  1. i need to find someone to change my front gate and my front door handle+lock. any recommendations from anyone?
  2. Finally, my renovation was completed on Thursday . Now i left the major painting job to be done by me, HTB and my dad and of course cleaning. My HTB found scratches on our worktop in our kitchen. Really sad but there was nothing much we can do since it was left behind by the ex owner and we planned not to change it. Furthermore, it would be very hard to replace. We guessed it was probably scratched during the tiling process but no point pointing fingers at the contractor. No way he can find the same tile to replace it. I guess i would have to hunt for nice table runners or cloth to cover it. Oh i took a picture of the patched up holes in the tiles. I hope it is not too obvious. Our MBR floor was up and in good condition , though the old wood looks slight darker than the new ones. Our one and only aircon was up and running on thursday. Instead of having sofa, we decided to go for tatami mats which we think is more cooling and easy to maintain compared to leather. Though, i really really envy everyone's sofa in the t blog, too bad i dun have the money . Anyway, I love the grassy smell from the tatami, so it is still a good asset. I forgot to take a pic of it when we lay them out. Hope you guys can wait till the next update.
  3. Ours was overlaying on top of the old tiles. We were afraid that this will affect the old tiles and cause unevenness. Our contractor claimed that the replaced tiles will look different and might be uglier. It may not be worth it for ust 4 small holes. My HTB think it is not worth the risk as do my parents. I guess i have to live with it.
  4. the 4 holes is actually not tat bad, since they were hidden by the rod + i can hide them further using towels. the dents in the glass shelf is something i cannot accept.. actually the dents were caused by forcefully screwing down big headed screws that were oversize. i'll get a new piece no matter what.
  5. Today was a very very sad day. All the piping was up on friday. We went by today to check out our place. To our horror, our ikea stainless steel self in the common toilet was fixed WRONGLY !!! NOW WE HAD extra 4 HOLES IN THE COMMON TOILET WALL !!! We were thinking whether to change the tiles. Our contractor claimed that if we take the affected tiles down, it would affect the other tiles. They applied white cement on the holes and painted it white. My HTB was very very pissed off by it. However we did not want the other tiles to be affected and we were also worried it might look even uglier. So we decided to live with it, since this area will be covered by towels. (Definitely will ask for a discount on this. ) Frankly, i do not think that my contractor was good at installing bathroom appliances, the mirror in my common toilet was a bit off center not very align to the basin, but it was quite minor so i decided to let it go. They decided to install the bathroom accessories in the master bathroom today. Everything was going okay until the glass shelf which was to be installed beneath the mirror. The uncle installing it apparently drilled the left hole lower than the right and the glass shelf was crooked . MY POOR POOR TILE. Then he decided to drill the left side again and this time, it was slightly higher than the right. I WAS SERIOUS VERY PISSED OFF AND TIRED... Not only that, he also dented the holders while screwing them into the wall. I refused to accept this. I could close one eye for the not ideal straight balanced glass shelf but i cannot take the dents. Called the contractor and tell him to change, no way am i going to accept this. Furthermore, the plating on the tap that was installed in my master bathroom peeled off, and other tap apparently was delivered damaged. I dunno should i accept the holes in the tiles or should i change. What do you guys think?
  6. hey, i juz saw that you have the same basin (not the glass one) as me!!
  7. Thanks ! The cushion is between 33-35 dollars from Tangs. i think it is washable, but i recommend hand washing it though.

THANK YOU!
  9. yup, price is about there.maybe u can nego on the 13A x 2 to $55/pt, and the 13A X 1 to $45/pt as that is what is quoted to me.
  10. Hi nice layout ! I think the most impt is what you know want and your chemistry with your ID and lastly of course it has to be within your budget. Can't wait to see your house make over !
