  1. Both LED and PLC are rated at different lumen output, so it is only fair if downlights of the same class are compared against each other. Generally speaking, the brightness of LED downlight is equivalent to PLC 3X or 4X of its energy consumption. A 7watt LED downlight should generate equivalent brightness as that of a 21 - 28 watt PLC downlight. Obviously a 2x 26watt PLC is much brighter than a 7watt or 9 watt downlight. PLC downlights are very bright when they are new. However, remember that the brightness of PLC depreciates much more rapidly than that of LED. For example, after 1 year of usage, PLC lumen output might drop 15% whereas a high quality LED downlight only experiences 2-3% drop. In the long run, LED downlights are able to maintain their brightness much more consistently than PLC in its class. 2-3 years down the road, the PLC downlight will be dim, flickering or even a spoonful of dead bug behind the glass, but its LED counterparts are still shining at 90% of its original brightness. Of course, PLC is still an economical and reliable lightsource, you just have to replace it a bit more often when the bulbs start to age.
  2. Hi, Hock Gin, I understand your frustration when it comes to choose LED lighting which is new to many people. However it is important to distinguish between ascertainable facts and fallacious claims before drawing conclusion on the subject. Many products are designed to last – TV, car, laptop computer, refrigerator etc., but the majority of them come with 1 – 2 years of warranty. The purpose of warranty is to ensure the user a reasonable period of trouble-free utilization of the product for the user’s investment rather than lifelong coverage of the total product lifespan. iPhone is made in China, HTC is made in Taiwan, most of the computers are either made in China or Taiwan. Philips Master LED bulbs are also made in China. Somehow we are yet to witness 30% failure rate among these products in the first 6 -12 months. The quality of a product is a result of stringent quality control throughout the manufacturing process, high requirement on the grade of raw components and sound engineering design. With these elements in place, high quality products can be made anywhere in the world. Electrical consumption does jump as long as an appliance is switched on. LED lighting is labeled energy saving, not energy zero. The difference between conventional light and Led lighting is that which makes the utility bill jump less? Nothing is more convincing than scientifically measured data, eg. LED bulb consumes 7watt as measured by a powermeter whereas a PLC consumes 28watt. Which saves more electricity? Needless to mention fluorescent based lightsource loses 3 hours of lifespan upon every on-off cycle. Electricians are light installer who might not know the true knowledge of this new generation of lightsource. If you are keen to know more about LED lighting, our specialists are here to help you. The best way to find out the truth is to come to our office and check out the LED products yourself. We have customers who have been using LED lights for 2 years and the lights they bought are still shining as bright as new. Feel free to drop by and we will be glad to share our experience and ideas with you.

  6. It is not easy if your rooms do not enjoy adequate natural lighting in the absence of false ceiling and L-box as many light fittings are recess mounted. Consider large size pendant light or ceiling light. Make sure they are big so that there is sufficient light emitting surface for the rooms. If the walls appear too blank and dark, you can consider adding track light and nice table lamps to illuminate and highlight certain areas in the room, otherwise ceiling/pendant light alone might make the rooms look dull and flat.
  7. I have visited many cutomers' reno sites. Full false ceiling offers a flat and clean ceiling surface which is very visually pleasing. If you have low ceiling height, opt for L-box instead of full false ceiling. Limited height compresses the space tremendously. There are several remedies for this problem: 1. Choose a lighter colour for the ceiling and surrounding wall 2. Avoid pendant light or ceiling fan 3. Install a narrow L-box to minimize low ceiling area around the perimeter. 4. Install cove light to illuminate the ceiling - large bright surface and transition of light give a perception of larger space and elevating ceiling 5. Use spotlight on the L-box to create visual highlight to divert viewer's attention to other features in the room. The light and shadow effect of spotlight also helps to enhance depth and space of the room.
  8. From an aesthetic point of view, cove light is an excellent choice to enrich the room ambiance with layers of lighting and colour. You will be surprised how much illumination cove light can provide.
  9. Hi, Grandreno, MR16 spotlight and square downlight have different optics and beam angles, each designed to create its own distinctive lighting effect. Both types are suitable options depending on your lighting preference. For most small to medium size rooms with ceiling lighting or cove light, MR16 spotlight provides adequate coverage and create contrasting and dramatic lighting effect to enhance features in your room. For the square downlight that has a beam angle of min. 120deg, it illuminates a larger area but makes the space look more flat and dull at the same time. If you have a huge room and do not intend to install too many lights, consider downlights with wide beam angle. Generally, lights run on external power supply last longer than those with inbuilt power supply such as GU10 and E27 base. Hope this info helps.
  10. hi, Evo5555,

