  1. 2 women in same household is not peaceful, especially if not mother and daughter relationship. Avoid this outcome. It is perfectly acceptable for u to seek own happiness, own lovenest. No need feel guilty. You dad had his time when he was younger, now is your turn. I suspect dad worries is that.. he fear u throwing him out, wad if relationship dun work out.. he will be lonely, and no place to stay. Try to address these concerns, like propose alternative living arrangements. Old ppl.. cannot be reasoned with. Whatever good idea u come out.. they will always think they eat more salt than u.. and that whatever best solution u propose.. they think is from a "never walk jiang hu" person. Bear this in mind, when u try to analyse their thots.
  2. OTP is issued by the seller. Only Seller can authorise extension. If u do not exercise by end of OTP period.. ur $ bye bye. Agent tell u ok is not valid, must get agreement in writing by seller. This is not paranoid. this is chop carrot head.
  3. Firstly.. I qualify by saying.. it depends on the ID theme. but.. it shd be dark coloured.. like wood.. to simulate a counter top, or it should contrast with the surrounding wall colour. Solid wood = teak board? This will cost more than granite, unless contractor providing some cheap wood. For me.. I would determine the furniture theme first, then follow the colour scheme of the TV console, or wardrobe surface, etc. If wanna be safe. go for laminate finish. Every few yrs.. change laminate to match decor.
  4. the govt is encouraging ppl to marry SG ladies! Even if it's not about Sg ladies.. it's about creating citizen babies. The policies are pretty clear, and everyone plays by the same set of rules. If for some reason, she fails to get PR.. can u imagine how big that problem will be then, for everyone? Til now, I have not seen any compelling reason why HDB will grant u an exception.
  5. Depends what trips. If is the ELCB, or now known as RCB, (the one with the push test button), then... only the service ppl know what to do. If is the tiny MCB that trip, then is consider a overload situation. Have to turn off other appliances. Oven requires same type of wiring as a water heater. 15A.
  6. U were probably shown something called a "thermistor", which is used to sense the outdoor unit temp. Turn dark colour is normal, as is is made of copper and exposed to hot/cold. If I am not mistaken, if this sensor detect outdoor unit too hot, it wil shut down the whole AC. No such thing as spoil affect motherboard. Motherboard got many self protection circuits which will show fault code in the LED blinking. If use reputable aircon company do servicing, they wun anyhow say.. cos the aircon distributor will take action against them.
  7. Err.. water heater is suppose to direct connect to the switch, not go through the plug + socket. But if use plug + socket.. then the fuse need to use the 15A one.. 13A fuse confirm testing the upper limit to blow.
  8. I think repairman may not be correct dignosis. If clean, and then later 2 weeks leak again, the problem is due to coil choke. Need to do chemical cleaning of the coil, not just normal cleaning, cos inverter evaporator coil very dense. Toshiba motherboard do not cost so much, Mit or Daikin cost ard $700.. and that is retail price. I had similar symptoms before.. and this is what happens.. coil is choked.. not much air passes through the coil.. so sensor think.. not enough aircon gas.. so tell compressor to pump more gas. The incoming gas pipe become super cold, and start to sweat before the choked coil, resulting in dripping OUTSIDE of the drip tray, and cause water to drip out of casing. If motherboard spoil, sure got error code on the LED light, resulting in some blinking combination. Your room temp will also go haywire.. either not cold or SUPER cold. Compressor also dun cost so much. If motherboard spoil, why suggest change the compressor. I tink this repairman not very sure. If u want very zai company familar with Toshiba, ... u call this company called Noris Engrg & Air-Conditioning Pte Ltd Check yellow pages for contact details. Their troubleshooting skill solid cos do a lot of condo installations. Eh.. inverter aircon.. if use daily.. need to chemical clean at least 1 time a year, cos the evaporator coil super dense, easily choke.
  9. Just a word of advice.. Specialist waterproofing companies charge a huge premium, and it's hard to claim on their warranties. There is nothing better than a conservative design, which in Singapore is documented in the BCA CONQUAS series of handbooks. By adopting CONQUAS practices, even average workmanship will not result in waterproofing problems. Since waterproofing is normally followed by general renovation work such as tiling/painting, might as well get the main con to do the waterproofing rather then direct contract with specialist waterproofing contractors.
