  1. Try this guy, ID : Mr Yeak Basic Image & Design Pte Ltd Block 292,Yishun Street 22 #01-291,Singapore (760292) Tel : 9238-9340 One of the forumer used him & commented that his workmanship is good & price is cheap.
  2. I am using granite for my worktop... find it very easy to maintain as long as I wipe it clean after each use... the pattern on my granite is those cloudy type... so stains & dirt are not easily noticeable. Was quoted $80per foot run for solid surface & $100 for granite initially, decided to top up a bit to granite as I have never used solid surface before, no experience on it... but my parent's flat has granite flooring, I knew how easy its maintenance is.
  3. This is the breakdown for my colleague's quote: Dismantle prayer cabinet in living hall $100 Dismantle kitchen cabinet $220 Haulage & derbris disposal $180 Oh yes, no 7% GST charge & pricing is pretty the same as Ho Bee... very competitive. My colleague just gotten married with a newly bought car... he told me he really has no $$ liao... he is not planning to stay in the resale flat for long... will sell it once he gotten a flat from HDB... so just want to do minor work lor... in the end his final bill would definitely be < $7K. Yap, if one can get those cleaners to do your job, definitely cheaper than getting contractor... diff labour charges mah
  4. What is the symptoms of aging? When you started to get annoyed by youngsters... you cannot tahan they always like to seat on the floor in a MRT train??? When you started to feel that turning to bed is more important than attending a late-nite-party... When you started to think abt your retirement... experts say that one should plan abt retirement at the age of 30...
  5. Spam chop Hm.. the current hse decor reminds me of my old family flat in tomato town many yrs ago... More pic pls
  6. Me?? No lah, I did my hse reno early last yr liao... Used a contractor well recommended in this forum. I gave your contractor's contact to my colleague who just gotten his resale hse keys... however, dismantle of cabinet, haulage & derbris disposal were not FOC for my colleague... he was quoted $500 for these work... maybe bcos he didn't want to do much & his total quotation was just $7K+... unlike your case, $27K+ with so many FOC items.
  7. Hi, welcome to reno forum Your planned work is rather straight forward, unless you have any house theme in mind ie. modern style;bali style, engage a contractor should be able to do the job. I suggest you look thru some of the reno work done in 3-room flats in our T-Blog... and if you feel that the contractors they engaged are reliable enough, ring them up for a discussion. While looking thru their blogs, you might even copy their ideas of doing the hse... this is the same as we buying hse reno magazine to read & copy ideas
  8. Casement window handles are very cheap, 90cents only, just ask your reno shifu to buy for you... as for the toilet seat cover, not ex too, can buy those plain white colour design from NTUC, you should replace the old one liao... a toilet seat cover can last for 10 yrs is more than enough lor
  9. I am using bamboo poles... have been using them since young when I was living with my parents... hence, I am well trained with strong arms But in my new place, I usually leave the poles on the ceiling hangar & simply open my utility room windows during weekends... so far pretty good... my clothes are dried within a day or 2...
  10. You might also want to consider going to Supreme for the laminated flooring job... going thru your contractor would mean that he might incorporate a commission for being the middleman. If you are not a loyal Supreme supporter, you can consider this brand Inovar... rondy used it & no complaint... both are made in M'sia but Inovar is cheaper than Supreme. http://www.inovafloor.com/
  11. Yup, agreed that some items are a bit overpriced. You should get a quote from rondy's contractor to compare, can find the contact in rondy's signature. BASIC IMAGE INTERIOR DESIGN Blk 292 Yishun Street 22 #01-291 Singapore 760292 Tel: 67520504 Fax: 67520477 Good luck with your selection
  12. No, I didn't. I should have been more careful & detailed in stating EVERYTHING what he should use. As my ceiling was painted in white, my logical thinking was I thought he would use the same range as my other coloured Easy-Wash paints. Patrick didn't ask me what paint brand to use for ceiling, & since I didn't specify what I wanted, he decided on my behalf to go for cheap & easy option. Same for my kitchen cabinet. I have a row of concrete support with frosted glass door aluminium frame storage cabinet, selection of the door handler slipped out of my mind as there were too many things to take note during reno. In the end, he gave me PLASTIC ugly door handlers which don't match with the whole design of my kitchen cabinet. It was too late to change after I saw them, unless he redo all the 6 doors. In fact, I did sound to him on my unhappiness, but he kept telling me cannot change liao. I didn't insist as I didn't want to spoil the relationship between us during reno. I believe he refused becos he didn't want to spend that kind of $$ to redo the work. It is not his mistake since I didn't tell him what I wanted... but I hope he could have respected me more by asking me what to use before he decided on my behalf. Sorry for my long-winded story
  13. Pentalite is easier to paint & cheaper too. I realised that although HB ordered those Easy-Wash paints I wanted for my walls, he used cheapo white paint to paint my ceiling... merely 4 mths after I moved into the hse, the paint on my kitchen ceiling started to crack... I was so mad with HB on this matter. You should insist HB to use the brand you have selected to paint the ceiling... our quotation has catered for better paint type, not those cheapo one.
