I'm no supporter of this shop, just a neutral pov. I bought 2 WCs from them few months ago. Both were delivered as planned. 1 WC was accepted while I rejected the other WC due to prominent scratches. Informed the shop which promptly rescheduled the WC replacement. WC was redelivered as planned but due to OOS for the model (let's call it brand A) I wanted, they delivered an identical model from brand B that gets its WC from brand A . Accepted it since I could see no issues after visual inspection.Plumber couldn't fit the replacement WC due to insufficient space for the water pipe. Heritage put me in contact with brand B's salesguy whom I liaised with directly for the replacement from then on.Finally got another identical brand B model with sufficient space for water pipes. Main WC body installed. Found missing fittings when trying to fix the seat.Brand B salesguy attempted to blame it on the plumber's mishandling and tried to challenge my technical judgment on the fittings. Told him in no uncertain terms that he had to cough out the missing fittings which he eventually did. I would say the salesguy was still pretty helpful apart from his loose accusation. Whether the accusation is true is still not for him to verbalise it to the customer (me). Or maybe he was just hoping I would buckle and hopefully get away with it. Anyway, there is certainly backdoor politics between vendors and contractors and they need to know that customers definitely don't wish to be in the crossfire.Moving on, the problematic WC was installed and fully functional. However, the other WC started having some post-flush issues. Called Heritage and the repair guys arrived promptly as scheduled. They blamed it on incomplete installation by the plumber. Well, what's new! Whatever. Bottomline is issue was resolved with no further recurrences.Throughout this unnecessary mess, I would say Heritage did what they should be doing and promptly. Attitude wasn't 1st class but well acceptable. For the replacement WC, I accepted direct liaising with brand B salesguy because I could see no point communicating through a 3rd party as time would be lost with the risk of words lost in translation. Besides after going through a full renovation and experiencing the competencies of sales people, it's safe to say I prefer to liaise directly with the people who know what they are talking about. Saves me lots of headaches and heartaches. And yes, Heritage prices were very competitive and point of sales service was good though knowledge was so-so. Don't expect too much technical know-how from sales people anyway. Would I buy from them again? Yes but only if the price remains competitive.

Regarding the door stopper for your bomb shelter door, have you tested whether it is able to take the full force of the door swinging open? I have the same type of stopper for 1 of my washroom doors and it doesn't feel like it can withstand the full force of a moving heavy BS door. On a sidenote, I'm not sure if drilling on the frame of the BS door is allowed. Nothing more than curiosity for the last question.

You could just buy the main door from your vendor and purchase+install the digital lock from other reliable vendors. Best to buy a local set so that there is warranty. Imagine the hassle you'd have to go through if the parallel imported set malfunctions. Not worth the effort and extra cost just for the small savings and potential risk of installation going wrong. Depending on the type of digital lock you are looking at, it could cost up to $1k+ (with installation) for those with biometric functions. Of course it would be better to install digital lock immediately to save the hassle but since budget is tight, go with a normal lock for now and change to digital when your purse strings are looser.

I think there might be slight differences between those digital locks on qoo10 and those sold locally. You could try buying from qoo10 and requesting your ID/contractor to help install if they are confident else I think it's better to buy the lock and installation as a package. At least there's liability if the installation screws up somewhere. Self installation only recommended if you are really technically competent else you could mess up the main door. Digital lock local package might cost few hundred more but the convenience gained is priceless. The benefit of some items just can't be measured monetarily...these are intangible.

Marble Flooring Vs Homogenious Tiles
looneygas replied to anaidross's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
Just want to check if you were able to secure the laying cost of $4-6 psf? That was the approximate price range that the marble seller quoted too but I was never able to find that laying price outside. -

Water Sipped Through Tempered Glass Shower Screen
looneygas replied to crazytiger's topic in Plumbing & Electrical Works
My screen doesn't leak. However, I can draw a few possibilities based on the not very clear photo: The leak is through the fixed panel. I had this issue because the silicon wasn't applied properly but it was resolved after re-application. The leak is through the gap between the door and the fixed panel. If this is so, it could be due to the overlap between the door and fixed panel is too short. It could also be the silicon flap fixed at the end of the door is not functioning well. All these are based on the assumption that you did not spray water in the direction of the gap between the door and panel. -
Island, Bar Top Table - Quartz Or Solid Surface
looneygas replied to Cowboyaid's topic in Kitchen & Bathroom
If you have the budget, go for reputable quartz brands like Silestone and Caesarstone. Better quality and better designs. For island top, you have the option of choosing a design which has running and continuous patterns to bring out its beauty. Solid surface is also feasible but it scratches easily. Scratches are not a if but a when event. Just get a sample of solid surface and quartz and use your sharpest knife to do the scratch test. No point choosing beauty over functionality because when the beauty fades, you are only left with regrets. -

Usa Kitchen Faucet Thread Size Not Correctly?
looneygas replied to cclim11's topic in Plumbing & Electrical Works
Going by fluid mechanics, the adapter/reducer contributes very little to pressure loss. It is the elbows that cause significant pressure loss. I don't think my kitchen faucet is very much affected with adapter installed. -

