  1. So sad to hear that There is a quite famous chinese physician who shifted his clinic to Blk 79E Toa Payoh. Read abt him on local newspaper, seems to be quite solid. Could try him though I have never visited him. Have you ever read from newspaper recently abt a scientific research that if a patient fast for 48 hrs after each chemo treatment, his/her body will become stronger somehow? Don't know how true it is.
  2. Hmm, I don't have feature wall and tv console leh I have ordered a small solid wood tv stand from IKEA, even b4 my renovation started. My bf loves solid wood lah. Anyway, I feel that if your idea is not feasible, he will suggest something else to you. After renovating so many units, I am sure he is experienced to know what will work and what will not. As for colour scheme, he will give you advice if he feels that what you have chosen will look awful. However, he will try not to interfere cos taste of colour is very personal. He keeps telling me that he never like to advise owners on what colour to choose. But if the result turns out not what you want, he will get his painter to redo the work for you.
  3. Hi, I have installed California Oak laminate flooring for my 2 bedrooms. One of the room was painted in light purple whilst the other in light blue for all the walls except ceiling. After the floor was up, I noticed it was showing reddish brown in purple room and light brown in blue room. The contrast is very strong Initially I thought Supreme used diff batch of Cali Oak laminates for my rooms, but my bf said the impression of diff brown floor colour in the rooms was due to paint reflection from the walls. Are my eyes trying to cheat me? Does anyone have this problem of using same laminate but diff result due to paint colour? TIA
  4. hey applefreak, like this no good leh, then everyone will become impolite mah They buay zi dong is a bad manner of them, you shouldn't learn from them and follow their way. Just my 2cents worth
  5. BunBun, sometimes men are even harder to please My bf spotted a black dirt on the glass door of disk tray. As it was being laminated underneath, no way can Ah Keong remove it. He wanted Ho Bee to change the whole piece (glass door) though I felt that it was still acceptable. I feel so bad for Patrick Yes, Patrick is always friendly and everything no problem BTW, I have changed my main door colour to a pinkish orange upon Patrick's comment. He said my choice of light brown wouldn't turn out nice His painter did the painting last weekend on my doors and door frames, the result was great, love that pinkish orange colour
  6. Sad to hear that. At least it did not happen after you have bought over the flat. Just forget about it and move on to look for another flat. Can HDB help you to get back the deposit from the seller?
  7. I think it is around $180-$190. Do note this price excludes installation.
  8. Cool, your plan sounds nice Actually I also don't see the point of doing wall tiles for the kitchen. What about toilet and bathroom wall tiles? Are you going to hack them as well? Just do cement screed? Then you kitchen floor? Re-tile it or not?
  9. Cannot be the same lah, concrete support for sink area is more expensive. If your ID didn't say anything, just tell him you want concrete support for the whole of your sink area I personally prefer concrete support for sink area. In fact I am doing a long stretch of concrete support for kitchen sink, chopping area and stove. I can do all my chopping work on it without worrying that it will collapse one day. Using wood cabinet, you have to be careful so that water stain from the wash area is always wipe off, so that it will not slowly sip through to the wood via trimming lines or joints. I have a study table with edges warping due to contact lens solution spilled overnight without me realising it It was a very new table with laminated plywood
  10. As the flat will be empty, look up for any major cracks on the walls, big holes on the floor, all the electrical lighting points are working (by switching on all the lights one by one), for those build-in stuff eg. instant water heater, test if it is working. Check to see if all the windows glasses are working fine by opening and closing them. All the keys to your window grills and bedroom doors are in tact by locking and unlocking them. That's all I can think of at the moment. Anyone has more to add on? For defects, if you are taking loan from HDB, report to the officer handling your transaction. For loan from the bank, you will be assigned with a private lawyer, report all defects to him/her.
  11. oh, ic ic, this is cheap. How come the salewoman told me their price was charged per square foot? All the best to your kitchen reno
  12. You are actually doing quite a major work in your flat leh Yeah, you can't go for homo tiles in the living room unless you spend some $$ to hack away the Terrazzo. Going for laminate flooring is a cheaper choice now. I did not go for feature wall cos I can't even decide where my sofa will be placed eventually False ceiling is also out of my mind cos my current ceiling is already very low though I am not tall at all Frankly speaking, when you are on a tight budget, a lot of things can forgo liao. Not to cover all exposed area with homo tiles? On the floor or walls? For me, I am keeping the existing wall tiles, the old fashion with square tiles and blue flower pattern. These tiles are laid half height only. I simply asked my contractor to paint yellow colour paint on the rest of the exposed walls. With my kitchen cabinet in orange-colour laminate, my kitchen looks so cheerful now Got 3D diagrams to see or not?
  13. Ho Bee is charging me $180 to remove old kitchen cabinet + dispose off, and another $150 for clearing other debris off my flat. And my old kitchen cabinet is a very small one, about 5 feet long. If a reliable contractor like Ho Bee is also charging 2 separate sum for disposing diff rubbish, then maybe they really have to dump those stuff at diff locations
  14. I am using Supreme for my bedrooms. I would say Supreme and Kronotex are the 2 common choices among IDs. Manufactured in China with German technology means that they copied other people's idea onto his own product probably without paying for the copyright lor. Don't flame me if I sound too bad against China products If you are really keen in German technology, go for Kronotex. Their laminates are made in Germany. During the last expo, Kronotex quoted me $4.80 psf whilst I got an offer from Supreme at $4.30 psf.
  15. S7654R, your $190 is per foot run or per sq foot? Unless they are having a sale now, else from what I know, they charge their stone at per sq foot. Compassvale, yes quartz can avoid the seamlines for long pieces. They will send their man to your place for measurement before they customised a single piece to fit onto your countertop. Measurement, delivery and labour cost are all included in their price, except the hole cutting cost.
