  1. Agree with asianms on the water stains... especially yours is a plain black table top... as for your sink & tap, can buy 3M S/S spray (available in cold storage or home-fix) to apply a protective coating on it, lesser water mark... actually water mark on S/S is unavoidable, have to live with it unless you wipe them dry after each use... or is it becos your sink is glossy surface instead of matt surface? which makes the water mark to be more obvious... maybe next time you can consider getting a granite sink instead, like what applefreak bought for her kitchen. BTW, I realised your black glossy floor tiles are using white grout lines... did you want it this way? Why not go for black grout lines? I personally feel that making the whole flooring black would be nicer.
  2. I paid $245K + $20K COV for my flat. The price that I paid is considered expensive simply becos all the 3-room flats in TPY were never sold beyond $200K before 2005... Price has increased so much during these few yrs A pity that you need to hack the terrazzo skirting for laminated flooring... I kind of like the way terrazzo skirting was done, in a curve shape... very easy to sweep & mop. Looks like a big overhaul for your new hse leh.
  3. But what about the terrazzo skirting? Can you keep it & overlay with laminated skirting? I kept the terrazzo flooring in my living room too... maintenance wise, it is easier than laminated flooring... I just sweep & mop every week... don't need to bother on water spillage or grout lines... old fashion? Never mind, I am not young too Same for me... I also paid a very high price for my 3-room flat in TPY... 10 mins walk to central/MRT/bus interchange.
  4. Oh no, all the pinewood furniture I bought from IKEA were assembled by my bf... and he is such a careless guy who often make mistakes... he assembled-dismantled-reassembled my bookshelves, shoe cabinet & arm chair at least once
  5. Spam chop chop Is your hse flooring Terrazzo? Do you intend to keep it?
  6. Heard that this Eumora facial bar is very exp, any lobang on shops selling it at cheaper price?
  7. I am using novita SS19 model... pretty good, though I am still learning how to avoid kana burn by the hot steam.
  8. You should be able to get back your deposit. I remember under consumer law, there is a 7-day cooling period for any products or services we buy. Check it out at Small Claim Tribunal.
  9. Application of reno permit is FOC. Check it out on HDB website yourself before you kana chop like a carrot by your contractor. Ask your contractor to bring you to some units that he is currently doing, look at the quality of his workmanship. To cut cost, you can do away with kitchen wall tiles, fridge base & w/m base. Wall tiles are just nice-to-have only, no value added. Buy those plastic cubes from NTUC to raise up your fridge & w/m, 1 cube costs you < $1. As for laminated flooring, by pass your contractor, go to the supplier directly. Try this company: Alex Aw at 97775055 (Inovar Laminated Flooring) http://www.inovarfloor.com His price is even lower than Supreme. You can buy floor plan from HDB, just drop by HDB Hub in TPY. Can't remember it costs $5 or $9. Not to appear like a carrot? No shortcut, simply read thru the postings in this forum. You can pick up plenty of knowledge from forumers who did their reno previously. I did so when I was renovating my flat early last yr. If you want another quote to compare, try this guy below. A few forumers used him & commented good about him. ID : Mr Yeak Basic Image & Design Pte Ltd Block 292,Yishun Street 22 #01-291,Singapore (760292) Tel : 9238-9340 BTW, I don't work for any of these companies.
  10. For the cement dust issue, there is nothing much you can do except to mop the floor more frequently during these few weeks. Also, open your windows wide when there is wind coming. The dust are in the air (@ your hse) which you just have to wait for them to settle down. I had the same problem as you when I moved into my current flat initially. Hahaha, humans are like that, married ones wish to have their bachelor status back, while singles hope to go for a married life
  11. Don't be scared lah, this is just a sign of natural incident. I also couldn't help to smile after looking at the pic of our merlion, OMG, half of its head is "bo tak" liao
  12. I think Supreme is asking $3.50psf for its AC3. $3.20psf looks good... just need to make sure the floorboards are really made in Europe.
  13. You can do anything as long as you don't get caught by HDB Your reno firm will apply the permit on your behalf, via a 3rd party HDB approved firm. If any disputes or illegal work arise, you being the flat owner, are liable for them, HDB will only go after you. Nevertheless, not worth to take the risk since they are so many HDB approved companies in the market.
  14. 1. Go for grossy kitchen floor tiles if you have no old folks living with you. It is highly unlikely that you will have pools of water on the kitchen floor. Matt floor tiles are so hard to maintain. 2. Tell your ID/contractor the exact location you want your toilet handspray to be installed, so that you don't need to bend your body down just to take that stupid handspray. 3. Tell your ID/contractor to lay your water pipes further away from the floor. Mine were just 3" high from the floor in the bathroom. They get wet everyday & become dirty easily.
  15. Where to buy the window handles? I don't know leh... I asked my reno contractor to buy & change some of the bad condition ones when he was still doing my reno work... During changing of handles, he told me these things cost 90cts from his supplier... but if we go to those Home-fix stores, they will selling around $1.20 each. Your reno shifu might have the lobang, ask him what price he can get for you. Windows without handles how to close them tight??
  16. I live on the 10th floor... Didn't enclose my rubbish chute with any cabinet... I also hate the idea of bending down when need to throw rubbish. My new rubbish chute is just a simple stainless steel cover... Have been living in the flat for 10 mths, no smell so far if the cover is shut... but sometimes when I open it to throw rubbish, I can smell a strong wind of rubbish smell... so I usually do it in a super-quick way within 3 secs
  17. Hi trees, normal table top is wooden cabinet with laminated finish... solid surface top is plastic/acrylic worktop with chemical treatment... you are true on diff grades, no joint line & more exp... You can also go for concrete support covered with tiles... another option is granite worktop, which is what I chose for my kitchen. It all depends on your cooking habit/style & preference. Still cannot decide?
  18. Congrats on your completed reno
  19. Homo tiles? Just replace those hollow tiles will do.
  20. Hi pinkpetter, I am using the same model of wardrobe that your sis is using, also bought from S & C. Does your sis encounter problem of doors retracting? Both of my wardrobe doors don't seem to remain shut totally & tend to retract an inch or 2 as time goes... I have to use tissue paper to lock the doors everyday
  21. It is true that Indian granite is more exp than China granite. Wah, the price has increased so much... when I renovated my flat early last yr, I paid $100pf for Indian granite... with good spots or not were of the same price.
  22. Hi, I used Indian granite, if I remembered correctly, the name is called "Blue Pearl". I suggest you start another thread on granite worktop if you want to ask abt user experience & choice of colour... this thread is titled as "solid surface", so those granite worktop owners probably won't come in to read... I was trying to find some info on solid surface for my friend, so happened to read up this article
  23. No need lah, but it would be good if your ID is located in the same area as yours, so that when you are not happy with his work, just walk over to his office & bang tables
  24. Yoh, apple mei mei, I think you are one of the exceptions Actually, aging can be a mind issue... my bf is no longer young yet he feels that he is still very fit & not old at all
