Is L-box And Light Cove A Waste Of Electricity?

Recommended Posts

I believe L-Box is actually refers to the narrow strip of plaster false ceiling that hugs the edge of the ceilings. The "L" references the shape of the plaster. Recessed downlights are commonly installed and somehow the two became synonymous.

Cove lighting refers to creating an indirect light source by bouncing the light off the ceiling to give softer lighting as opposed to the harsh lighting from direct lights. Can be used as accent lighting or as a softer main light.

Hello,

May I know what is the unit price for L-Box psf? Once installed, can it be remove and reinstall if servicing of cables are needed?

Mine is a 32 year old, 5-rm, 119sqm, see quote attached here. 5 horizontal beams within unit, no choice, decide to do false ceiling & L-box to "blend" & "hide" these beams, so not so obvious. Must run cables first(must decide how many lighting pt first) then install the L-shape. No need to service the cable/wires unless....short circuit. PCL light's tubes can be easy removed/installed by removing the glass.

False ceiling/L-box once installed become parts of ceiling, remove them? Sure, when you're tire of the design and change new pattern, why not?

Is there any PLC downlight without the need of a ballast?

all PLC need ballast to work,]

other type are call ELC which the ballast integral with the lamp itself, but you need

to buy the downlight with E27 lamp holder..

This is very nice 'tutorial' to clarify my confusion on how to get effect of soft lighting using cove lighting. Thank you.

Yes its sufficient enough provide u don't use a 13w downlight or a downlight with frosted glass panel.

I have a mix of downlight in L box and cove lighting. Can switch on either or both depending on how much light is needed, similar to what an earlier poster has as well.

I don't have ceiling/pendant lighting in living room as I am using ceiling fan.

I think you still need ceiling light. L box light is more for the ambience.

Agree with u, its for ambience. With lights hidden and pointing upwards etc, it is a waste of energy.

it depends on several factors:

1) spacing bet downlights

2) big or small size downlights. big size can contain a bigger bulb.

3) frosted glass or clear glass. clear of coz brighter.

4) colour tone of the lamp, white or "cool yellow". white of coz brighter
