indeed. That was one of my consideration on the SC&C as well when i was house hunting. My mom's flat in JW St 42 is under Jurong GRC, no nothing whatsoever in improvement till the recent LUP which took place over close to two years. Imagine the dust and grit. Also having stayed there, I noticed the 55* area and 40* are a whole apart, thought both are along the same street and both under the same GRC. For example, 40* carparks are nicely paved with those outdoor terracotta bricks. 55* area are tarmac, at most oiled once in two years if we are lucky. Even the horticulture in 40* area are better maintained. And all these discrepancies at a higher SC&C! When i moved to Toh Guan, everything was newer/nicer/better maintained, yet we pay less SC&C for same catergory of flat types.

My area in Toh Guan was recently re-drawn under Jurong GRC from Holland-Bukit Timah GRC. Currently under Holland-Bukit Panjang Town Council, I pay $76.50 in SC&C fees. If the new zoning means I'll be under Jurong Town Council, I will have to pay $84.60. An increment of $8.10 per month through no fault of mine. If there is a choice of election candidates in my area, no prizes for guessing to whom my vote will be heading.

Purchase Of Older Flats
rickoveron replied to bythesea's topic in HDB New/Resale Flats, Executive Condominiums
but older flats also have: 1) alot of beams 2) alot of pillars 3) unsightly sewage pipes 4) crooked walls 5) in-house garbage chute (cockroach friendly) 6) massive amount of PVC casings outside the unit, accumulated over the years from various vendors -

a phone call to HDB will clarify your doubts and needs for a fire-rated door. -
Using Ferroli heater with my Hansgrohe Raindance. No issues with water pressure.

The toilet at my old place was predominantly dark tones, and i grew to hate it because i couldn't see where the algae, if any, was growing. I was also accustomed with switching on the lights everytime i used it, even in daytime because it just feels so dark. Dark colors really absorb light. My 2cents.

Try to stay away from tiles that feel too rough to touch. A good indication will be running the face of your fingernail across the tile. If the nailface gets buffed/filed, chances are it's too rough on your sole. Besides, having a tile that is too rough = soap scums staring at your every time u step into the bathroom. They are a *beach* to clean.

I suppose u can get the plumber to just do away with the supplied grey pipings and fabricate with his own using a T joint starting from the midpipe to the white neck below. The small flexible grey pipes are for overflow, which are not very common nowadays.

Small Electronic Shops Vs "the Big Boys"....
rickoveron replied to seamonkee's topic in Electronics & Electricals
i bought everything i needed from one of the small shops mentioned, and have no problem registering all the delivered products with the respective product agents. small shops, virtually no overheads... big shops manned by many sales personals who needs to be paid. it's a no brainer who ends up paying them. -
