Noguchi is a very famous designer piece from Herman Miller. It is designed by Isamu Noguchi and is one of his iconic works. Just google Noguchi.

My dining lights from Germany arrived today. This is what greeted when I reached home. What a F***ing big box! Almost 1 metre high. After being slapped with the astronomical shipping cost, I am glad I didn't try to Vpost this. Thankfully the company I used offered free shipping.

Thanks Jon. Yesterday I went to NTUC and I was looking at the cleaning detergent section! OMG, so many different types. Bathroom Cleaner, Toilet Cleaner, Kitchen Cleaner, Kitchen and Bathroom Cleaner, Surface Cleaner, All Purpose Cleaner, Grease and Stain Remover... OMG. Surface cleaner can use as all purpose cleaner? Can all purpose cleaner replace bathroom and kitchen cleaner etc etc. See until blur. The only thing prob I won't need to do is to mop the floor, since my flooring is laminates, cannot have long exposure to water.

Hi Jon, Thank you! We really like the end look though we were not quite sure at first! But I wish I bought a smaller hob. This hob is huge! Btw, I just wanna ask. Usually contractors/IDs will include a thorough clean of the house before handover, but after that, do you guys do another cleaning of the house?

I went to Jimmy, MGL, D'Zander, Mega and November 11. November 11 - no brick and mortar shop, but an outfit helmed by a very friendly couple who would actually visit you at your unit to show you the swatches/samples etc. However, as they have no actual shop and they are a mobile shop with their swatches, their variety tend to be lesser. However, Debbie and Jo are very good in recommending fabrics etc to match your design. Prices are decent as well. But they couldn't provide what we wanted, which is just too bad, i guess. D'Zander - Went to their shop. No daylight, hence cannot really see how the look of the fabric is like against daylight. The shop is rather small and helmed by 3 staff, hence we felt we didn't have any space to actually go through the fabrics without them intruding on us, or checking on us, which in a way is service, but because we are v specific on what we want, we felt it would be better if we were left to browse on our own. They kept showing us fabric and telling us "this is v nice, that is v nice...". Not to mention their quote is actually one of the highest, which to me was surprising, because there is an incentive for her to give me a good deal (not convenient to reveal why), but in fact their quote for wooden blinds is 30% higher than another company who is using the exact same supplier, and 80% higher than our lowest quote for wooden blind. Jimmy - efficient salespeople but not exactly the most friendly. Asked her for similar fabric, she showed us what she had, and then told us that's all we had. But in the end, we looked around and found other fabric which we like and within the same type of pattern/design which we told her we are looking for, but she CHOSE not to show us, which is a bit funny. Quote is reasonable. Good thing is that she left us to browse and look through everything on our own. Mega - Have a good selection of the type of fabrics we want, but prices isn't the best. More expensive than the rest. Uncle is friendly and gave us good advice on why we should just stick to the traditional curtains rather than the eyelet curtains/roman blinds etc. Not much impression on why we should go with him. MGL - was the last shop we visited. As we already had pictures of previous fabrics we've seen and quite like, we can show the salesperson (Ben) samples and he could bring out similar designs quite quickly, and even then, he left us on our own to go through the rest of the swatches in the shop, even through it is not really what we were looking for. He came back and checked on us now and then which we appreciate. Amazingly, his quote was the best of all the shops we have visited! Approx $1600 for all 4 rooms, including a set of wooden blinds. Very very reasonable. When we couldn't find the fabric we wanted for the living room, we actually showed him what we were looking for, and asked if he could check with his supplier! He very willingly agreed and as promised called us back the next working day to inform us of his findings!! Indeed the supplier had stock and we confirmed with him immediately!! Really really appreciate the extra mile he went for us to check with his supplier. Now I am waiting for my curtain installation! Will comment on workmanship etc after the installation!

We called our various furniture/electronics suppliers to arrange for delivery this weekend. One of our suppliers called us back and told us he cannot find our sofa! OMG. (1) Why must this happen so close to moving in date? (2) What the F*** happened to our sofa? How can the sofa just go missing like that? (3) I am going to be without a sofa! :curse: Gonna go to the shop later to sort out this issue.

I agree. I am the sort who likes prompt communication and will not be able to take it if I have to keep on chasing people.

I like my original craftstone wall... Being a neutral/brown colour lover, I love the colours and overall resort "feel" of the wall. However, when one of the IDs we met suggested painting white glossy paint over the original feature wall, we were sold on the idea. It's like the brick wall, but with an edge. Although we didn't engage that ID in the end, we hijacked the idea! We also reinforced the craftstone pieces which were loose. Here's the before and after look. The settee at the window was done my our carpenter, before the feature wall was painted. Not sure why the works was done in this order (since carpentry usually after painting), but as long as the painter did not dirty the new carpentry, we're okay with it.

Very nice!!! Love it! We're looking to do something similar in our balcony, but it's def too expensive for us. Prob will have to buy off the rack ones at Far East Flora.

I have seen quite a few houses which do not have top cabinets. BUT cost savings aside, you should definitely consider if you have sufficient storage space, esp for the next 5 years as well, as you grow your family.
-
JX83, if you have a good idea of the design you want and the type of look you are going for then juz go ahead and buy! Ultimately I think your ID should work with what you have bought, rather than you buying what they can work with. That's the mark of a good designer. if a designer tell me my pieces dun match and want me to change then I'll strike him off mylist immed.

Picture of the day... we found both items in the cupboard during the carpetry stage...

Yeah, it's been so long you know... like forever wondering when will it be all over? And to see the house take shape is definitely gratifying. Re the curtains... did you have any issue? What should we look out for? The curtain supplier told me that most ceilings are slightly slanted, so it's v difficult sometimes on their part as well to ensure the curtain looks "straight".

We finally confirmed our curtains after 3 rounds of shopping. We were very specific on the type of fabric we wanted in our house and went to many different shops in order to find the "correct" print and pattern. Everything is shaping up pretty nicely (I hope). If all goes well, handover will be this Thursday!
-
thanks mm! we're looking forward to the handover next week. things are speeding up for the big day and major appliances are moving in by sat. rooms are still left untouched, but that will be the next phase after we move in. there's still a lot of last min touchups to do: painting, electrical fixture adjustments, changing of locksets, etc. the dining lights we ordered have landed in SG but not at our place. just got the opennet installation letter..., wish they wrote to us a month earlier, so we can install that fibre optic cable dammit!!! luckily we had the foresight to install cat6 cables. 8| rr

Hi there! Welcome to Bt Batok! I am just wondering which side you're facing? The Nature Park/Toh Tuck, or closer to YISS or the 2 busy junctions? My in laws are in the same estate as well, hence I know the area very well. Please show some pictures of the view!

I didn't know near police station there got slanted blocks and blocks with weird shape! Esp since those blocks are rather old! Anyway, re your furniture placement, are u sure you wanna knock out your storeroom? I think storeroom v important for storing items such as empty luggages, spare chairs and tables etc... although you have storage space, these items may not fit inside the storage cabinets you have around. Def strongly suggest you keep the storeroom.

Molecule or Lifestory - both in Great World City. Molecule is on the more ex side - prices usually in 4 digits. Lifestory, if on discount, have pretty decent prices. You might also wanna take a look at Muji which have some nice carpets as well. Saw it in the Paragon branch.

It's really what you wanna believe in, right? All the bedrooms in my marital home have ceiling fans and I am installing a ceiling fan in my MBR as well.
