3 pointsHappy News! Recently lots of updates on our estate FB group about foreign "opportunists" trying the gates and doors of our estates in attempt to break in and steal stuff (okay this is not the good news). And I brought up this point to hubby, voicing out my concerns.. And then subtly (erm ok, maybe not that subtly) say that digital lock has in built burglar alarm So...... he finally allowed the use of digital lock for our home! YAY! I like to think of it that he agreed due to the burglar alarm, but there's also that uneasy feeling that he don't want to be nagged at to hear about the wonders of digital locks for the next 5 years But we get to install the digital lock! The simplest model, but that's more than enough for us at the moment. YAY!

1 pointHi, just curious what are the materials u regret using/ installing in your house? Maybe it's extremely difficult to maintenance or spoilt very easily. Anyone have trouble with glossy laminate for cabinets? eg. white color laminate, will it turn yellowish after some time?...Which kind of glossy material is best? Want to gather some info first before I start my renovation. Thank you.

1 pointAnyone did double glaze windows before? I'm trying to find a few more contractors for quotes. Hoping the folks here can give some recommendations! I got a $3400 quote from Pang Giap for my corridor windows, but it seems they are getting bad reviews on this forum!

1 pointNo, there is nothing wrong with putting the switch at the DB box. I suggested putting the switch at the living room LAN point because I thought the new LAN point in the study is near this point, and it is probably easier to lay your LAN cable to here, rather than to the DB box. Of course if the new LAN point in the study is near the DB box, then laying the cable to the DB box makes sense. I am just wondering if this DB box is sufficient to put three devices: ONT (fibre modem), residential gateway (the wireless router supplied by your ISP) and your switch. They take up quite a bit of space. For their sizes, you can check out mine: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/62505-top-kew-drive/?p=835980 There are certain advantages in putting the switch at the living room instead of this DB box. You can add more devices to the switch. For example, the switch at my living room supports the TV, sound bar, Apple TV and wireless router. If the switch is at the DB box, I guess you cannot use it much.

1 pointI think for me all oven basically have the same specs. It the end result that count. The functions you usually look for the oven is top and bottom heat for baking and roasting top and bottom with fans for cookies and muffin grilling funtion. this 3 are normally the common functions you might want to look at. If you bake a lot then normally ppls will go for a decent brands like ariston bosch brandt or la germanie. As for hob and hood really depend on what budgets you put for them as the main difference is really the fire power configuration of the hobs you all prefer to use. Normally ppls will go for slime line hoods if they want more cupboard space and chimney for more suction power. Fridges again come to how the compartments and spaces whether they are sufficient enough to put your shopping spree lol cause normally for what i know is most brands of fridge are quite lasting. Hopes it help to answer your questions.

1 pointAnd we have reached the end of all my posts!! Decided to finish all the posting in a day, just in case i get lazy to finish them off. Wanted to post to give back to renotalk for all the yrs of postings i have been reading and they were indeed very useful in helping me plan for my new house. =) and also a way to thank my contractor, Valiancy, for their works and accommodating our needs to move in quickly. It was definitely an enjoyable process that I went through with my hubby, but once is enough.. hahahaha.. very tiring.. cannot imagine myself going through another renovation again...

1 pointQuite a fair bit of home makers used it. IMO better than laminate, as laminate still has wood content.

1 pointKITCHEN CABINETS We are now waiting for the arrival of the granite counter top & backsplash. To keep the cost low we decided to use laminate instead of granite for the 5 foot dry area. Nothing fancy but just a normal drawers and casement doors. 5 ft cabinets (Left) Only for electric appliances, kitchen utensils & dried stuff. 11 ft cabinets (Right) Purely for our hood, hob, kitchen basin tap, pots and pans. No top hang cabinets as we are really afraid of GREASE deposit.

1 pointis casement or sliding windows better for kitchen? Any major price differences? I like casement since they can all be opened up but i am worried in future after wear and tear the window might fall off! Also you'll get your hands all wet when closing them when raining. For sliding windows, i don't fancy cleaning the 'tracks' as they collect dust but they seems 'safer' on a long term basis. Any advice?

1 pointI visited Gain City and purchased the following system 3 combination as salesman recommended Mitsubishi Electric MXY-3A28VA / 2 X MSY-GE10VA / MSY-GE24VA I'm owning a 4rm HDB, wondering if the GE24VA is too big for my living room. Plus, the unit is 1.1 meter long which I don't like. My dining area plus living is only about 20-25 sqm. Should I change the unit to 18VA only? I assume the number means or closely means to BTU, which should be enough for my living room, right? I don't have to install the big unit to overkill as well. Hope anyone has experience could advice. I would need to change quickly if needed as installation is happening next Monday.

1 pointHi, I'm looking for a carpenter to put together a 8 ft tv bench (standalone) with some drawers. Anyone has a good experience with a particular contractor? I'm concerned about the quality of the drawers and the veneer finishing. If you've any pictures (esp zoomed in to the finishing) that would be great. You can PM me their contact and any photos. Thanks in advance!

1 pointWe came out with a layout on our own as we are still waiting for a few input from a few firm that we are going to see. We feel that we actually did not fully utilise the space the master bedroom area in front of the wardrobe. Anyone got any feedback on the layout? Beside, i got a quotation from for my house system 3 aircon. 1) Mitsubishi Electric Inverter Model : MXY-4A38VA/MSY-GE10VA x 2 + MSY-GE24VA (38,241Btu) - Bedroom x 2 + Master $3,550.00 2) Daikin Model : 4MKS80ESG/FTKS25DVM x 2 + FTKS60FVM (27,296Btu) - Bedroom x 2 + Master $4,100.00 Is this consider exp? I know nothing about aircon totally..
