  1. Hi, I need to customise some RCA cables as those that's available out there are just too long. I have plugs and the cables but I suck big time in soldering. Can someone pls point me to a shop that have soldering service? Or if some kind soul here can help, I will be more than appreciative. PM me if necessary. tks.
  2. BCA Legal Search click the abv link. since u r the owner, u don't need to get the required authorisation. if you haven't taken over ownership, u will need to produce the Option to Purchase form. they will reply u in a few days with the relavant microfilm serial numbers. follow the instructions on the e-mail. when u are at the BCA office, the staff will usually help u and advise u what slides are relavant. copy down the numbers and bring the film to the printing room, pay and u r done. my dad's place built in the 50s was available. so maybe u have a chance. good luck
  3. been using the 47 SL90 for the past 3 weeks. picture looks sharp. sound so so, but that's probably it's "enclosed" in a customised enclosure, so the fire-down speakers cannot bounce off a bigger area. if someone can help me. the CD manual not that helpful. there doesn't seem to have a RCA-type AV out. i intend to connect it to a old school vacuum tube amp. or is there a HDMI out....if there is, i can use a HDMI-RCA converter.
  4. samsung has more features and i think has some proprietary technology. LG has lesser. But cost wise LG is a lot cheaper than Samsung. Since the Samsung features are not crucial to me, I took a leap of faith and went with 47" LG SL90. so far so good.
  5. just had kdk v56vk installed in my living. not tested wind speed yet, but kdk fans hasn't disspointed me thus far.
  6. to the buyer, the contractual agreement is with the retailer (in this case, MA) and NOT with the supplier. it is the responsibility of the retailer to ensure the supplier gets the goods delivered on time. if the supplier over commits, the retailer has to pressure the supplier. how is the consumer to know which supplier the retailer gets the bed from. so while it may not be the fault of the retailer, he is the one that should be trying the solve the problem instead of pushing it to the supplier.
  7. basically, check the power (wattage) the induction cooker consumes, divide that by 230 volts, you get the amperes that u need. typically, HDB flats cannot tahan. Brandt is the only one that has the 2 zone cooker placed in the horizontal manner and consumes 3200 watts (i think). we almost went for that until the salesman selling induction or ceramic gave scary stories about maintenance. One of them mentioned a typical lifespan of a induction stove is just 6 to 7 years. in the end, settled for the rinnai ceran glass gas stove. induction cooks faster than gas stove, hence less consumption in the long run. Ceramic cooks about same time as gas stove but consumes more energy. Think of Ceramic like an electric stove. My facts may be wrong. i learnt all these from the salesmen.
  8. you may want to try shirley koh at 9670 5000. we got our curtains and roller blinds done up at 3k. this includes, 1 day/1 nite curtain for living sliding door, 1 roller for side window, 1 nite for dining sliding door, 1 venetian blind for maids room, 1 day/nite for master. 2 panels roller for master side, 5 panels roller for girl's room, 2 panel for elder room, 1 panel roller for attic study. before our 1st appt, she went down to do a site measurement first. when we first met, we were not sure of our budget and just chose whatever we liked which came to over 4k. we compared her quote against another supplier. the latter came in cheaper but with limited range for rollers, when i tried calling him to counter, first thing he said he was busy, driving, and cannot find new roller material range as i requested. then i called shirley and similarly, she was driving, but she managed to pull the car aside and spoke to me. told her my budget and she choose materials that suited our budget. in the end, although her quote was still higher, we went along with her. most important...she listened to our needs. she was able to coordinate with my contractor and carpenter. she went down to the site no less than 2 more times after we met for the 3rd time. she doesn't give empty promises, she already warned us the day curtain we chose may not be in time for cny. at least we are mentally prepared. (my usual disclaimer....don't flame me if u get a different threatment. just thinking i should share some good contacts)
  9. which 40" plasma/lcd will you buy? preferrably it should be slim. meant for masterbedroom. How's the Hitachi? Everjoint quoted something like $1800 (can't rememher as wasn't really keen back then). I already gotten the LG SL90 47, so not too keen to get another LG. Thanks in advance.
  10. I was once told (can't remember from where/who) if a fire at your home is caused by a electrical appliance that is not PSB approved, then your insurance company is not liable to pay u. Any insurance guru to verify this?
  11. no lah, they are closed till the 11th to mourn the passing of Mr GAB
  12. yeah... saw that in the ob section today. RIP. i was just about to call them to inquire how much is it for KDK fan. i need them quite urgently. i was quoted $180 for the ay11s at everjoint. i bought v56vk at Everjoint at $358 when i was placing my order for Pana 532 fridge. any other place i can get good quotes for KDK fans?
