  1. mistake in my previous post... $165 is price only for main gate and main door locks...
  2. hi jenrocks! thank you! hmm, think i can stretch my viewing distance to abt 2.5 m... so still may want to get the 42" hitachi plasma... the price diff between 37" plasma and 42" plasma only $100-$200, might as well go for the 42" plasma one... somemore hitachi one is made in japan and 1024*1080 resolution...
  3. how abt another bulk purchase item?? the 1-key-3-lock system... 1 key to open main door, main gate and letterbox... the gate padlock is fixed onto the gate: alternative system using the normal padlock with a padlock holder: one forumer can get the padlock fixed onto gate one for only $165... http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...mp;#entry211133
  4. hi zacey! can PM me the contacts to get this 1-key system for $165? thanks! i saw on Duro's website this 1-key-3-lock system costs $228 if the padlock is those fixed onto the gate... for the non-fixed padlock is $148... $165 is a good price!
  5. for pple getting aircon, please take note of the aircon ledge's window dimension... the compressor dimension must not exceed the window opening, otherwise the aircon installer would not be able to transport the compressor thru' the window to the aircon ledge! Some of the bigger capacity inverter aircons are already too large for the window.... dun understand why hdb put such small window there... put a limit to our choice of aircon
  6. usually washer-cum-dryer has quite low drying capacity like 3 kg only... if washing a 6 kg load, then have to split the load into two batches for drying.. !!
  7. the cost for drying 6kg dry weight of clothes: electric dryer about $1.20. gas dryer, abt $0.80 including both gas for the heat and electricity for turning the drum. info from citigas showroom at somerset...
  8. there are some bad reviews of AllBest in renotalk leh...
  9. anyone getting the citigas clothes dryer?? i think i'll have to remove the holder to make room for the dryer...
  10. if u're getting billy with doors, u can opt to buy the better hinges known as the Integral 153 instead of the normal hinges... the Integral 153 hinge is more expensive ($8 per piece), and it is actually manufactured by BLUM (well-known for the good quality) instead of by IKEA... just inform the sales person that u want the Integral 153 hinges
  11. i would say billy is a mid-range bookshelf... it is more expensive that those cheap stuffs sold in carrefour, but less expensive than custom-made 3-piece plywood type... if u want really good quality bookshelf, perhaps look for a good contractor to quote u for a custom-made one... if ur expectation is not so high, perhaps billy will suit u... just take good care of it e.g. gently put and remove things from the shelves, dun overload the shelves, distribute the weight evenly... i used billy to keep my heavy textbooks during my uni days and it was ok... now i use it to keep paperback novels...
  12. i know got three brands this kind of stationary lock... Duro, Castle and V*** (can't remember the exact name)... the Duro and V*** can get from DIY shop... Castle must call up the company SingLock (check yellow page for tel no.)...
  13. hi dorcas, can PM me where u get quotes of $2300-$2400 for the daikin system 4 non-inverter??
  14. hitachi 42" plasma 42PD9500TA is a good model... one of the highest resolution for plasma in the market now... 1024 x 1080... normal plasma e.g. samsung PS-42C91H is only 1024 x 768... hitachi price is abt the same as samsung... at gain city CCK opening sales, hitachi 42PD9500TA is $2388 including a hitachi HTS... samsung PS-42C91H is abt $2000 without HTS... so for just the tv alone, price is comparable
  15. esaver also has countdown timer switch (adjustable timing up to max 3 hr), just plug into the wall socket, and the appliance just plug into the timer switch... v simple to use and no need to install anything... but of cos also as nice as those built-in timer switch... mustafa selling it at $12...
  16. i'm puzzled... MDF is already "medium density fibreboard", so "high density MDF" means high density medium density fibreboard"?? doesn't make sense leh....
