  1. hi oldskool, let me check with my bro, hope they didnt dispose them when they moved to their new flat last year I have never seen them using! 20130807_082852 by Sarahbj3b, on Flickr
  2. Yes Zihui we should do our part to help keep the sunset industries and small independant shops alive! shopping and dining in singapore is becoming so boring with too many chain stores domimating the retail space. I hope I can still indulge in handmade kuehs, steam yam cake/pumpkin cake, rojak and popiah in my sunset years !
  3. I have a dozen of "ping-pong" bowls!! I helped my friend moved some ctns to her new flat 7-8 years ago and she showed me one big ctn of kitchen stuff which she intends to give away. Her mom was a shoppping queen and bought many things which they neverbor rarely use. Was delighted to see the "ping-pong" bowls coz I have never seen them before. took the bowls and a brand new food warmer . I gave away six bowls to my younger brother and his wife, they never use them! Maybe I should sell them to oldskool
  4. haha June I think MsChocobanana and her DIY expert husband's house reno can match your super slow and steady record lol. hi MsChoconananaI I saw your blog this morning and I started reading from the last page, it was such a good read that I finished reading all five pages at one go on my bed! and I only realised half way through that your DIY expert husband is June's ID!
  5. Who cares if its colonial or industrial scandinavian, its very nicely done up!
  6. oic its a very comfy and good looking sofa and I was wondering if you had to return it due to some quality issues They had a sofabed with wooded frame in the PS 2012 collection which I like but it was taken out shortly after launch. My friend at IKEA told me it had some quality issues
  7. Hej Summersann, Did you change your sofa? I remember seeing this sofa in beige from the IKEA PS 2012 collection on your blog a while ago: http://www.ikea.com/sg/en/catalog/products/40214853/
  8. Just saw this on craigsIist! http://singapore.craigslist.com.sg/grq/3925805130.html
  9. Thanks Vanessa! I dont have green fingers and my last attempt with growing herbs and tomatoes and chilli padi from the seeds I bought from a nursery with the help of a friend who has green fingers at my old walkup apt didnt work 8). Will give it another try as the kitchen and balcony at my current flat get very good sunlight and breeze. Fresh basil adds so much flavour to a simple pasta dish!
  10. hey Vanessa how about sweet basil and other ang moh herbs?
  11. Hi Zi Hui, Glad that you like the idea :-) I got my inspirations from IKEA hacker website that use old LP covers to dress up the Expedite/Besta doors. Use books/magazines instead of doors and found good use of the old CDs which I no longer listen to since I ripped the contents to my mac mini few years ago.
  12. Lovely greens! Do you grow herbs and edible plants?
  13. Hi Vanessa, I think so? So far I find the staff at the customer service and the three outlets I frequent were really helpful. Hi June, I like that long bench! Like That One is getting really good in giving an old piece of furniture a new life!
  14. last year they had sales during gss, national day, xmas and cny! you can check with them when is the next sales? did you order a dining table from them? the delivery charge will be waived if the combined purchase is over 2k They are pretyy flexible, I need not travel to their ulu warehouse to get the bundle deal...
  15. Hi Vanessa,, I bought a VINKEL queensize bedframe + writing desk + side table + folding chair for $1239 from Scanteak during their warehouse sales this Jan: http://singapore-promotions.com/warehouse-sales/scanteak-furniture-factory-clearance-sale-11-13-jan-2013-54968/attachment/scanteak-10-jan-2013/ They had another queensize bed on sales at $999 in Jan. Think kingsize bed frame cost $100-200 more?
  16. ION displayed both the single and double bed frame when I last visited the shop two months ago...
  17. Hello June, Are you looking for a single or double bedframe? The ION outlet is having 20% off for the single bed (display set). The delivery charge was waived during their gss sales about two months ago. Check out their pillows too, its about the same price as IKEA but better quality. some of the bed linens are still on sales. I am drooling over the new cotton+linen blankets I saw just now!
  18. oh I was told by my contractor about the new regulation last dec http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/54039-balcony-issue/
  19. The new layout of your flat is looking good! Did you level the balcony? Mine has the exact same layout as June. Didnt level the balcony due to the new HDB regulation that was in place last Sep/Oct.
  20. My home shopping missions in Shanghai accomplished! My friend's shanghai colleague ordered the security cams from tb and had them delivered to the office. Online shopping is very big in Shanghai and other big cities, my shanghainese friend buy lots of stuff from tb, from five-star hotel grade bath towels to garlic butter!I found a shop that does custom made curtains/blinds/sofa covers at the amazing 3-4 storey fabric market , made 3 80x50cm and 3 50x50cm sofa cushion covers for $85 inclusive of fabric., all done within a day. A tailor near bugis junction quoted me abt $30 to custom make one big cushion cover, excluding fabric! Bought a few colorful cushion covers and a 3.5meter linen fabric from the fabric market as well.
  21. The "cheaper", lesser known design pieces you have are lovely! I particularly like the Plumen energy savings bulb and the lamps by the young british designer. I had a debate with myself regarding the ceiling lamps at the dining area and the coffeetable 5-6 mths ago. I saw three interesting ceiling lamps at a boutique near a yoga centre I frequent which I thought I might want to get hold of. I only realised the three lamps are the popular trios by a designer named Tom Dixon after I googled them. I saw the replicas at a lighting shop that has the signature hammered effect on the inner brass and was still considering getting them but settled for an unused FLY pendant lamp I bought from a french woman from craigslist instead. I remember reading a comment on this forum that FLY pendant lamp is not in fashion anymore but it doesnt bother me. It matches my 10 year old dining table and the 2 meter long ink painting I handcarry back from Bali pretty well. For the coffeetable I was deciding between a modern classic replica from Picket n Rail and the Iman coffeetable from the Lifeshop. Decided to go for Iman coz I like the design and I like the philosophy of this local brand. But too bad I didnt know that Lifeshop has closed down their retail outlets in Singapore and only does online sales now. I went to their showroom/office at Balestier hoping to see the coffeetable but it wasnt on display. Bought a coffeetable and a Tulip side table from Picket and Rail in the end, and sold away the coffeetable two months later. Still thinking about Iman
  22. On the topic of Haze, I bought three of these ceiling fans from a shop at Joo Seng Road: http://www.amasco.com.sg/product.aspx?pID=162&scID=34 The design is nothing to shout about but the description caught my attention when I purchased them five months ago: - The all-new Nano series features the latest technology that emits Far Infrared Rays (FIR) and negative ions. It ionizes and activates water molecules in our cells and blood thus improving our blood circulation and health conditions. This technology can assure the purification of the air around us, preventing bacteria growth and eliminating bad odour. I am sure it will not work as well as the honeywell purifiers but every little helps? For a $200 ceiling fan I think it works rather well, I use the one in the living room all the time when I am alone (and switch on the 18k btu aircon when I have guests, around). It's not noisy at all when I switch the speed to 2 (or 3 occasionally) Kinda regretted changing my mind about installing one of the fan in my room for fear that I might not used to having a ceiling fan right above the bed..
  23. There is no smell and it feels smooth.. what I meant by intimidating is the epoxy gives a glossy feel and it took a while to subside. My friends love it though. I remember a french guy even put his cheek on the glossy cement screed to feel the material and asked me what was it, and he said it will look great in his summer house in France
  24. The ledge your ID helped to put up in the kitchen is quite versatile for homeowners like us who doesn't know how to handle a drill I bought two shorter wooden ones from IKEA and used one for putting framed poster in the hall and one in my bedroom for putting books/painting.
