Floor Tiles Setting-out Point

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

My contractor recommended for me to set out and lay my Living and Dining Room floor tiles from the centre of my Main Door entrance, claiming that its good feng shui to see a whole tile when u enter the flat.

but due to the layout of my hse this method will actually lead to a whole row of cut tiles at the opposite corner of my Living/ Dining (ie visible when u enter the flat) which i don't really like. My initial idea was to set out the tiles from within the Living area instead so that the whole large tiles are prominently visible in the Main Living space.

Can i seek advice as to whether my contractor's recommendation holds water? that floor tiles should be set out/ laid from the Main door for Fengshui reasons?

Appreciate some advice, thanks! :)

Visual effects influents mood. Mood is mental, therefore it is fs related. May I know what's the tile material, surface finishing, color & size, before commenting?

Hi bepgof, thanks for the response. we will be installing 600X600mm homogenous tiles, glossy finish, off-white in colour. the more standard type for Living/ Dining flooring :)

Also to add, my main door is currently a 2-leaf door configuration i.e. one 900mm operable door leaf and a 300mm panel which is usually kept closed. So my contractor's proposed setting out for fengshui is to set from the centre of the 1200mm door opening. so actually if i set them out this way, when i open my 900mm main door leaf i don't see a full centralised tile in front of me too  any cause for concern?

thanks in advance for your comments! ;)

Believed your concern is the "grout line visual effect". Basically, you should not have worried much abt where to lay 1st tile. Glossy ginish homogenous tiles with 2 ft x 2ft size, have minimum grout lines, quite the same as those granites. Instead should concern about the color of grout lines to be matched with the tile color, they should be looked with minimum contrast color.

Water-leveling is more concerned for me, I used a 3-ft "leveling ruler" (bought at BuilderSmart pte ltd鲁班行)(the one with liquid and bubble, can put & mesure vertical & horizontal) to measure floor level at different place while wip, also the walls & window frames, door frames, floor trap...ask contractor to lay & tilt up a bit the foor step (make sure doors can swing & close without rubbing the tilt floor)
