  1. Investments should always start YOUNG. Experience borns confidence. When one gets older, heart gets old, then comes high resistance to change, afraid of failures, and prefer to remain "as it is"..... Try different hobbies to make "heart" stays young. Besides building character, hobbies also widen the horizons. "Waste" time and money but.... Sound investments need some knowledge background of accounting, finance, econ, statistic, business law..... So far, have stepped into: IPOs Stock mkt(cash, no cpf) Foreign currency timed deposit Unit trusts(wife likes, I don't like) Different sorts of insurances(considered investment???) Properties (hdb, L99, FH) FDs, saving, bond..... Last but not least, raising 2 children, now age 16 & 14 liao. Pls share yr experience leh.
  2. I got 2 personal email accounts, 2 office email accounts, holding 2 mobile phones, got FB, skype, linkedin, msn, life very "messy". Always get confused with passwords, IDs....Tell you a true story happened on me on 17/10/2011, morning & afternoon. Morning went to UOB ATMs to withdraw $1500, machines not "cooperative", thought may be too early, machines no cash. Lunch time, went to same atms again, "same problem" happened! Asked UOB staff there why like that. I demostrated to them. You know what was the "problem" - I used the POSB card instead of the UOB card! The 2 cards' color/outlook almost the same! Very paiseh.
  3. Almost miss this, thank for seeing me "up". Houses(whether apartments or landed),sure have "missing corners", unless one is living in space without 4 walls, roof and floor. To put 9-grid, 12 grid or even 24-grid onto a floor plan, sure result in "missing corners" - so what's the big deal?? Comments on fl plan:(sorry to say, generally not so ideal) - Rm2, rm3, living hall windows subject to west evening sun. Meaning those walls will be "hot". - MBR window facing "very funny"- not in line with door - poor ventilation, but seem there is an "opening" to aircon ledge which may help a bit for air ventilation. - Windows/doors not in NS facing, air flow not ideal for the whole yr in location like singapore. Esp the "N" block by hall. - Hall/kitchen will be stuffy. - Anyway, ceiling fans/aircon can "help" some. I've explained b4 the wind direction patterns throughout the "4 seasons" in singapore. I play RC planes( incl thermal slope gliding)in open field and like fishing, so no choice I kena forced to study weather and tidal patterns.
  4. What are the differences between Magicians & Fsms?
  5. Read this, you will know, better read with patience which the present ppls lack: http://www.lyg819.com/books/lsy/1/晋·郭璞《葬书》考及白话解.htm My personal comments on "book of burial" -郭璞(317~419) - Rubbish + garbage. Concluded only after reading. - How does the place of bury for the dead "affect" the live ones? Should ask TKY who bring delegates to study "tombs". - Now the "Remain of the dead" is in a little container, stacked onto each other in a "cemented apartment" - Some "Remains" go into "water" becoming "food" for fishers, or "land"-fertiliser for the plants..... - Qi's concept not bad, still very "imaginative" and "generalise".
  6. Apply lacquer onto SS?? Without 3M adhesive spray? This is like killing a chick using a "bull knife". Won't last long. Lacquer won't stay on SS surface effectively without adhesis spray(as primer). Further more, lacquer get harden and crack easily. Apply autosol on "top surface" and " within the sink" ? Not lah, once SS sink is used constantly, no rust lah. However, the "underneath part" may be rusty which needs autosol. Apply "singal oil" on cloth and rub the underneath part enough liao.
  7. Tree with too many leaves bear no fruits.
  8. Where got roller coaster, all this while only low tide with wild waves hitting the roacks only lah. Stand on top of rock, when strong wave comes hit the rock, quickly grasp some "splash" to solve the thirst first.
  9. Hard to get ppl nowaday like you to interpret my "poem" so correctly, congratulation! You have won the 1st price! Slaves remained slaves because they are not aware they are slaves. Some kings do not aware they are kings yet prefer choose to be slaves.
  10. Some more: No one can persuade another to change. Each of us guards a gate of change that can only be opened from the inside. We cannot open the gate of another, either by argument or by emotional appeal. I can write above words so you can know my "standard" liao.
  11. I'm none of above but merely a copycat, not catwoman nor catman. I love reading history. The quote came from Frankl who was the only survivor during the DEAD CAMP.His dear ones all being tortured to death. One day he was fully naked, locked in a cell, "suddenly" he realised he has "freedom to response" to his environment. He was a "teacher" after the deadcamp. Frankl was just one of the many who have been able to develop the personal freedom in difficult circumstances. "I'm what i am today because of the choices I made yesterday."
  12. Children got ipod and ipad, wife got iphone. I receive ibill and therefore ipaid till idie.
  13. Chinese saying:" One kind of rice feeds hundred types of ppls". All these will invite "human disasters". Cause & effect. At comfort of oneself but expense of others....How would YOU react when you see ppl around u spending at yr expenses, and they themself live comfortably? Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny. Thought and destiny are related.