  17. just some additional info... the current generation of plasma already does not have the burn in effect... e.g. the hitachi plasma has the alternate lighting system that prevents burn in... life span of plasma is on par with LCD... 60000 hrs... typical plasma brightness is 1000 to 1500 cd/m2 typical LCD brightness is 500 cd/m2 typical plasma contrast is 10,000:1 to 15,000:1 typical LCD contrast is 5000:1 to 10000:1 response time effect can be visible when watching high speed action like sports... full HD refers to the number of lines on the screen (1080p)... it has nothing to do with black/white contrast...
  18. hi h4happy, how about approaching other contractors/ID for quotation?? i know both zhisheng and homemakers are stationed at the your new estate, but it would be helpful to you to explore other contractors/ID out there... there are many of them for u to choose... be very firm with the contractor/ID that you will sign the contract only after you have collected keys or at a time you are comfortable with... spell this out clearly in your first meeting with them... use a filtering system to filter out contractors/ID who are insincere or have poor attitude... usually the first quotation would not be exactly what u want, so amendments are necessary... sometime, more than 5 rounds of quotation are needed to reach the final quotation... at each round, some contractor/ID will fall out of the race, leaving only the more sincere contractor/ID... this way can filter out contractors/IDs who are just trying to pull a fast one on you... if the contractor doesn't even have the patience to amend quotations for you, the contractor could hardly be expected to have good attitude to serve you after u have signed the contract! of cos, this way will not guarantee that u get the perfect contractor/ID, but it can at least filter out some bad ones... by getting more quotation, u can also get a better feel of the market rates of the materials... i have got quotes ranging from $2800 to $3800 for the same brand and quality of laminate flooring for the same floor area... i also got quote direct from the laminate flooring supplier and it is even lower than $2800... so i know immediately that the ID who quoted me $3800 is trying to pull a fast one on me... the renovation business is a buyer-beware market... the more u know, the better u can protect yourself from being over-charged and under-served... happy contractor/ID shopping!
  19. a comparison of the power consumption and electricity bill of using 37' plasma vs 37" LCD... plasma: panasonic VIERA TH-37PV70H LCD: hitachi 37LD900TA watch TV mon to fri from 7pm to 12mn sat and sun 2pm to 12mn total viewing hours per month = 180 hrs power input: plasma = 0.31 kW LCD = 0.18 kW elec consumption per month: plasma = 180 * 0.31 = 55.8 kW LCD = 180 * 0.18 = 32.4 kW elec bill per month @ $0.20 / kWh: plasma = 55.8 * $0.20 = $11.16 LCD = 32.4 * $0.20 = $6.48 difference per month= $4.68 If 37" plasma is cheaper than 37" LCD by $200, and u get the plasma, u save $200 upfront, and this amount could pay for the $4.68 increase in elec bill for 42 months, or nearly 3.5 years... furthermore, plasma has sharper contrast, brighter images, more brilliant colors and faster response time... so i would think the plasma is a pretty good buy compared with LCD... anyway, just to share my opinions lah...
  20. i used billy for more than three years, still strong and standing...
  21. hi rina, both ur posts today are to advertise KH and CC... it's a tad too obvious that u're advertising for them... pls note that advertising is not allowed in these threads...
  22. hmm, drying clothes using dryer is actually more hygienic than using sunshine... cos the hot air will kill the germs in the clothes whereas sunshine will not... furthermore, hanging clothes to dry will lead to the clothes collecting dust, dirt and germs, whereas the air in the dryer is cleaner because the air is filtered at the air inlet... so, in terms of cleanliness and hygiene, dryer is actually better than sunshine...
  23. hi warrior88, thank you very much! 2 m viewing distance, 37" screen suitable... but now where got 37" plasma one?? only got LCD for 37" size and i think 37" LCD even more ex than 42" plasma
  24. hi monkeybone.. can share ur quote?? which company is it?? thanz! hi h4happy... maybe u can view the threads in renotalk on ID/contractors... a lot of reviews on many ID/contractors there...
