Backsplash: Tiles, Stainless Steel, Glass Or...?
dbkungfu replied to moonlit's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
... xtually I decided to do glass backsplash b'cos I saw the same link couple weeks ago with ease of maintenance in mind. For the dirt, I guess it up to the workmanship, I do expect no big gap between my countertop & top cabinet. Plus the glass will be painted with ICI/Nippon on the back, so dirt wont be visible . anyway if dirt manage to sip in, then I will be worry that the glass will fell off the wall one of this day. My ID assure me that it will be tightly glue to the wall ... will see. Another challenge I foresee is the cut out holes for my power socket that may make the glass "unstable' that may lead to crack. Did consider s/s but may introduce scratches in not wipe properly, who know one day we will accidentally hit the pot covers or wok on it. of course, glass will probably break also. -
hey queenzee u probably wanna to look at doing cement screed/epoxy/sediment flooring but make sure that the contractor is experience one. those 3 solutions was mentioned to be cheaper. cement screed - basically just cement raw looks ... of course only if u like the look epoxy vs sediment floor - link renotalker doing epoxy link nightmare of one renotalker (sumobear) due to inexperience contractor link, end up doing tiling. eproxy maybe slippery though but some mentioned there is matt feels for better grip. Wanna to do cement screed but too late liawww ... my reno process on wet works already past plus ID mentioned not worthy as my floor is in good condition. anyway hope this give u more choice ... good luck

Hi Following are the list of company doing this kind of wardrobe. Visited alumix & closetdesign, in the end didnt go for any due to budget constraint. Their est cost for 5ft is around $1600, so around $3.2 for yours. Who knows GSS got better offer, do take note if u need to add extra for additional "accessories". hope this help ... www.opsh.com.sg http://www.closetrobe.com.sg/cg.html www.alumix.com http://www.lumierawardrobe.com.sg/wardrobe.htm http://www.cupboards.com.sg/VariousConfigI.asp http://www.ximula.com/ http://www.closetdesign.com.sg/ -

Hi It depend ... how big is your kitchen as the cost is per square feet, whether u are going to solidtop/granite counter plus soft closing system like blum, high end stainless steel accessories like welmi (chicken brand) as well. Mine 20ft (top+bottom) kitchen with some of the accessories above & without removing kitchen tiles already cost me around $5k. But mine price is a bit on the high end.

Hi welcome U may wanna to do "step down" for your toilets floor instead of shower kerb. Meaning, the floor height in the shower area are lower than outside the shower screen. In my opinion it look nicer ...

Backsplash: Tiles, Stainless Steel, Glass Or...?
dbkungfu replied to moonlit's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Hi Doing glass backsplash (6mm thickness) for my kitchen as most renotalker mentioned it is easier to maintain than stainless steel. Initially wanna to do stainless steel for those area behind my hobs. but do take note, if u plan to paint the backsplash in white background, it will result a bit greenish as that the glass color. Someone mentioned there is higher grade glass with less greenish but ID still mentioned there will some green as well & not worth the price. hope this help renotalk poll on backsplash link -

Day 10 (thursday) - lbox & carpentry measurement Completed since last few day: 1. Electrical works/wiring 2. kitchen base 3. MBR Bathroom tiling 4. bathroom sinks delivered today by Lite fusion (on-time) - for vanity measurement 5. aircon piping completed - very ugly ... dont wanna to take picture why cant they improve the technology to make it smaller or even pipeless. Like fridge, as I dont see any at all Photo taken by wf ... she been appointed as my 3rd party site supervisor now Lbox - living room Lbox - dining room Since Lbox is up already, I guess the loud air gun "firing" process had passed, worry downstair neighbor will complaint again. Wonder why they seal up totally the downlight wiring ... how would they know where is the point. Should they cut some square holes ? Anyway, leave it to my ID. MBR Bathroom tiles - floor completed Still worry about timeline ... ID mentioned base wall painting start tomorrow, so dusty how to paint & not seeing any carpentry work started yet, common bathroom tiling & pipe boxup still in progress ... stress stress

Day 5 (Thursday) - wet works & finalize on carpentry design Discussed with ID & carpenter on site on plan 3D design. Some minor change on my tv console design - scv, player, htpc compartment at middle of console to change to frosted glass (6mm thickness) as concern the IR signal may failed if using solid plywood though there are "holes". Glass should not have any problem. Didnt see much progress but ID reassure me that we are still on schedule. Luckily can speak Teo Chew, can discuss well with carpenter. Meeting end around 10pm. Common toilet - with water proofing is done (2 layer). Pipe to be boxup with water proofing as well Mbr toilet love this tiles - around $14 persqft, ID gave it free but just 2 rows.

thnx again jaskel. btw, I am on business travelling to penang today until wednesday. So update will around end of the week. ID mentioned the kitchen based should be complete then. Will see.
-
hi I would prefer custom made, as I can specify the design, exact size & dimension I prefer for all my stuff like hifi, dvd player, scv, htpc plus air ventilation design. I gave all the dimension to my ID, he will ensure that the conceal compartment can store them. anyway, do agree that is going to be more expensive. I guess this is like buying cloth from off the shelve or custom made by tailor the different is u get to see it 1st for ready made & custom made u see it later after u pay. Just have make sure your tailor has good workmanship

thnx gim, found the manual from internet. It did mentioned about not compatible to dimmer or regulator. http://kdk.jp/product_detail.aspx?id=152 I guess I will just stick with normal on/off switch. heng ahhh ... thank you.

hmmm this doesnt sound comforting to me ... mine downstair neighbor's baby seem to have medical condition also. Anyway, sound like HDB double standard really exist though permit mentioned 9-5pm weekdays. wow your owner must be screaming everyday Based on mutual agreement, my current buyer allow me to stay (rent) max 2 months after handover. But wanna to avoid doing that. chit-chat a bit, anyone know whether any hdb build with "vacum" or gap between floor. So that noise is reduce. I know condo have something like that. Nowaday, new high end/class hdb bto like in amk, tanjung pagar (duxton Pinnacle) cost around $700k+, so just wonder whether they come with such feature. But I know mine definitely dont have
