  1. I believe they are normally design to mount on walls, not ceiling. Safety wise, wall mount is definitely safer because the weight will be acting on the wall. I am not an expert but I have replace 3 different brands of water heater; Everhot @ my parents home, Ariston @ my home and Joven @ my colleague's home. All have brackets that are wall mounted. But someone had done a ceiling mount. See below.
  2. Try this: http://www.hdb.gov.sg/cs/infoweb/residential/living-in-an-hdb-flat/home-maintenance/professional-help-and-contractors You do not need to change the door, just the hinges & screws. Since you mention the screw cap is broken, if it is on the side of the frame, then it is tricky and more work. If on the side of the wooden door, then will be easy. You can also try your the neighbourhood handy man, probably cheaper than those listed on HDB link.
  3. You should check the manual what it means when red & green are lit. Also, you sure it is not your mixer tap having a problem? Maybe internal mixer mechanism is permanently stuck in cold water position.
  4. Your assumption on Earth is correct. Yes, if there are 2 yellow/green cables, squeeze both into the earth slot. Would be more better if you post some pictures for the other questions. Generally, for Q1 & Q2, you are right but we don't know if the White cable is LIVE or Black cable is Neutral. You will need to figure it out or at least before you disconnect from the old switch, you can see where they are connected to (to be sure). For Q4, I think they are for the LED indicator on the switch.
  5. I don't think that the contractor asking for a 10% deposit before providing detail quotation is a standard practice. Like Hwmook mention, look for another contractor.
  6. Was looking for replacement window grill lockset. Could not find in regular hardware shop but found it at Lea Huat Hardware You can give it a try but have to go down personally & bring your sample.
  7. TS, has the problem been resolve? Very curious what is the causing the sound.
  8. Yes, it is normal. If you don't like, ask the carpenter to cover it with a strip behind one of the door. But with this, you will always need to open the door without strip before you can open the door with the strip.
  9. Your ID is being professional & giving you his 'professional' advice. All appliances sold in Singapore must be tested before they are being sold locally but then, we still can find some things sold here without approve stickers. That being said, the stickers can be fake too. When hunting for appliances for my home some years back, I normally go to industrial park to shop and there are some appliances that are marked 'For Export'. We can still buy them but they are not test/approve by PSB (not sure if it is still call PSB), so user use at his/her own risk. Of course, the price is different. Then again, an appliance that is tested & approve does not mean it is 100% safe. There was a 'stop use' notification issue by one of the branded hob/hood manufacturer just this week in Singapore.
  10. I thought it sound like a trumpet, so maybe the storage tank is overpressure and the vent valve is releasing the excess pressure. You might want to try switching off the (electricity) water heater after bathing.
  11. If the wall is partition board, your ID has a point. But if wall is concrete, your father is right. What's the point of being an ID but what he/she design & build is not practically useable.
  12. Normally yes if you have engage a main contractor (and electrician & painter are hired by him). Otherwise, if you have DIY and engage electrician & painter yourself, then you may be in a spot. IMO, the electrician workmanship very lousy or he simply don't care. Your third picture is not acceptable to me. Hopefully your painter is for forgiving.
  13. Can hardly imagine what you are saying is real. Maybe your neighbor's false ceiling is indeed amplifying the slightest noise but even the sound of putting toilet seat down can be heard is unimaginable? But since your neighbor also agree that you are not creating excessive noise, best to raise this with HDB and invite them to come & listen and see what they have to say. Your unit is within in the 'warranty' period.
  14. The floor actually look OK. Maybe you can check with your contractor if they can do a chemical wash on the floor tiles and patch up the grout lines. Mine is worst, the previous owner had use anti-slip mat, so there are black stain where the mats were. My contractor tried acid also cannot get ride of it. It is the common toilet, so I let it be. My master bedroom toilet, I hack wall & floor b'cos they had a bathtub in it (roll eyes).
  15. The shaft you circle is correct. At the end, it should be a square. You can buy a proper handle from the neighbourhood hardware shop to slot into the square end and close the valve. Just take a pic and show it the hardware shop seller. If using a spanner/wrench, you need to be more careful. It's brass, so it's soft and will damage easily. Normally there is a valve below each tap to let us cut off water to that tap, so you don't need to cut off supply to the whole house. But you mentioned it is an old house, so not sure if it's available. You'll need to look below the sink. Good luck.
  16. Partition board do not like water, so I don't think it is the best material to use at this location. Maybe you can consider using acrylic or Perspex, they are water tolerant. And you have no more headache in future.
  17. Just go to any small furniture factory in industrial park, they should be able to build it for you. The only difficult part is the perforated wood for the front. Don't think it is available but can always drill holes on a plywood to achieve it.
  18. I got a set of those but don't look good. Was just hoping maybe someone had seen it before. Thanks
  19. Can't the contractor flush it? Or make a gradual slope? If you are also re-tiling the kitchen floor, they should have make it into a perfect flush with the living floor tiles.
  20. Hi, One of the rubber feet for my dining chair has split open, so the metal feet is touching the ground. Does anyone know where I can get new rubber feet?
  21. Steady.... mystery solved. Good for you. By the way, you DIY?
  22. I don't have contact for the acrylic installer but would like to share with you how I did mine (DIY). If you want to use acrylic and able to DIY, then go look for those company that make signboard. Give them the size and they can supply you (cut to size). But you will have to drill and cut the thread for the screws on your gate. I use the acrylic for my parents home. I paid about S$30 for the cut-to-size clear acrylic but after sometime, the acrylic will have scratches and crack if children bang on them. When I did it for my own home, I decided not to use acrylic. Instead the material I use as replacement for the acrylic is the plastic corrugated sheet. Can be cut with a pen knife. Since it is plastic, it is water tolerant. It is cheap (S$9 for 80cm x 100cm size), so I can replace anytime. I bought from Popular (assorted colors available), arts & craft department. Once cut to size, I use a small screw driver to poke holes and use black cable tie to fix it to the gate. One comment on the picture you attach is that the acrylic may be too high. Good to guard against water but if homeowner locks the gate and accidently drop the key inside (between wooden door & gate), I think most people do not have arms long enough to reach in and pick them up.