Twin LED set costs S$76 per set.

Thanks. Please feel free to contact me.

  12. I have personally carried out quite a number of home reno using LED covelight with very good result. LED covelight consumes 50% less energy than T5 and last 3 times longer. The key to a successful implementation is to install and position LED lighting in the proper way. Electricians usually casually stick the LED light in the cove without adjusting for optimal dispersion pattern and sometimes inferior power supply is used which compromises the reliability of the light. T5 is still a good option for covelight, but LED is worth considering as well if the right light is installed by the right people.
  13. LED covelight for 120ft of ceiling costs around S$1800. Brightness is comparable to T5 and they literally last forever at 50% energy saving in comparison to T5. You can remove them and re-install at a new location even you move house. If you are using CFL square shaped downlight, you can carry on using the existing lamps as they are still a cost effective lighting option. The cost of replacing them would be around S$70-80 each. However if your downlight is MR16 halogen spotlight, it is worth investing in high quality MR16 LED spotlight. You get to enjoy 80~90% energy saving and almost negligible heat. Furthermore, you can keep your existing fixture and replace the bulb and ballast only which cost much less than square downlight.
  14. LED is a energy saving new light source with much longer lifespan than conventional lighting. LED lighting brings the benefit of 50~80% energy saving and enormous reduction in heat generation. http://eartheasy.com/live_energyeff_lighting.htm
  15. covelight is installed in the false ceiling and provides illumination by reflectance from the ceiling. downlight refers to the group of lighting that is installed in the false ceiling or surface-mounted on the ceiling and emit its light downwards.
  16. in fact, it depends on how much you'd like to bring out the effort you put into the interior design and renovation. Lighting plays a vital part in revealing the texture and ambiance of the space. Investing a few hundreds more on lighting will make a lot of difference. it takes a lot more work to add infrastructure such as lighting after the initial renovation work. My advise for lighting budget is S$2k and seek advise from ID and lighting specialist to help you on the lighting design.
  17. Uris, If you choose to install surface mount LED lamp in your room without false ceiling, very likely it is going to be a big size ceiling light with LED globe shape bulb installed inside. Ring shape hamburger LED lamps are still not bright enough due to heat dissipation issue. You can consider E27 LED bulb or LED fluorescent tube for your room. These products are able to provide equivalent brightness as conventional lighting.
  18. for such case, it is recommended to add a ceiling light in the middle of the living room for more illumination as well as enhancement of lighting aethetic.
  19. Hi, Aerial, If your budget allows, you might want to consider using LED lighting for some of the heavily utilized locations. I provide lighting consultation as well. You can check out www.inleds.com for more information or contact me directly.
  20. Generally speaking, if there are ceiling lights or fan lights installed, you can choose to install downlight without covelight as the ceiling light/fan light already provide enough lighting balance at the ceiling area. Else you might end with a huge void of dark area at the center of the room.
  21. For those who need advise on lighting design for your new home, inLEDs provides lighting consultation as well as a variety of quality LED lighting products.
  22. sorry for the caveman illustration. Basically it is just a bult box above the curtain that houses the light, the light can be either cornice light or shining down on the curtain or both.
  23. aluminium is better. ferrous material is too heavy for the false ceiling and might rust in the long run.
  24. are people looking for square downlight or spotlight?
