  1. hahaha thrifty... i'll take that as a compliment~ yea over the course of wedding, house hunting and reno, i've become more and more "thrifty"......
  2. if you rent 3-room flat from HDB, say around $1200 per month. then for 3 years, $1200 x 3 x 12 = $43200. this is money going down to drain. not worth the effort at all...
  3. haha.... the one i saw that time was the smaller one (similar to ikea's udden). Ikea's udden is $129 and the one i saw at Howard Storage was $169 or something like that...
  4. but in terms of work scope... definitely more than some 5-rm or EM~ cos you have a lot of customized items
  5. still not big hahaha... it's more than 1500 sqft leh, that's almost 3x the size of my parents' home and we squeezed 3 bedrooms in it btw, your cat is very pretty! if you ask me, i'll say, don't spend extra on carpentry just to house them what if you wanna change washer/dryer next time and they don't fit into the space nicely? and i was thinking... dryer will generate heat, so the open type like the last photo is still fine, but dun think keeping them conceal on 3 sides is a good idea... my $0.02 and... nice trap that you have~
  6. hmmmm but one of the reasons to hack the wall is to let the wind comes in, rite? so if put glass.... defeat the purpose liao~
  7. wah bro you're like pouring your frustration out...
  8. hahahaha... it could also be becos yours is a big project, so he can afford give you more freebies
  9. are DBSS bound by the same set of rules? or they have a different kind of regulations since they are like "hybrid" of EC and HDB?
  10. i have to agree there is only certain extend they can throw in freebies without hurting their margin. when we do building projects at work, we also roughly have an idea how much things can contractor throw in for free... there is no free lunch in this world... dun feel bad, actually i think Henry's quote is quite reasonable. for things that i checked quotations with direct suppliers (like windows, glass sliding doors etc), he is willing to match their prices, if he can't match, he will tell you frankly and ask you to go ahead with direct supplier. but i found that his mark-up is not more than $100 as compared to going direct~ so i feel is quite ok leh... one thing about him is that his quote is already very realistic, so if you ask for more stuff, he will request you to top up... but frankly, if one has budget constraint, then one must weigh what are the "must have" and "good to have". i would rather pay less and forego the "good to have" in many cases
  11. but i'm a cheapo person~ things that pple said not ex i also find ex sometimes.... hahahaha if i remember correctly, the price of kitchen trolley is like ikea's + $30~40 dollars.
  12. i agree. since it's built by private developer, better check with them directly. my guess is, lazybum will have a good chance of installing better induction hob...... btw i forgot, why you wanna replace your gas hob huh?
  13. haha i dunno why also... i blamed it on the bad weather just before CNY
  14. hey bro, i think your new layout has improved a lot from the previous one! Kitchen: in the previous layout, i found the place where the sinks come out look really weird, now this has been solved. That half-height wall: at first i also thought that wall will be good. now that you mentioned it, i think what mae and your dad advised is very true. hacking a wall sometimes does make drastic improvement to the entire house. i also hacked the wall of the common room. results: the house has become much brighter and VERY windy (sometimes, too windy ). making that wall half height makes the kitchen kinda "open concept"... nice! MBR: this new layout is better. the old layout will make the room look crowded and appear smaller. hmmmm i guess is still okie cos there is still a full height wall blocking right in front of the stove. and i guess the wind will most likely come in from the half height wall side, so wind will be blowing the "oil" towards inside of the kitchen. maybe it will help to shift the stove *slightly* more inside towards the corner and install a good hood~
  15. wah the shops are really jialat! if they don't have the model, at least they should inform you rite~! we checked all items right after delivery, so if anything is wrong or if there is any defect, can find out immediately and get it changed.
  16. for me, how to decide the storage compartment is from actual usage experience. anything i complain about in my previous home, i will want it in my new home~ it's okie la... there are many pple here using contractors who don't have 3D (myself and supersimon included). All turn out to be okie mah~ i don't find it risky at all, though it would be good if you are someone that is good in visualising things without any help~ i did some Google Sketchup myself... Google Sketchup is good... very useful! free and user friendly also if uncle gives you 3D perspective, you can photocopy/scan and colour it yourself... hahaha
  17. hahaha yea we just met downstairs actually i wanna ask if you wanna come up, but quite late liao, should be time for you to go home this Sat the Ikea folks are coming to install stuff, you two can help me clean up hahahahahaha complete quotation is good. my fren showed me 2 quotations of similiar price for his reno, he thought ID A is more ex than ID B, but i pointed out all the items that ID B is missing, only then he realised ID A is a much better deal~ have you booked wedding dinner package? that is the RDS (rate determinating step)
  18. no la i went to harbourfront one... i also won't go parkway cos too far for me the kitchen trolleys are displayed right outside the entrance, not inside the shop~ not only reglxt, i also said not cheap but looks good though~
  19. water heating up has nothing to do with pressure... this one is storage heater, of course you need to switch it on earlier to allow the water to heat to the desired temperature and hot enough for your shower. if water is not hot enough, basically you need to mix more water from the storage heater as compared to when the water is hot. maybe mixer not good? hmmm. how about the cold water line to shower set?
  20. it's going to be short and narrow... eiks... the 2 drawers in the middle is 120cm wide, the panel is 120cm too, so that's why i said i doubt it will look nice... let's see how it goes since i have no say in this anyway haha it's almost the same colour as my bedframe... i think no one can notice such small difference in colour~ hahaha
  21. i cook often but i don't find Blum necessary. if you don't cook... might as well don't use
  22. theoretically yes... but also good to start thinking earlier... else when you want to buy furniture etc you'd also have headache if colour scheme is not confirmed~ btw i forgot to ask... so what's the plan for your water heater now? storage heater?
  23. yea even kitchen sink also need to specify top mount or under mount, and take note on whether the location for tap is at the centre or at the side of the sink~
  24. depends on the item i guess... like normally carpentry comes in last so you can choose later~ but you have a lot of items so maybe your contractor needs more time to do... haha