  16. Hi Happy, Like you nickname, I must keep myself happy everyday Picky in a way that I hope everything are done swee swee I did not hack down the existing kitchen wall tiles as I like the old design of square tile with blue flower pattern. So I cannot afford to let Ho Bee make mistakes and create extra holes on the wall tiles. And I asked them to redo the kitchen floor due to shifting of sink and basin. Since I will be getting a brand new kitchen floor, I hope it can be perfect leh. Oh, who say nothing is perfect in this world? Yes, I do write down most of the measurement on my notes, just to make sure I have space for my sink, chopping area, stove, washing machine and fridge. No 3D lah. This one need to pay extra leh, Ho Bee also don't give. Green light? I remembered asking Patrick to do the toilet bowl last because I was hesitating to reject it or not due to poor quality, but he forgot to tell his plumber and that guy started to install the bowl. Luckily the water tank was leaking and I really need to reject it. Else I probably have to sit on a poor quality toilet bowl till I sold my flat Aiyoh, Patrick always give me plenty of excuses and reasons. He always say no problem, definitely can work blah blah blah. Since he is an expert and I know nothing about renovation, I just tell him what I want to achieve and let him do the work
  17. Hi, thanks for all the comments given. Actually I was looking at this incident from a slightly diff angle. If it was a case of a guy crashed his BMW and died due to drink driving or speeding, I probably wouldn't raise my eyebrown. Some of the construction companies here do not treat their foreign workers that well enough, and these workers most are not well educated enough to know their rights and safety precautions. Even if they know, they probably won't dare to demand from the supervisor. Such incident are avoidable. Well, I was thinking that with media coverage for public awareness and knowledge, those irresponsible companies could be punished by the respective bodies. That's all I have to say on this topic.
  18. Try going thru the feature article on "The Wardrobe Story" in this section for some ideas. I saw one of the owner asked Ah Keong from Ho Bee to do a re-skinning of their existing build-in wardrobe. The result was very good and nice. The damage was $1300 for a very huge wardrobe, looks > 6 feets.
  19. The kind of service they provide you is to do the hard work for you, ie. hack existing tiles, do water proofing, apply cement base, lay the tiles etc. Initially, I thought all this should not be difficult as long as you have a systematic way of doing things, but renovation proves to be hard work for me when I was trying to apply the white putty myself to seal up some holes which could be used as ants nest. The skin on my index finger worn off merely 2 hours later If you bought a lousy tiles, the tiler would stop and seek your further advice. He won't continue with his work and give you a lousy flooor without your acknowledge. Ho Bee is good and Patrick is a nice guy to work with. If these people can work with a Jewish and picky woman like me, I think they can work with anyone in the world
  20. Patrick replied me within 3 days. Just call him for outcome. If he cannot answer your call, he will call you back later. As for electrician, I have 2 young guys for the work in my flat. Saw them last weekend when they knocked on my doors for shifting of power points. So far find them to be pretty ok. Oh no, I have selected light brown colour for my main door leh Don't like dark colour so go for this cuppuchino brown colour. I hope it will turn out nice.
  21. My living room floor is also Terrazzo, but not ugly in my eyes No intention to hack it since the day I bought it. I just told my contractor to polish it. Very shiny now What about rewiring, piping and painting work? Initially I wanted to do something simple for my flat. In the end, I changed the toilet bowl, instant water heater, basin cos they were of not-so-good quality... Burn a big hole in my pocket leow Do note that if you wish to shift your kitchen sink from the current location to somewhere else, you will probably need to hack your floor tiles for new drainage pipe. I am keeping my main door and bedroom doors as well, just paint them to the colours I like. Save $$ lah
  22. When I was in my under-renovating flat last weekend, one of the antie neighbour told me an Indian construction worker fell from the roof of a 20-storey HDB flat not far away from our block. It was a Saturday morning. Apparently that young guy was doing some work on the roof without putting any safety belt. The antie told me he died instantly with his head straight to the ground I have been flapping yesterday and today's newspapers but cannot find any writeup on this incident. Why? Because this is a small case or that guy is a foreign worker? A life is still a life irregardless of his skin colour.
  23. Yeah lah, his tiler is so scared of me now cos I am so picky and demanding. Actually, being my first flat, I just want everything to be nice nice leh Maybe women are harder to please I am ok to drop by the flat to have a look as and when I have time, cos at the end of the day, I know what I want. Oh yes, Ah Keong is so fantastic that his hand-draw diagram is as good as the 3D one except w/o colours In fact Patrick do take down notes. The last time when I met with him, I have written down 2 small pages of points-to-note. He clarified most of my queries and noted 2 points on his notebook. He even asked me, only 2 love letters?
  24. 90% of the owner would want to hack that wall cos your kitchen would look very small and crampy with that stupid wall Most of the 3-room flats in TPY I have been to had that wall being hacked down. Have PM you my flat's price. Actually with this price, I can buy a 4-room somewhere else So used to TPY and with my parents & sister around here, didn't want to move out of TPY !! What big overhaul do you intend to do in your flat?
  25. Hallo Cindy, Welcome to TPY Wanted to start a blog but I am too lazy to upload the pics I took Your floor plan don't look quite updated leh, is there a wall between the kitchen and so-called balcony? Finally saw someone who bought a 3-room flat in TPY. I have been living in TPY for many years and recently bought a flat for myself. Renovation is going on now, hope to move in mid of next mth Mine is also in original condition but don't want to spend too much in making a major overhaul to it cos already paid too much for the flat. I am very broke now TPY flats are not cheap ah, so anyone planning to buy a flat here must prepare to pay more. Feel free to ask me if you need any help