  14. You must be tired of living liao. Better read first, "prevention is better than cure".
  15. Cash is king, liabilities are slaves. All wish to be king, not slaves, unless the slaves want to remain as slaves.
  16. Here I come again on "small" & big" months in chinese calender. Rule: The day on which the new Moon occurs is the first day of the month. The length of the months are determined astronomically. Suppose a lunar month is 29.5days, and starts with a new Moon at 13h on May 1. The next new Moon then takes place at 1h on May31, so the month has 30 days. But if the new Moon occurred at 1h on May 1, then the next new Moon would be at 13h on May 30, so the new month would start one day earlier, and we would only get 29days in the month. A month with 29 days is called 小月, a month with 30 days is called 大月. From a naive point of view, we would expect them to more or less alternate, with occasionally two long months, lián dà(连大), in a row. This was the method until the start of the Táng(唐)dynasty in 619, when the mean Moon, píng shuò(平朔), was abandoned in favor of the true Moon, dìng shuò(定朔). Because of Kepler’s Second Law, the lunations will be longer in the winter and shorter in the summer(Month turns around the earth faster during summer than it does in winter!). It turns out that it is possible to have up to four big months or three small months in a row. An example of four big months as follow: New Moon Length 1990 Oct.1˜ 8 23h 36m 29d 17h 29m 1990 Nov.1˜ 7 17h 5m 29d 19h 17m 1990 Dec.1˜ 7 12h 22m 29d 19h 28m 1991 Jan.1˜ 6 7h 50m 29d 17h 42m For (Feb 03 2011–Jan 22 2012), 辛卯nian, remember, i mention the word "nian": 1-30days 2-29days 3-30days 4-29days 5-29days 6-30days 7-29days 8-29days 9-30days 10-29days 11-30days 12-29days Total = 353 days! Short of "11" days as compare to Gregorian calendar's 364days. Another thing worth to mention about WHERE to observe the new moon: Before 1929 the computations were based on the meridian in Beijing (116deg, 25min), but in 1928 China adopted a standard time zone based on 120deg East. Since 1949 the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing has been responsible for calendrical calculations in China. Now all of you see HOW these political decisions/changes affect the calender and therefere affect the DOB & therefore one's so called "Bazi". Zi Ping must be crying loud and try ways & means to stop all these changes for HIS THEORIES to be held true. (there were still many changes I did not mention here) Note: Gregorian calendar's 2012 will have "chinese leap month" in 21/4/2012 (四月初一), 21/5/2012 also (四月初一).
  17. 1. Not true. Monthly installment = monthly principal + monthly interest. VL=Monthly installment x approximately 23yr. The longer the loan tenure will hit the VL because of the monthly interest amount. 2. OA usage is very very limited, gov is smart. Depending on individual's comfort zone, 2yrs reserve should be quite ok. 3. True enough, but who wants to die young?
  18. Put 4 pillar issue aside first, I'll show u WHAT i'm talking about - take times, needs to draw some tables. Let me explain some basic stuff on the chinese calender which I believed most are not so aware of: A solar year (or tropical year) is the time from one spring equinox to the next. It is on average 365.2422 days. A lunar month(or synodic month) is the time from one new Moon to the next. It is on average 29.53 days. A lunar year consisting of 12 lunar months equals on the average 354.3671 days, which is about 11 days shorter than a solar year. This was a fundamental problem for the ancients. They tried to find a longer resonance cycle and discovered that 235 lunar months is almost the same as 19 tropical years. The difference is only about two hours. This is called the Metonic cycle after the Greek astronomer Meton who used it in 432 BCE, but it was known to the Babylonians by around 500 BCE and to the Chinese around 600 BCE. A lunar calendar ignores the Sun and the seasons but follows the Moon. The main example is the Muslim calendar. Since 12 lunar months is about 11 days shorter than the tropical year, the Islamic holidays regress through the seasons. Lunisolar calendars use lunar months to approximate the tropical year. Examples are the Jewish and Chinese calendars. Since 12 months are about 11 days shorter than the tropical year, a leap month (intercalary month) is inserted about every third year to keep the calendar in tune with the seasons. Notice that the Chinese calendar is not a lunar calendar! The Chinese name 阴阳历,which means lunisolar calendar. One method of inserting leap months is to follow nature. An aboriginal tribe in Taiwan would go out to sea with lanterns at the new Moon at the end of the 12th month. If the migrating flying fish appeared, there would be fish for New Year’s dinner. If not, they would wait one month. A more predictable method is to use the Metonic cycle. Since 235 = 29x12 + 7, it follows that we need to insert 7 leap months in each 19-years period. This is the method used in the Jewish calendar, and was used in the Chinese calendar before 104 BCE. It is important to understand that the Chinese calendar is a combination of two calendars, a solar calendar and a lunisolar calendar. The solar calendar starts at the December solstice and follows the 24 节气. This is traditionally called the farmer’s calendar (农历). The lunisolar calendar starts at Chinese New Year and consists of 12 or 13 months. This is what most people think of as the Chinese calendar, and the term farmer’s calendar has come to refer to the lunisolar calendar, even though it is not suitable for farmers. There are therefore two different years in the Chinese calendar, the suì(岁)and the nián(年). A suì(岁) is the solar year from one December solstice to the next. A nián(年)is the Chinese year from one Chinese New Year to the next. The length of a nián can be 353, 354 or 355 days in case of a normal year and 383, 384 or 385 days in case of a leap year. Just as we think of the Gregorian year as an approximation to the tropical year, most ppl think of the nián as an approximation to the suì. Will explain what/how make up of "small" and "big" months in chinese calender, in next post. Very mentally tired now liao.
  19. This is part and parcel of life, not uncommon. Always practicality and safety come hand in hand. Let me help yr imagination to run wild: If get injured, depend on seriousness, if minor, "fix the injury" on the spot, if serious get ambulance and rush to hospital. Then, follow by action of "compensation".
  20. Like function of stirer in cup of coffee, mix all soluble ingredients together, however, unsoluble ones still sink at bottom after each hard stir.
  21. With "heart", nothing is impossible!
  22. IC. Yr idea seems coincide with LT's opinions. Nevertheless, if can't get the ready-made, can always join this and make oil painting for your own, will keep it for life: http://www.myartspace.com.sg/index.html Note: I've kept 2 given paintings(customised, hand-made, one and the only one)of great sentimental value in store room for years liao. May be will put them in my coffin when i'm called home by the Lord.
