  1. i think i will be using more than 1 contractor for my upcoming reno.. 1 for my masterbed room raised flooring...at least 1 more for the rest of the house..may have 1 more for my wardrobe/s.. most importantly...you must know what needs to be done 1st.. and of course...the co-ordinating work can be quite tiring... but if you can confident of doing the co-ordinating..then why not?
  2. my feng shui master told me to keep my salt jar open leh.. it is supposed to put inside my masterbed room... just curious....if its closed..then how can it interact with the environment to help you?
  3. almost all the contractors i asked seem to be able to do it...with laminate finish and internal white pvc.. if they quote you $50-$55 per sq ft...might as well let systemind do! theirs is a 60cm x 60cm module, which is 1.97ft x 1.97ft = 3.88sqft... 3.88 sqft costs $160 at systemind..which is only $41.23 per sqft! ask the contractor go fly kite! solid rubber wood cost lesser than their laminate!
  4. is it? how much contractors quoted you? i was quoted abt $30-$35 per sq ft by contractors using solid plywood and laminates...
  5. hi bro...most contractors i asked does it in solid plywood with laminate.. have you asked your designer/contractor?
  6. i have been to the showroom at marina square..and i am impressed. they use solid rubber wood and the build quality is excellent. asked for the quote from the lady and was quoted abt $5k+ for the master bedroom. will be seriously considering the offer.. wonder if anyone has any contacts to make this using solid wood instead of using plywood. most contractors i have asked use solid plywood.
  7. i think it is just a matter of installing a relay... my parents's house has 2 switches for the lights at the stairwell...1 at the bottom..1 at the top...u can choose either to on the stairwell lights.
  8. i dont have good experiences with ceiling fans from my pri sch and army camp days...ceiling fans are useless! but i think it has improved a lot...and my wife die die want ceiling fans.. do ceiling fans give us specs like rotation speed or power rating etc etc?
  9. so the mechanical key will work as a bypass in case the digital password doesnt work? is it possible to duplicate the keys?
  10. looking forward to more pics...cos your layout almost the same as mine
  11. very difficult to hide wires..thats of course.. but dont you feel that having a few wires all heading for that 1 plug more messy than having a 1m track to aim for? i can put my tv plug on the extreme left of the eubiq...the dvd player plug on the extreme right...the speakers just to the right of the tv plug...so on and so forth.. to each his own i guess.
  12. neat! can the area below your living romm window be used as storage?
  13. i would put that eubiq system below my tv console because i would expect a lot of electrical appliances there, dvd player, amplifier, tv, speakers, ps3 etc etc..some of them have their power cables coming out of the left of the appliance..some on the right... if my power point is concentrated at 1 spot, all my plugs will have to head that direction...i can forsee the mess (like what i have in my parents house now!). criss crossing of wires is inevitable. bundling them up is also not an option because it will be hard to label which wire is for which... so yeah..thats why i will get that system. man i sound like a salesman for eubiq!
  14. i beg to differ slightly. it depends on what kind of contractor you are getting. if he is a carpentry carpenter..he is not going to bother about your wiring stuff. vice versa. however, an ID will have to oversee everything in the renovation process, including the carpentry, tiling, wiring, painting etc etc. so its like getting a manager for the renovation. anything you look for him. correct me if im wrong..just like architect and engineer. the architect designs and consults the engineer for the feasibility on the load capacity and everything else..the engineer builds it. the architect will just go look see look see once in a while to make sure it turns out like what he designs. just my 2 cents.
  15. agree.... if a couple intends to stay childless and do not have anyone else staying with them..i dont see a problem of hacking off all the partition walls and making it like a big studio apartment! i think that will be cool! do consider your lifestyle needs..do you need that extra room for whatever reason? if no..then i dont see why you shouldnt hack it off anyway. as for resale value...i think its pretty much up to luck. if you happen to meet a buyer who absolutely loves your flat for its walless-ness..bingo! just my 2 cents.
  16. im no electrician..but my parent's house (a double storey masionette) has 2 swtiches for the lighting for the staircase, 1 at the bottom, 1 at the top. so it may be just a relay thing.
  17. thats a good question. i have no experience with this..but what if the sofa is really too big to be delivered? sell it off to someone else? or has the sofa company got to think of a way to get it into your house? do they have any legal obligations to be able to deliver? i have this thing abt modular furniture...they have joints which usually make them weaker compared to a 1 pc furniture, or being modular..they can be separated..and i hate that cos after you sit a while, it might move apart...got to push them together again...
  18. thanks a lot. do update on how the problem is resolved..
  19. im definitely gonna get eubiq also... can i check with you..your $2k includes of how long of track and how many adaptors?
  20. 1st thing that came to my mind...good photographic skills! the end of your living room where the curtain is is a curve?
  21. i also firmly believe wood & water/moisture dont go together. i rather not take the risk with laminated, solid or whatever kind of wood no matter how good the workmanship is said to be UNLESS a 10 year warranty is given for that particular piece of furniture/fitting. its glass, metal and cement for me in the bathroom.
  22. hmm...thanks for the advice! will take the matter up further to discuss possibilities with my future ID/contractor.
  23. sorry to hear about your bad experience... care to share which other company supplies the same system at a cheaper price?
