  1. I think i remember seeing something similar at Poh Joo, from the brand Rubine, but I'm not sure how much. Poh Joo is not bad. I went a 2 times to check prices before buying and they have been patient. Prices they charge are lower than what's listed on the price tag. http://www.rubine.com.sg/
  2. I guess you can try asking, no harm, but it wasn't for all brands that the SE said he could offer the trade-in price. i din get his name becos we did not buy from him at the Liang Court store, we only recce there and then went to buy from the IT show.. i can PM u the name of the SE who attended to us for LCD at the IT show, i think i have his card at home, and i happened to buy something from him at Sims Drive outlet 2 weeks ago as well. But note we did not negotiate the price of the LCD becos it was a UOB promo.
  3. that's bad. i hate situations like this, like wasting my trip down. last year my father traded in our 29" TV too, I can't remember the exact figure but it was definitely worth more than $20. when i went in Mar this yr to the Liang Court store, i asked abt LCD and told the SE i have nothing to trade in, but he still offered me the after-trade-in price
  4. Hi, anyone knows where I can buy wooden 米桶? Seems like most places only sell plastic ones, which I do not prefer. Thanks in advance!
  5. Hi vicenzo70, what is OPPO? give me? wah, you sure have faith in GAB and Everjoint Perhaps for bigger tv, the price quoted will vary more at diff places. For our 37" LCD bought at IT show, hubby and me are ok, as it was already below our budget and we are not very particular about the technical stuff...as long as our eyes deem fit can already. For fridge and washing machine, we also checked places like Kong Tai. For various models, audiohouse's price was about $10 difference or less, so we are ok with it. Hi h4happy, why no warranty? i thought warranty is not given by audiohouse, but the distributor of the brand, right? both my LCD and washing machine have warranty. i only got my tv delivered in early May, and washing machine delivered last week, not spoilt yet Hi fanguojun, i agree that it's the salesman. when i got my washing machine last week, it happened to be the same guy who served me at the IT show, and i am ok with him. Personally, I have no preference to go to Hong Liang. If i am at alexandra, i will go to Aik Leong. No offence to anyone, it's just a preference and I am not related to Audiohouse in anyway Was quite surprised to see more negative comments than positive ones on them. I always see them as 1 of those neighbourhood shops, just that they advertise more.
  6. hmm...my experiences at audiohouse was not bad actually.. 1st time, went to "look see look see" for LCD TV and fridge at Liang Court store, on the day of the IT show in March. They were having trade-in deals for the LCD TV. I was offered a price very close to the after trade-in price, though i was not trading in anything. In the end, I got my TV at the IT show promotion, but was also under Audiohouse. The fridge, when I told them I was quoted a lower price in a neighbourhood shop, they were able to match the price too. Last week, went to buy a washing machine. The price is close to what neighbourhood shop quoted, and they readily waived delivery charge for me, so I bought from them. At the end of the day, their prices are negotiable and competitive, the service is quite good, the sales people I encountered are not pushy, the delivery is punctual, so I have no problems with them.
  7. Just to update, the technician came down today and could not fix it. So they will do a 1-to-1 exchange for the hob.
  8. Hi CutePinkElephant, we also try not to use too many colours so that we don't waste paint and $. Hi Patsy_sg, you're right! And..different catalogues also showed the colours differently. I have 2 copies of the same Nippon catalogues, 1 looked more poorly printed than the other..and the same colours looked different! Fortunately the colours we chose were rather light, so the deviation did not have much effect. Another good thing is, after confirmation of colours with ICI through the colour consultation, they sent me small swatches (dun know what it is exactly called. it's a small square of the colour) of the colours we chose. These swatches are closer to the actual colour, not like what is in the catalogue, so that was helpful.
  9. Hi CutePinkElephant, these are the amount of paints we bought. - for ceiling (whole house excl household shelter): 2 x 5L cans, used about 1 3/4 cans for 2 coats - for living room: 1 x 1L (for a TV wall, used up about 3/4 for 3 coats) 1 x 1L (for 1 panel dining area wall, used 1/2 for 2 coats) 2 x 5L (for remaining living room walls, used about 1 1/2 can for 2-3 coats) - for bedrooms: 2 x 5L cans (same colour for all 3 bedrooms), used about 1 2/3 can for 2-3 coats most of the colours we chose are light colours, so must paint more coats then look nicer. Spent Abt $400 on paints, mostly used ICI Pentalite, except for 1L of ICI Dulux All and 2 cans of 5L Nippon Vinyl Silk. Hi GoalHome, we used wall putty to patch the walls. can get from those hdb paint shops or DIY shop, or ICI online store, about $3-4 a tub. We used that and then smoothen with sandpaper before painting. Hi mud3210, Wall sealer, from what I understand, is like a base coat. The paint seller told me usu new house need sealer. Mine is resale, so previous owner already painted before. So, instead of sealer, he told me to paint a few more coats. We used Vinyl Silk on our ceiling (incl false ceiling). Our contractor said it's wasteful, should have used Matex can already. You can try Nippon and ICI website, I looked up some painting tips from there. And personally I feel, don't save on brushes and rollers. Good brushes and rollers make a difference to us amateurs. Btw, just visited ICI website and their online store is now having 15% discount for paints...but I compared with my own records...their prices seem to have risen...