  14. You are using HB painter? Shouldn't be an issue as I don't think HB will do such thing to shortchange you. When HB did my reno, several tins of diff colour paint were purchased & stored in my hse after I made my selection. During painting days, I could see that those paints were utilised slowly. When I went to check my hse during weekends, the paint uncle would come empty handed cos all his tools (brushes, thinner, paints) were in my hse. After the whole reno work is done, HB will leave some paint of each colour (in their original tin) for you... so that if you need to do further touch up, you can do so. If you are not using HB painter, then to ensure the painter is using the specific grade of paint you selected, just tell him to buy those paint & keep in your hse... as long as you can see the correct paint tins in your hse, you should be quite safe.
  15. Maybe you should consider granite top from china instead? As it is natural stone, be it from china or not doesn't make any diff. Just need to top up a bit for granite. BTW, did you manage to bring down your reno cost by cutting or delaying any work? Those checkboxes from just anthony are really nice, but price also very nice too... almost the same price as my IKEA bookshelf.
  16. My previous toilet bowl was the same condition as yours... but my reno contractor couldn't be bothered to fix it, he simply asked me to buy a new bowl so that he could earn my installation cost. Your reno shifu is better, he tries to save $$ for you & do foc work.
  17. Spam chop chop Agree with your comments... only those who ever stay alone will understand this feeling. I used to stay with my parents previously... but I bought my own flat last yr... ever since I am staying alone, my role has changed to a maid, do all the cooking & cleaning work myself... I hardly have time to do other things liao. But I don't eat junk food... still prefer to cook... want to treat myself nicer... I only live once hor... you should think this way & be nice to your stomach Be strong, don't feel sad for the past, just look ahead & hope for the best
  18. Agree with asianms, why change it if it isn't broken? Times are bad now. I was kind of forced to change mine becos my bf found it leaking water after each flush... my contractor said very expensive to fix the problem... might as well buy a new set... so I bought a new one. The old one was installed 5 yrs ago during upgrading time. Wah, increase the price value of the house?? Never heard of that... unless it is made of gold lah
  19. Avoid this shop unless it has something you really can't from elsewhere. Ever went there to check on ceiling fan pricing, more expensive than Chan Huat. Also read about a few complaints on this shop at Singapore Brides forum.
  20. Pinklady, the only person we talk to/deal with in Ho Bee is Patrick, & he is also the boss/director/owner. His wife doesn't interfere with pricing & quotation. asianms, actually Patrick speaks in a humble & friendly manner. But when comes to discount or price lowering, he is very firmed with no rooms for reduction. Pardon me if I sound very rude, but I have begun to feel that HB is more suitable for people with tons of $$ to throw in for reno & will not bother abt things like $2 or $3 tiles, 1 or 2 glass panels
  21. Using glue to stick the laminate onto the ground is old method & outdated liao... New technology is the click-on type. Yes, a layer of rubber material can be used to prevent noise, but it is optional... I didn't use that... After living in my flat for nearly a yr, the noise from my laminated flooring is almost unnoticeable. There are gaps in-between laminates, when weather gets hot, they will expand sideway… should not raise up like what you said.
  22. Well, that was what Patrick said to me BTW, honeygal, about your $2 wall tiles, do you know that the pricing you saw in those tile shops are b4 discount? Someone in this forum ever said that this pricing is a markup price to show walk-in house owners. The actual pricing given to IDs & contractors is at least 20% lower.
  23. Don't be sad, honeygal, you can always turn to us for 2nd opinion. I am also single who bought a 3-room recently. As the flat was purchased at a very high price, I didn't budget for anything expensive on reno & furniture fittings. I spent $13K just on reno. I didn't touch on all the wall tiles in toilet/bathroom/kitchen, mainly on kitchen flooring/cabinet. One thing about Ho Bee is, their price will only increase but not decrease. My package includes 2 glass panel for kitchen cabinet in the original quotation. Somehow down the road, only 1 glass panel was installed due to the small size & design theme of my cabinet. I asked Patrick if he would give me discount during final payment, he said no. He said be it 1 glass panel or everything glass panel, they are the same price. I wasn't quite happy after hearing that, how can the price for glass panel & wooden door be the same?
  24. I paid >$700 to Ho Bee for all this work... your ID is very good... or the cost is already hidden somewhere in your reno package liao Read thru your blog during CNY... like the green tiles in your kitchen & toilet... I like green color... the first time I came across this Inovar laminated flooring co... how do you find their products compare to other famous brand like Supreme & Kronotex? BTW, Basic Image doesn't seem to be a famous or popular ID firm in this forum... is your ID recommended by friends? The workmanship looks good from your pic.
  25. Me me Welcome to TPY... Spam chop chop
