  1. Nope. Don't need. But you can apply if you want. But would be messy if you wanna change your hob is the future. Got to scrap them all off before you can remove.
  2. Sure look like shabby work...

    Pd Door

OMG! SAHM did the right thing by making a police report! Bullies like the uncle should be taught a lesson soon... Anyway, my friend had a PD door installed at his kitchen entrance which for some weird reason, was quite narrow. The advantage of the PD door in my opinion, beside the non track, is the space saving. It allows you to fold and tuck the door away with mininal space required. Just my 5 cents worth : )
  4. Well, seems like your contractor is quite "unfriendly" and irresponsible. But from my experience and what i heard. Painting is done before the reno, then touch-up is done after the reno. Reason is that after reno, all your cupboards, wardrobe is in place, hence, it is firstly difficult to paint the corners, edges and not damaging your reno. Secondly, possible paint marks on your new reno. However, having said that, i do think it is still possible to paint after your reno. Just have to get a careful painter to do it i guess...
  5. I agreed with wolflet. Having a contract sign with at bind your contractor to what was agreed i.e how much for each portion of the work, what material to be used etc.. It's a bit weird that your contractor didn't even ask you for a up front fee. I paid 10% before my contractor started work too. They need money to buy material too mah... I think you should speak to your contractor about this. Unless, he is someone you know well i.e relative and you guys are based on mutual trust...
  6. Well, as long as you haven't pay him yet, you certainly have the right to reject him! Mustn't let the contractor take advantage of you. During my reno, my contractor got my wardrobe laminate wrong, i had him replace all of it at his own cost. Just don't be afraid or paiseh to tell him off if he's in the wrong!
  7. I'm using tiles at the moment. Clean wise not that difficult. Just use normal dish washing liquid will do. I did consider glass and stainless steel. But stainless steel is quite ex so i gave that up. Glass actually looks quite gd and there was a lot of colour and design to chose from compared to stainless steel. But i was afraid of accidentally breaking it. Else, you can consider like what the others had mentioned. Buying those plastic/aluminium sheet from Daiso etc and replacing them when required : )
  8. Blind is likely to be cheaper. But depends on your requirement. Curtains keeps light out better though higher grade blinds can do the job as well. IKEA have pretty cheap blinds : )
  9. plastic rack with multiple tiers seems like a good idea... Customised glass rack with doors can be done if you have the cash to spare...
  10. Yup. It's pretty common. You wouldn't want your table/furniture to be damaged during the reno right? Mine was installed without the table. What you need to know, however, is the location of the center of your table. So that the light will be right in the center of the table when your table is in. A bit of estimation i guess.
  11. Hup Soon Lee Glass Construction is quite reasonable. I paid $200 for 1.2m x 1.4m mirror. Just call them for a quote : ) PM me if you need the contact.
  12. I'm using that one but don't have that problem that mentioned. What i can suggest is that you turn on the cold water first then slowly turn it to the hot side till you get the water temp you required.
  13. Well bro, there's really a lot of info that you're asking for. You probably be able to find the info you need by searching through the forum. Off hand though, i can offer some recommendations. Lightings - lighting.com.sg Electronics - parisilk, HN, GC, Mega Store Bed/Sofa/Dining Table - Furniture Mall/Ikea/Hive/novena Sink/Hood/Hob - Everjoint/parisilk (call for quote on the model you want) You probably need to go walk around, do some research and shortlist items that you like and then call them up for quotes. Even HN and GC are ok to call up for quotes.
  14. Well, usually acid wash consist of using strong chemical solution to wash and clean your flooring. The chemical are able to remove stubborn stains better. The price is around $100-$150 so i think you can bargain with your contractor. I'm not sure where you can buy these acid/chemical though but a cheaper alternative would be to use bleach or soft scrub (for kitchen) on your ceramic tiles. For wooden flooring, i heard those car wash with wax is pretty good and can give them some shine.
  15. The following are my estimation based on my home reno 1. aluminium sliding window at the service yard - $380 - $450 2. 10mm tempered clear glass shower screen at the master bathroom - $400 3. shower kerbs at two bathrooms - $100/bathrm 4. Top hung sliding door (10mm tempered clear glass panel) at kitchen entrance - $400 5. Mirror at the dining area - $100-300 depending on size PM if you want my contractor contacts
  16. Hi all, you guys might wanna try calling Hup Soon Lee Construction for a quote. I was quoted $200 for a 1245 x 1443 mirror including delivery and installation.
  17. Remember to take some photos of the leak just in case. For future reference, you never know when you need it : )
  18. Hmm.. for top mount type like what the other bros said, the easier way is to get something of the same dimension or smaller to fit it in. (smaller your contractor still can cover the gaps but bigger will not be able to sit in). However, if you wanna change from oval to square, that would take a lot more work. You probably have to hack away the current basin support. I wanted to change my mbr basin to those double basin and was quoted $80-$100 for the hacking and $400-$450 for the new basin support and installation of the new basin.
  19. Hmm.... why would you need/want to install aircon in the toilet? Firstly, there's a lot of moisture in the toilet, not very good for the mechanical parts in the aircon. Secondly, if you use heater, not sure the steam entering the aircon unit is good either. In any case, the ducted type (ceiling mount) is actually better than wall mount. Don't worry about servicing since i don't think you'll be doing it yourself - leave it to the pro : ) Aircon company wise, gain city is indeed a good choice, however, do take note of the insulation they offer. The price usually only provides the basic insulation. You probably need to top up a bit more to get a better insulation (class 0 i think). Another company i would recommend is parasilk. They're an electronic company but they sell aircon as well. Just call them up and tell them the model and system you want for a quote. Service and price wise, they can match gain city too " )
  20. Hmm... from my home reno experience, the glass of that size would easily cost $600-$800. (The glass door (standard door size)to my kitchen cost $400). Hacking of wall + removal of debris + rework (can bargain for free) should roughly be ard $1.5k - $2k depending on the scale of the work involved. A thing to note when considering hacking any wall is the resale value of the house, that is, if you intend to sell it later on. If the hacking and reno is done tastefully, it might increase the value of the house. If, the new buyer appreciate it... However, most owner would prefer the house to be in original state so that they can design their own home etc. Just sharing my thoughts and experience. Hope it helps : )
  21. Nope. You can't hack that wall. But if you want an open concept kitchen, you can remove the wall perpendicular to it, though the effect is not as nice. A thing to note is that if you intend to sell your flat later on, hacking the walls might not be a good choice as buyers would rather the flat remains as "original" as possible so that they can create their home sweet home. Just my 5 cents worth : )
  22. Bro, can pm me the contacts too?