  13. was browsing at FC outlet at IFC today. manned by 2 China ladies. not that pushy, but seems to make some exxagerated claims like their leather is top grade, most lasting blah blah.... made in china, take 5 weeks at least.

  15. I think all of us that are shopping for furnishings are potential victims. As we are all excited about doing up our nest nicely, we tend to make rash decisions, not helped by the constant pushing of salesman. Not all salesman are bad, but it's better to go prepapred. For me, I try to do the following: - go to a big shop which carries a variety of models/brands under one roof. for beddings, i normally go to Robinsons. for electrical, I go to BD or HN. - it's more difficult for lightnings, toilet fittings and sofas. each shop has their unique brand and design. for these, my wife and i decide on a particular model or design and then go shopping. - once i know the pricing at the major retail outlets for a particular brand, model, that's where i start shopping at neighbourhood shops. this is where the danger starts. more often than not, a particular shop will start pushing you things that they want to move fast, either to clear old stocks or to get a higher comm for a particular brand. But remain focussed. Some of these advise are good, some, well.... If unsure, walk away and research again. - when placing order, i never pay the full amt upfront. 30-50% should be the norm. I read from somewhere, the deposit they take is the shop's cost of the goods u bought. - if the shop accepts credit card, a day or 2 before delivery, i go to the shop and pay the rest. ONLY if the shop is a reputable one. If it's those at expo, forget it....i will pay the rest when i see the goods delivered. despite all the abv checks list that i've sort of internalised over the years, my wife and i still can succumb to pushy salesman. recently being while shopping for dining chairs, the guy asked if we are keen to look at matteresses. even though we are not looking at beds, we thought...why not, no obligation what...just look see look see. that's where the sales guy got real pushy, in a friendly manner though. the brand was not familiar to me but he kept saying they are made to feel and look exactly like the real thing. from the sticker price of close to 3k, he offered me something closer to 1.5k. that's where my alarm bells started ringing. my wife though was already keen, and had to pull her back to earth. must say it's even from a quite reputable shop, listed parent company and we bought stuffs from them more than 6 years ago. at the end of the day, buyers' beware, do your research, don't be swayed
  16. Tks Voxy, i was at united sq mega and the salesman kept pushing me some older model Mitsubishi Folio. going to try other neighbourhood shops.
  17. ah, this Quicseal thing is what my contractor was trying to tell me he's using for our toilets.
  18. it will be more siao if a buyer buys at that asking price. seller can ask for any price. at the end of the day, if there's a willing buyer to take out the seller, the the price becomes another data point for URA. Open and free market at work...basic economics. And yes, supported by the influx of PRs
  19. hi voxy, did u buy this mobel? Panasonic 532 can u tell me where u got yours? BD having a so called promotion at 2999.
  20. once you have signed the OTP, you do not need the current owner's permission to buy a floor plan. Go to BCA's website and do the application. THey will then reply you once they have found the microfilms. Bring your OTP for them to verify you are the new owner. It's also good to have the floorplan to see if the current owners have made any non-approve changes to the house. But of course, anything within the house that is not load bearing and doesn't affect the intergrity of the structure is fine .... so don't go over zealous. It's a good practice to spend within your budget. But things like walls and tiles, once done is very inconvenient to rectify. So I don;t suggest you stinge on that. Fittings like hanging mirrors, taps and maybe (just maybe) even basins, you can go for cheaper ones. Good luck and have fun
  21. i concur with that. My current fridge is a Panasonic bottom freezer bought about 7 years ago. serviced once cos my maid blocked the cold air outlets, hence causing the insides to form ice. other than that, it has served me well and has been very very quiet. think it's made in malaysia. need to change when moving house. Eyeing the Pana inverter MIJ multi door. Best Denki having a promotion at $2999. very often, promoters will come and push their own brands. Fridge is old technology, so not too worried about reliability. as long as suit your budget, dimension and needs, go for it.
  22. realised there seem to be a increase of complaints from newly registered forummers. Should read such post with a grain of salt. Competition is keen out there. Best to do your own homework.
  23. hi, sorry to hear your plights. i hope my current reno will not cause the same problem to my new neighbours. they are nice people. just hope my contractor will be careful in his works.
  24. hmmm..encouraging replies. but yes, will look around. will also try calling that hotline and see if can see the real thing first.