  10. hi! I've been getting a lot of useful information from this forum and hope to contribute by sharing my experience. Hubby and I painted our newly bought resale 4-rm flat. We only painted on Saturdays only, so we took a couple of weeks to complete. It was ok, as we were not really in a rush to move in. We patched and smoothened the walls before painting and came to know "every crack and hole" in the wall. It was VERY tiring (esp for the man, who would presumably do most of the ceiling), plus the fact that our unit is on the topmost floor, so ceiling is higher. Saved about $1K, which we used to buy more stuff, but the moment we finished the last panel of wall, the feeling and look on our faces was indescribable..hehe...mixed with satisfaction and relief. For buying the paints, we found that prices are quite controlled and HDB shops sometimes are more expensive! For Nippon, some colours are exclusive to shops like Home Fix and Self Fix and are not found in the main paint colour catalogs. Eventually, we used ICI online colour consultation and bought ICI paint for the walls. We realised we would have saved a little by ordering ICI paints over the ICI website, compared to what we bought from a shop Jln Bersah...and we wouldn't have to carry the heavy cans around, since delivery is free if you buy more than 20 litres of paint online. So, no harm checking it out if you are planning to DIY your painting! Was definitely a learning process and we got some tips and pointers here and there from paint sellers. Would DIY painting again in future if I have the time and energy!
  11. Mine is a resale unit and my 2nd appt was nearing end Feb. loan commencement date is 1 Mar, but they already started charging interest on 4 Feb and that was even before i got the keys! Was there something wrong?
  12. I'm using the P8.3VCGSS2.
  13. oh dear, now it's my turn to have this problem. Citygas turned on the gas supply last weekend. When we hold the knob down, the flame was big and strong. But when we let go, it was weak. Emailed APS yesterday morning before they opened, but no reply. Will call them today.
  14. hang chillis? This is interesting, the first time I heard of it, but can try, hehe. I use the Baygon thingy for mosquitos in the past too, worked very well. Ok, will try it out too. Thanks!
  15. I put a pail of water the other day, it took quite some time...and the flies did not "aim properly" and ended on the floor instead of in the water. And I do not want to put a pail of water in the middle of the room everyday. Perhaps I'll try the insect catcher. Thanks!
  16. Hi, whenever I on the lights at my new place at night, these flying insects which are attracted by light will come. There will be as much as 10-20 in my room. When I switch on all the lights in the living room, it's worse. After some time, like an hour or so, they stop flying and all stick on the walls or crawl on the floor. Anyone encounter the same? How do I prevent them from coming? It's rather irritating. I don't see the same thing happening at all the places I have lived before.
  17. Hi! i bought an Electrolux Engenio, $89 from Best Denki. Just use for normal vacuum, so far so good!
  18. Hi, i've just got a cuizino hob too, but i have not used it yet. when i try, i'll let you know. just want to ask you a question, did your contractor connect the gas pipe to the hob for you? my contractor says I should get Singapore Power to do it because they need to check for gas leak?? But i thot they (contractor) have to connect the pipe? SPower will only turn on the gas and check for leaks, they won't connect for you right? thanks!
  19. I have stubborn oil stains left by my previous owner in their kitchen cabinet too, sticky ones, like yours. I use Ka* Magi*clean. For more stubborn stains, spray the Magi*clean directly on to the stain and wipe hard after 30 seconds or so. For less stubborn ones, spray onto the cloth and wipe. I use it with a good 3M cloth and kept cleaning the same area repeatedly until it becomes white again. Works totally well for me! My husband and I rely on this a lot to clean our house as the previous owner didn't do a good job maintaining the cleanliness.
  20. Hi, When I attended a baking class, I met someone who bought a KA from US. The voltage is indeed different and cannot be used here. She told me she has to buy an additional something (i'm sorry I can't rem what it is called) to make it work with the voltage here. That something is not cheap, and she regretted buying it back from US. Perhaps will be better to buy when they have promotions here, save all the trouble.
  21. I bought my Kitchenaid mixer for $559. really happy!