Mr And Mrs Lee's Happy Home In The Making...
looneygas replied to mrslee07's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat
Aircon installation is 1 item during the reno that I will always want to be physically onsite. That's when the route planning is being discussed/done for the aircon piping. Same goes even when the fancoil unit is being installed. Different people interpret differently and have their own preferences on how it should be done. At the end of the day, the one using the aircon is the homeowner and we wouldn't want problems down the road. Whether it's redoing the piping during or post-reno, both are potentially destructive and time consuming jobs. So in your case, it's hard to side with 1 party because you will never know the actual exchange that had occurred. However, I have used GC before and I don't like their sales people attitude although the workmanship was decent back then. Well, they aren't the only shop selling aircons in SG so good riddance to them. -
Aliexpress has been good most of the time. However, there was just 1 time when an item never arrived even when the tracker duration had passed. Once that is passed, you cannot leave any reviews on the service/product and the money is released to the seller. To be fair, I had also forgotten about the max duration. And I had to hassle/harass that seller to send out that item which I only received after 3 months via a very unpleasant conversation. Btw the seller rated highly on reviews. Apart from that unpleasant encounter, the other purchases have been rather prompt and hassle free.

Not wild at all. My TV has always been in the common room and not living room. Creates a cosier atmosphere and frees up the living room for human interaction without distractions. No TV in mbr too for similar reasons. Don't be afraid to execute your ideas if you really think they are feasible. Even if it doesn't turn out the way it should, at least you know after trying rather than wonder and regretting

I'm sure Ikea ranks their sofas based on the model but I never bothered to ask them as I wasn't looking for a showpiece sofa then, only a makeshift one. Just a blessing that my makeshift sofa has survived 2 house moves very well! Serves its purpose very well as a room sofa now. After the ill-fated Klippan, I came up with my own ranking because I feel that the relevance of the sofa is based on comfort, material and durability. Ikea 2 seater sofas costing <400SGD are considered lower range. 400-1000SGD mid range and anything >1000SGD higher range. Note that although the price of the same model with different cushion covers material can vary a few hundreds. So there could be a model that costs <300SGD with material A but could be >300SGD using material B. I only developed for 2-seaters so you gota formulate your own categories for other sofa types. Anyway, just have a sit on the display sofas at Ikea, feel and stretch the different material, imagine how it would feel without aircon and also look out for the cleaning method (if it's fabric).
-
I got an Ikea Klippan sofa and it didn't last very long due to the crappy polyurethane foam which goes out of shape with frequent use. Following that, I chanced upon the Karlstad sofa at their As-Is section on an attractive discount. It was once a display set with minor defects that are barely visible anyway. So I bought it and the condition is still as pristine as when I got it 4 years ago. My conclusion is stay away from the low end Ikea sofas. Start from at least the mid range. Also if possible, go for covers that are machine washable else dry cleaning cost can be hefty.

My fire rated door was originally closing at a really fast pace, to the point that it slams into the smaller side door. That was my main issue with it. By trial and error, I managed to adjust the settings in the small box where the door mechanism is anchored to. It now closes at a much slower pace and also has a dampening effect as it is about to close. This gives me more than sufficient time to get my stuff in without having to worry about the door. Of course, I do have a manual door stopper to shove under if required but rarely used. You could try to adjust the closing rate like I did else just request your contractor to install a magnetic door stopper for you. Should be an easy job for him.

Critique My Floor Plan
looneygas replied to oohman's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
Initial impression matters in creating a positive mental mood. When you come in through the main door, the first sight that greets you is the visual nearness and closeup of your sofa and tv area. A glance to the right and the dining furniture is kind of in a line with your tv furniture. Together, they make up a psychological barrier. The space beyond them is therefore secondary. Hence, there will be a mental impression of crampness about your living room and likely the rest of the unit too. Btw ID/contractor is not always right. Logic and proper observation are more important skills to have during major renovation as you make the final decision. -
For the quoted price of the TV console/feature wall, you could customise an approx 7ft Burmese Teak TV console but with less storage. Possibly at least 8ft with Indon Teak. Why less storage? I'm assuming that the contract's TV console/feature wall is floor to ceiling storage design.

I have encountered crown rated sellers who don't live up to their ratings. Imo, seller ratings are secondary to buyer reviews and sales volume. If the latter 2 aspects are good, the item will typically not have major issues.

Interesting short journey so far! My opinion on your Rinnai inner flame hob. I totally disagree with your ID on tempered glass hobs. It might look just that bit sleeker but there are points to consider. A few considerations on tempered glass: can't take extreme heat and might crack if any boiling hot pot is placed directly onto it.can't take high impact hits too.scratches are permanent.this is only for the Rinnai tempered glass hob. Notice there's a rubber lining between the stainless steel strips and glass at the top and bottom of the hob? Rubber tends to disintegrate over time. It's a natural process but that process gets accelerated with heat, corrosive liquids and also physical impact like rubbing during cleanups. Even if it doesn't disintegrate, there's a fair chance that it could get torn accidentally during cooking/cleaning.Tempered glass hob can be used but you just have to be more careful during usage and maintenance. My opinion is that the stainless steel hob looks far better than tempered glass and the bonus is it's about half the price too. Anyway, the Scandinavian theme is all about simple clean lines (regardless of material) which the stainless steel version exhibits too. Btw I went through these considerations when choosing my hob too. Hope it helps
