CONFIRMED Interior Design Firm

After one by one contractor, and after our first appointment with HDB, we finally come down to a decision to hire ideal house as our renovation contractor, our interior designer is Steven Tay from IDEAL HOUSE.

Recommended by our friend. A friendly and patient guy that really listen to what we look for in the house design... and try his best to do to what we want... notti.gif

Selection of Tiles

Our ID brought us to select our floor tiles at Balestier today. We managed to pick our floor tiles within 2 hours. Kinda of fast. But somehow we can visualize the kind of tiles we wanted as our home theme is Modern Classic.

My hubby has his eyes on a rustic feel tile for the foyer floor. The surface seems a bit rough, gives a ruggard kind of feel. Good for me, less cleaning... haha. i cannot stand things that can see dirty too easily.

2294288402_f842dbdea2_m.jpg

Steven recommended a cement looking tile for kitchen. But then, we prefer black tile for kitchen. The kitchen carpentery shall be red and black theme.... Wooo.... we can visualize its going to be very nice as our kitchen lack of light shining in. Red shall brighten up the kitchen feel...

2294288056_82e0d38bb7_m.jpg

Then going into our utitily room where we decided to overlay the flooring since it was just being upgraded by HDB with a woody feel.

2293499815_13fe282025_m.jpg

Then for the living hall, we do not have much to choose... our ID recommended a neutral beige for the living hall and black for toilet floor. Initally, even before going to meet our ID, my ideal tiles for living hall is black gloss tile. But seems like we do not have much selection. Our ID recommended matte tile if we want a solid color. But then he warned us that there is a lot of maintenance to be done, and you can see if its dirty easily. He did recommend us a greyish matte tile but that again look like cement floor which i don't really agree on. tentatively, my hubby and i choose on a beige white homogeneous tile.

2294288428_c0477ddbe5_m.jpg

As we still have some time, we went to Jalan Besar to select our sink, kitchen tap and towel bowl. We couldn't see a nice sink so we shall KIV our toilet basin and sink tap. We might be DIYing our basin bracket.

2293499695_7daaef9d56_m.jpg

Cooker hob.... we prefer to get the black gloss instead of aluminium surface... our ID shall be checking out the extra amount we need to fork out. We were so tempted to get the flat sleek cook hob that runs on electric.. but was quoted 900 plus...forget it... :P

Hey, your floorplan shows your place as being spacious for a 3 room flat besides the interesting layout.. is that a 90sqm or 80 sqm area I see?

HDB upgraded a utitly room... and making up to 76 sq metres. :P

Wow, not bad, your layout is different from the normal standard layout for 3 roomers. You were referring to induction cooker hob right? Would be more worth it if you got a 2 hob induction cooker as cannot use 4 hobs at the same time for cooking. Cheaper one is vitroceramic but got to be careful 'cos can burn yourself compared to induction. :dribble:

My parents n in-laws are quite pessmistic on the colours... u know.. old folks. but we want our unit to be somewhat different. Quite glad that the colours come up to our expectations.

basically our renovation is completing soon and we can move in in early May! so happy.

Ok.. i'll take note on the price and brand. thanks for ur recommendations :P

No prob. Just sharing what I know. :dribble:

Old folks are like that with traditional outlook. When I did the painting of my place with my hubby, we painted it in monchromatic coliours like dark & light grey colours for living & red for one of the walls. My PIL felt the colours were too sombre and dark for their liking. Only when the flooring & skirting are up then it made the view look better for them.

It's very difficult for older generation to visualise clearly how the colours will turn out so it might turn out not too bad for your folks when everything's up in the end

Progress to date 19 April 2008

We went up in the morning to check on the progress... and spotted some stuff that need to be changed!

Living Hall

2421476672_22f10c9258.jpg

TV console TOO BROAD!:P:)

Too awfully bulky look... To be cut to slimmer the breath of the tv console!

Dining Hall

My Favorite Lamp needs to be centralize!

Temper Glass is installed today!:P:dribble:

Custom-made Dining Table

2425094341_d556176cd0.jpg

The dimensions our ID given us is too short! My hubby was so dismay when he saw this. He has been looking forward to this table as we couldn't find any table to our liking... Talked to our ID... change change change... :P

Kitchen

2425095213_a0170666b8.jpg

Some bits and minor things need to be changed e.g. the base of the drawer to use a thicker wood. Found some tears and scratches but we are assured by our ID, by handover, will do up the touch up...

Hey Shix2_82, is your ID from Ideal House?

Anyway, just like you, my bf like a dark glossy finish tiles, but the sales person told us it is not easy to maintain too. So she recommended a greyish black matte with running tone for a modern contemporary look. It's a pretty tile. After much consideration, we stick to beige tiles for living also. =)
