gohyongkwang 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2008 This sounds like a stupid question, but what exactly is a dining chair? How is a dining chair different from "normal chairs"? In another word, what special design features or characteristics do a dining chair possess? I only notice that dining chairs have a tendency to have higher backs, some exceeding the head level. Ideally, a dining chair comes as a set with a dining table. It should be properly matched to the dining table, correct height, etc. Generally the main attribute of a dining chair is that it should be compact, no portrusions (eg no arms) so that it does not get in the way of other diners when people need to get in and out. It's normally straight back as people eat upright, not leaning back. High back is possible, but not necessary. Some may be foldable too, esp if the dining table itself is foldable. luanee 1 Report post Posted December 15, 2008 I think most important for a dining chair is that it must have seats that are easily cleaned as it is most vulnerable to food dropping on it. Hence pls avoid light-colored fabric seats. Imagine a curry stain on it! Best to get one with leather/pv/wood and dark colored seats.