  11. Hi Mr Chong, Hope that you can give me some FS advice on my house layout. Step 1: Go to your main door, standing in-line with the door frame looking out, take a compass reading (use a good engineer compass). 0 deg N Take 3 steps back and take another reading. 0 deg N Step 2: Go to the side of your house with the most windows and take a reading. 180 deg S Step 3: Stand in the centre of your house and take another reading. 50 deg NE I forgot to take pics of my corridor. Basically, My main door is facing a wall and on the right is the HDB ledge and on my left is the common staircase. If you need the pics , i will post them later. Pic of my main window Pic of main door View outside the main living room window Looking at our layout, do you think there is anything that we need to change/shift/add on? Is the position of our bed favorable? There is a beam above the bed at that location, however, i would prefer the bed to be located there as it seems more balanced overall. Please advise me regarding this. I was wondering if the positions of the stove, fridge, washing machine and sink are good ? The stove and sink are in the existing locations, however, i think we can still move the fridge and washing machine. One last thing, can you give us a good date to hold our Chinese customary dinner? We are thinking about late next year around Oct, Nov or Dec 2009. Can you advise us on a good date around that time? Female: 24 nov 1983 Male: 29 May 1981 Thanks so much for your help.
  12. ur wall tiles and floor tiles is definitely too expensive... i done my kitchen+2 toilet wall tiles at 4.7k, 2 toilet floor tiles at 1.1k...how can your 1 toilet be so expensive? n mine is a 5rm (128 sq mt). my contractor charge me about $6.40 /ft, urs is about $9/ft?????
  13. my contractor hack down the door frames from day 1 when bi-folds were to be installed leh..dun understand why urs doesnt.should really fight for ur rights, get them to re-install the bi-folds and the hooks again, and to replace the drilled tiles...should not pay for sloppy works!
  14. Oh i need help!!! I hacked away the existing platform and now i realized that there is a beam above me at the location i want to place my bed. It was camouflaged by a false ceiling. We did not take down the false ceiling though. Can i still put the bed there, i heard that sleeping under a beam is really bad? How can i solve this problem, should i change the location of the bed to face the windows?
  15. were the tiles at ur previous home soaked in water? btw, i've checked the tiles, and found edges to sound hollow. contractor says cannot fill 100% cement when laying, so edges normally wld be hollow?
  16. Work has also started in my MBR toilet. Again white tile but this has matted surface with some design, my lousy hp cam is not really helping . so far this is the best shot. I will bring my cam down this weekend to get some decent pics to share here. So stay tune. I wonder is it weird to have a mix theme in the house. our living room and MBR will have an Asian/jap theme and our kitchen and toilets are really hmmmmmm hip and more modern ha. I really hope everything will go well and it will look like a home. Oh i went tangs and got these cushions we have been eyeing for a while. They are really comfortable , love them.
  17. Yeah, i agree, we are quite surprised that the work was carried out so fast and efficient. Though there were some unhappiness about how the work was carried out (My HTB's father quarreled with worker, contractor had to change worker and now apparently still angry and the anger is now directed at the both of us. Haiz Sainz.) Anyway, work still goes on. These are latest pictures. Our red tiles for the kitchen is up today. To me, there is really an explosion of colors grey, green, red and a bit of white ha. My HTB loves it. Here is my beautiful white tiles almost all up. They need to replace some pieces which i think is poorly done, before i think it is completed. This is the common toilet, today they start waterproofing and conceal piping for the washing machine water discharge outlet.
  18. my dad say need to soak tiles in water for 1 night before laying, but my contractor only splash a lot of water on the back of the tiles and left overnight. they kept quarreling over this, and everybody is not happy.. so do any of your contractors actually take a big big big large pail and soak tiles in it overnight?
  19. now to update day 3 of renovation. laying of wall tiles started...firstly they laid a layer of smelly greyish stuff on the wall.. den they start laying end of the day, almost finished walls!! their legs hands so fast leh... this is the toilet this is the kitchen, the largest piece of wall.
  20. Hello all We chose toilet stuffs already.. this is for the common toilet..quite cheap.. this is for the MBR toilet....so expensive...but we tot we should once in a while pamper ourselves a little.. haiz...in the end spent 1.5k on everything...wallet so painful!! We went over to ikea after that and spent another $451 on side tables + some needed items..
  21. bought mine in ubi some teak wholesale company..do a google.. i'll post a pic when i unwrap the thingy.
  22. hi i just realised that i got my stuffs in the same shops as you. in terms of cust service, i think both also not bad..went twice to tai yong, and were tended to by salesppl..quite knowledgeable as well.. pricing wise should be quite ok, but design wise i feel that a little outdated.
