Join 46,923 satisfied homeowners who used renotalk quotation service to find interior designers. Get an estimated quotation

More than 1 month ago, we were looking for an ID. After reading so many good comments on Kelvin from GPlan, I had asked for his contact number.

Here's some updates on my search for an ID.

Right after I got Kelvin's number, I gave him a call. I was lucky, he picked up the phone, as I understand that he was a busy man. He rejected us out right, but I asked him to meet up with us first then see how. So, he agreed.

So, we met and immediately, we know we have rapport. Even went to our new house to take a look..etc..

After that, he said that he was very interested in doing this job, and said that he would give us a quotation.

While waiting, we decided to also contact another ID who has also been receiving very good comments and feedback from home owners in this renotalk forum too. He's Benedict from Earnest Interior.

So, same thing, we called him, and he rejected us out right because of busy schedule. He was going to recommend his colleage Jonathan who also had a lot of good comments from forumers. But we thick skin again, and asked Benedict to meet us first and then see how. Same thing, we also have very good rapport with Benedict. One difference though is, Benedict listens to our ideas and make a number of very good suggestions. So, after 2-3 hours of talking to Benedict, he said he'll also give us the quotation.

After meeting the 2 well recommended IDs, all we could do was to wait for quotations.

Finally, it was due date for Kelvin to send us the quotation. But unfortunately, we did not hear from him. So, got to call him a few times just to remind him after the due date. He said he sent liao, and said he'll double check. After a few more days, still no news. Called him again, he said he sent liao.. and said got problems with his laptop...bla bla bla..

Finally, we offered to go to his office to get the quotation. So, we drove all the way there to get it from him. Good news, we had the quotation. But we were left with it to try to understand it.

Then comes the time for Benedict to send us the quotation. He was right on schedule. Though he was also very busy, he set a meeting time with us to go through the quotation line by line!! And along the way, shared with us briefly what he has in mind for the house. We exchanged ideas, and Benedict promised us to give us a revised quotation. Once again, Benedict was right on schedule in providing us the revised quotation. And we go through the amended items line by line. Then we need the 3rd quotation after more discussions on the design.

In all, we spent at least 8 hours with Benedict to discuss our requirements, the quotation, the design..etc.. And we haven't even signed contract with him.

On the other hand, we only spent less than 2 hours with Kelvin. 4 days after we had quotation from Kelvin, he called us instead. :-) He asked us for feedback on the quotation and said that he has time for us now. We managed to push the decision to 2 days later. And this time, Kelvin call us right on time 2 days later.

Finally, the decision time comes. We thought that since we've already spent alot of time with Benedict and Benedict has also spent alot of time with us, and that Benedict has really given us a lot of very good suggestions to help us save cost and yet about to make it a hotel-like house, we decided to have Benedict to be our ID.

Hurray! Hurray! Finally, we are moving on. I'll try to create another thread in this forum (if I know how to do it) with beore and after pictures. :-)

just to add on Kelvin's feedback...we're one of his old customers, had our flat handed back in Nov 2006.

like most of the clients here, we're satisfied with his service. in fact many of our guests praised his workmanship & the value of money of my reno. :notti:

i would be lying if i said tat everything was going smoothly.

if any of u follow my reno blog, u will find me vending my anger & frustration halfway thru the reno. :thumbs up::sport-smiley-004:

he was plagued with personal pbm & hectic schedule, ended up both he & us made several serious mistakes. but in the end, he settled it in a professional way & everyone is satisfied.

moreover, some of my fren's IDs will simply heck care or ask for extra $$$ in case u asked for assistance once the flat is handed over, but tat's not the case with Kelvin.

u must be wondering why he has a bunch of loyal fans here in Renotalk, yeah? :(

anyway, i've just re-shoot some photos of my house again after my old gallery went down recently.

Comtemporary Asian (Japanese) theme

contrary to popular belief, this is not "Zen". for true Zen, one must adhere to the strict guidelines on emphasizing space & simplicity, not only bcoz one has some wenge furnitures then it will become Zen...doh.gif

Kelvin gave our 8yo 121sqm 5rm resale flat a total makeover

Wow nice pictures from hencpu! I see liao also gian..

Actually in fact I think being of the pioneer batch our design is not as good as the rest of the members taking Kelvin service. He has so much improvements after ours.. so sometimes a bit sian after seeing the fotos put up by you all haaa. But we like our home and is satisfied with Kelvin's after sales service.. cos after 1 year of reno he will still attend if we faced probs.

Recently heard from a fren that she picked another ID cos of cheaper quotation but end up the final bill is much higher than the quotation from Kelvin (oops if u are reading this posting dun be upset :)) cos the ID add this and that..

for one thing our quotation = final bill. Kelvin never add any extra cost to us unless we request for extra item. And any probs u complain more he will attend.

However of course there are cons of his service.. our reno took quite long, it take 5 mths to complete and that time there is no personal prob etc, just tat it is peak period. Then sometimes his design sense is so strong that he must design nice nice for us but we wanted practicality over design for some aspects. So therefore, some items in my house now are not so practical and i will scold Kelvin at times haaaaa

like the cosy corner has sharp edges and i told him to design circular but he say it does not fit in the design layout of my house so he provide a square one but has sharp corners. Many times i nearly tripped over the edge.. :dunno:

Then the shoe cabinet, i told him not to put the strips of wood cos it is easier to sit near the door but he put the strips of wood for design.. so now we dun use the seatee (cos the strip of wood block the entrance of door to seatee).. basically not so practical.. and he never give us any holes for the shoe cabinet so our shoes no air!.. shoes spoil more easily lor.

So both pros and cons lah.. overall satisfied with his service and he is a nice person.
