are expanded clay balls. you can grow plants in them, we had a project using them for orchids, the clay balls would hold water and allow aeration of the roots. it's also cleaner than using soil but i havent seen many plants grown in them. usually would put on the surface of the soil for decorative purposes, or in my case, i filled my large decorative pot with them first before putting in my potted plant to act as both a base (the big pot was quite deep) as well as allow for the roots to grow out of the original pot.
  12. thanks yoongf for the link. with foliage plants, quite hard to kill unless you totally neglect them. you can start with money plant or ficus elastica (IKEA has some nice big ones, can get pots also) and go from there. these plants require minimal maintenance (i water mine once a week only), just some plant food tablets and are non poisonous (in case you have kids/pets)
  13. i guess the officer who does the valuation and checking for seepage are different people. or maybe not, coz i thought i saw the same name on both the valuation report and the ceiling leak letter. correct me if i'm wrong but if the leakage is due to upstairs shoddy workmanship, then HDB won't step in and the two owners have to negotiate. if it's due to wear and tear, then the cost is split b/w the two units. you will only get the subsidy if you use the HDB contractor. if upstairs wants to use their own, then no subsidy + owners have to come to an agreement how much to pay. if i was you, i would 'urge' the sellers to quickly get this rectified before settling the sale.
  14. schfflera (sic) is also very nice, and easy to maintain. as are monstera, philodendron
  15. i did this for my resale flat. the old flooring was not very old but the tiles were just **** fugly. 6 mths on, no problems yet but we had to cut the door and the gate a little bit to run the laminate all the way to the doorstep (bad decision IMO, gets wet there when TC washes the corridor) but it does make it look a bit nicer. there really wouldnt be any need for a permit because there is no hacking involved
  16. plants dont normallly attract fruit flies or mozzies. you might get ants, and if you dont take good care of them, some whiteflies. if you want BIG ones, try ficus elastica, yellow cane palm, bamboo..
  17. when i bought this flat, for some reason, nobody looked up at the ceiling of the toilet. the tenants/seller also did not point this out to us so imagine our HORROR when we got the keys, went into the toilet then looked up...to see these massive stalactites growing out from the pipe above the sink. it was years worth of dripping and deposition. at first my ID said the pipe was leaking, and to call Town Council. TC sent their plumber down but said that if the pipe leaked it would normally be blackish crud and that leakage normally happens at the joints and not at the U-tube there. So I called HDB, officer came down, confirmed that it was seepage from upstairs due to wear-and-tear and we got round to fixing it. 50% subsidy after meeting MP, in the end each unit had to fork out $220. we appealed to the MP twice to waiver the payment as it was not our fault. As my mum put it, 'no chance to wear, tear already!' even the HDB officer who did the valuation did not notice/inform us about this. the ex-owner just said that when she got the flat 'it was like that already'. so in the end we had to foot the bill. i believe if it is not due to wear-and-tear then it is up to the upstairs and downstairs owners to fix it themselves. the problem is not hard to fix, if you like the flat, i don't see why you shouldnt go for it. but do try to get it fixed or at least come to an agreement about who will foot the cost of the repairs. you can even schedule the HDB officer/TC officer to come down and check, their response time quite fast one.
  18. my blk (Tampines Blk 864A) is 4 and 5 room flats, and my unit is a 4 rm corner unit.
  19. i thnik guardian has the 'no brand' types that are cheap. and got the branded ones that ard about 10-20$
  20. well, if they need to be lightweight, i guess they must be hollow so they may warp. but comforters out of the wash, after spin drying, are not likely to be that heavy until it will warp a metal pole. i've actually never seen the metal laundry pole before, i stick to the true and tested: the bamboo poles. they're not that heavy either.
  21. lakmy and i had the same ID from unimax, and our experience is quite different. i started my works in mid sept (i think) and can you believe it, he's only just FINALLY completed everything today. there was some very small items that he did not do, and it took him f-o-r-e-v-e-r to finish. everytime he would call, asking for the last 10%, and i'd tell him of the few outstandings, then he'll say ok, then he'll dissapear for a week or two, then ask for the payment again..we did this 'tango' about 3-4 times. towards the end he accused me of delaying the payment (who would pay when the work is not complete??). our ID started out good, but everything went sour when he screwed up the laying of the kitchen floor. then things pretty much went downhill when i decided to use my own electrician instead of his overpriced one. talk about sour grapes. it was as if suddenly he decided i wasn't worth it. during the process he lost important documents such as my floorplan and my choice of laminates for the kitchen cabinet...forcing me to drive down to their toa payoh office on a stormy evening with a 2 month old baby in tow on the eve of hari raya to look through the catalogue again. he was only punctual when it came to collecting money. count himself lucky that i was on leave during that period of time. anyways it's all over now, all i can say is, good riddance. while i think the company is ok, their workmanship is reasonable, i do think the attitudes of the ID can be very inconsistent, as you can see from lakmy's and my experience.
  22. if you can find them, and they still have money, and you remain persistent...sure. but if the shop closed, it's usually because of no money, so surely no refund.
  23. they hv the shelves type also, but they were not very cheap. vhive and another one at katong mall has lots of the shelves type also. i was looking for a shelf type too, and in the end got one from rattan pacific, made from bamboo.
  24. urm u noe if u get the thick curtains, it's not only going to block out the noise, but the light and ventilation as well? tanjong katong complex has some curtain shops, why not check them out?
