haha tell them that dark colour is good... practical and hide dirts~ hahaha oh... i'm using a stand-alone induction hob cos there is no piped gas to my block... you can read from my blog post here

yo! indeed, time flies~ your reno also started liao oh the area for dicing and food prep is the corner left of the sink, where the dish drainer is, and before the step-down to the hob area... i have approx. 60cm width of space there yup really glad that i insisted on amending the dry area. and now space is already tight, so i'm thinking of getting a separate table in the kitchen for these appliance... have been bugging hubby about this kekeke It's working v well so far. load wise, according to the shop owner, is more than sufficient for normal washing machine load. one thing to note is when you try to raise or lower the hanger, you have to keep the pull-string straight, else the movement won't be smooth and the pulley system will be worn off faster. the owner at the shop will explain and demo to you. Got it from Woei-Lee at IMM. will PM you the price and stuff LOL... must be really sian! esp when you already planned something there but the gas pipe is in the way~ really, sometimes i dun understand HDB's planning...

haha my teacher also stays in Tampines, though different part from yours... but also no gas pipe! *haiz* yea electricity is expensive man, but too late to change liao~ cos didn't make provision for gas connection and stuff. now i'm still happily cooking... just hope i won't when i receive my first, realistic utility bill next month............

Thanks thanks~! my portrait is slightly bigger - 20" x 24". but i guess should be fine ba~ haha my hubby is a bit skeptical cos our fren tried to use the 3M hook... in the end, it's not the hook that broke.. the paint gave way and peeled off causing the hook to drop but i guess paint peeling off is better than having a hole in the wall~

The Hob Story - continued okie, back to selection of hob... due to the 30 Amp mains limitation, i can't use most of the induction hobs available in the market. at first we consider this model of Taiyo induction hob that can be used on normal 13A socket: but after i found out the price..... with same amount of $$, i can buy 12 of the normal, single stand-alone induction hobs. Decision was quickly made to buy that normal, uninteresting looking stand-alone hob - Pros: no need to cut hole on granite topif spoilt, just throw away and buy new one with no heart pain - electronic appliances don't last nowadays.portable - can bring out to dining room for steamboat, anytime. Cons: cable management - still dunno what to do with the cable. worse when i have 2 of this induction hobs in future.cannot share cooking ware with microwave oven, e.g. corning ceramic wares. have used this induction hob for 2+ months and loving it! but if you're used to the normal gas hob, will need some time to get used to it cos induction hob heats things up very fast - REAL FAST.

Kitchen continued... Taiyo Induction Hob and Ikea Dish Drainer: The Hob Story Copied this idea from my teacher - she started using this type of stand-alone induction hob since a few years back when she got tired of changing gas cylinder At first, like most pple, my first option was to go for city gas. while i was dreaming of cooking nice stir-fry dishes with lots of "wok-hei" on a nice, slim, built-in glass hob, reality struck..... Called SP service: Me: hello, I'd like to check if my home has any piped gas. SP: ok, your postal code please? (Short pause) SP: sorry, i'm afraid your area doesn't have piped gas... Me: huh??? Are you sure? Jurong leh... SP: Yes, in fact, that whole part of Jurong doesn't have piped gas. Me: What??? (calming down) erm, any plans to install gas pipe to this area in future? SP: Nope, unless they tear the whole block down........... .......... of course, i know i still can have my nice, slim, built-in glass hob if i go for cylinder gas. but really dun like the idea of having that bulky tank taking up my precious cabinet space. Also feel a bit unsafe - after all they are compressed LNG - more dangerous than piped gas. (although the chemical and gas i'm exposed to at work is probably much more than home gas cylinder... haha ) told my parents about it and they were shocked. They said how can my 26 yr-old HDB has no gas pipe while my uncle's 41 yr-old HDB has... well, i guess only SP can answer this question my hubby said, maybe this was what happened 26 yrs ago: back in 1984.............. HDB: we finished building the blocks liao. SP: what?? why so fast? we haven't laid the gas pipe yet!! how come you never inform us earlier? ..................................... later we found that our cousin's place - a condo TOP in 2001 - also dun have piped gas... must use gas cylinder Noob Lesson 4: whether your house have gas pipe or not has no correlation with the age of flat. Call SP to ask before you make any purchase~

if i remember correctly, eligibility for grant is assessed during your 1st appointment. if your wife gets a job before 1st appointment, then no grant if combined income >8k... doesn't matter if she gets the job one month or two months before 1st appointment. you can call HDB hotline and ask them directly. i got similar question last time and they could give me an answer immediately... if the amount exceeded 8k is small, you can still try to appeal but do take note that appeal process can drag for quite long..
-
LOL... have you bought your mops? btw wanna ask you... you used to use those 3M adhesive strips to put up the wedding portrait on the wall, rite? how big is your portrait? wanna see if i can use the 3M strips too... hee hee thanks
-
haha the explanation is... our neigbhouring block will only be wired up in 2012. since we are writing in to appeal for free installation, we can't complain much, rite?
-
haha this was a self-created laundry space... it's part of our kitchen la our flat doesn't come with any service yard...

Ariston Storage Heater Vs Joven Storage Heater
marshmallow replied to donut88's topic in Electronics & Electricals
i also didn't think about that at first... just so happened that i chanced upon the HDB guidelines the day before i went heater shopping. if i didn't read, i'd have just gone for a Joven one without thinking/asking. How old is your flat? if you flat is already those with 40 amp mains, not an issue at all and, 1.5kW will take almost double the time to heat the water up... -

thanks for the head up... heard about this place many times but never know where is it... hahaha shall go there to take a look too~ -
just got mine installed last week... if they agreed on your appeal for the waiver, they will check a box "fee waived for 1st installation" on the receipt and they won't bill you later they told us they will come 2 yrs after we wrote in, end up they came within 3 months if you dun plan to hide the trunking in the false ceiling, then can afford to wait

yup Pax is not cheap, but it's good for those who know what they want cos it's very flexible in customising the compartments you may want to do site survey first... cos plans may change after site survey... for example, in my case, at first we planned a 2.5m long wardrobe. after site survey, we found that it cannot be done...

Ariston Storage Heater Vs Joven Storage Heater
marshmallow replied to donut88's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Just wondering... Under HDB rules, it says that for flats provided with 30 Amps main switch, consumption of appliance should not exceed 1.5 kw for storage water heater. So when i was shopping for a storage heater, the shop owner told me standard models for Joven are all 3kw. 1.5kw models are optional and they don't carry that. end up getting a Ariston one since the Ariston at my previous home has served us well for 13 yrs. Would like to know where to get the 1.5kW version of Joven storage heater...? thanks -

Baking Gurus - Bake With Microwave/convection Oven
marshmallow replied to enrisa's topic in Electronics & Electricals
i'm using a microwave + convection + steam oven from panasonic. have been using foil while baking and grilling things with no problem. in fact, the grilling rack that comes with the oven is made of metal... like what the samsung salesman says... under convection function, it should be ok. -
yea read from your blog.... really have bad luck with tiles siah~!
-
oops... sorry! should have point you to the correct page haha thanks~ you'll get to enjoy your granite top soon too~ yay

If need to do electrical work, probably have to do before false ceiling so can hide some wires/trunking in the false ceiling?