  10. Gloss = defect / dust highly visible. Matt = Magnet for dirt/dust. harder to clean. Preference = Matt but a pattern that dust not easily visible.
  11. Intercom is seperate wiring from normal internal phone line wiring. Call transfer.. might as well shout to other resident " your call!" Tel phone wiring is 2 wire. If got 2 lines such as a fax, then another wiring is requred. The TEL DB box is where the fax wire will connect to the 2nd line. These days.. ppl all use HP. The home line is substantially to communicate with the maid or kids. Hardly touch the home phone these days.
  12. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Methylated_spirit Buy from hardware store, in recycled beer bottle, or if u really got a lot to do.. they sell in tin can container. Is the same stuff used as tape head cleaner, CD lens cleaner.
  13. One Stop place would be Nanyang signcraft along Serangoon Rd near junction of Lavender Street. Is a workshop cum showroom cum sales office, so can look see various possibilities. I find that with signages.. is best to know what u really want, then go to the shop, cos given the options.. if not sure.. is going to be very confusing.
  14. When "poke" hole for butterfly plug, the hole is suppose to be drilled slightly smaller, and the butterfly plug shd have an "interference fit", meaning to say.. the butterfly plug need to be sort of jammed into the partition wall, rather than loose. If screwing in and the screw gets tight, likely is due to the screw being too big for the butterfly plug. Ideally, shd be a self tapping screw, and the opening up of the butterfly wings result in tightening, not the screw biting into the plug. Partition walls are non load bearing, meaning.. at most is lamps or picture frames. Normally, the quantities are not much. I have not seen any application tool for butterfly plugs.
  15. your place look like new condo. There are tons of MCST regulations governing such external fixtures. Better to check with the managing agent what can/cannot do.
  16. If the marble got dull because of lifestyle for 2 yrs, then.. even after polish will also become dull at the same rate. I find that more expensive marble .. due to their hardness.. retains shine better than cheaper marble. Compressed marble is hopeuless at retaining shine except for really light use. I have given up the idea of a shiny marble floor. If I am going to redo the floor for the shiny look, I will go for homogeous tile. Look at shops that recently reno... most are using homo tiles already. Vivo main lobbies are using compressed marble.. look at the chemical stains and dullness. Shangri la + Grand Park Plaza.. high quality marble look so nice!
  17. Scratches.. will appear like white hairs. Dullness will appear like faded patches. So.. based on this rationale.. shd go for light coloured natural stone looking paterns. Avoid single solid colours becuase any imperfections will be obvious. then again.. we may not be of the same specie.. so.. one specie food.. maybe another's poison.
  18. Ikea kitchens are all costed by foot run. so smaller kitchen will be proportionately cheaper?
  19. Suggest u add a new consideration. What looks nice when brand new unused, dun mean look nice when got use. For example.. stainless steel look nice, but if got 1 scratch, will be very obvious. Glass backing also nice, but seems like very good friend of cooking grease. I am using those country look tiles.. very ununiform pattern, so dirty also look like the weathered look. So I suggest not to use a sleek finish, but to go for something that is ununifom like granite/marble/ earthern look. But of course.. this must tally with overall kitchen theme.
  20. I have lived open concept for more than 10 yrs, with heavy cooking, and still do. If it was my call, I wld put a door, probably, sliding frameless glass. Open concept means.. Cooking fumes enter living room area, furniture gets greased more often than I prefer. Also... dun like the lingering smell after dinner, or when inlaw come over boil some ancient voodoo recipe for 4 hrs. I have extractor fan at the kitchen, but this dun help if cross wind blows from kitchen into living. Extractor fan works best in enclosed enviroment such as food court kitchen area where got no windows.
  21. I am facing the same problem. Apparently.. 30mA is the law for RCB. But... to lower the sensitivity by using a higher rating RCB of 50mA may mean electricution. http://www.aelgroup.co.uk/hb/hb040.htm Is defininately due to lightning. Maybe the RCB is old and overly sensitive. Can try changing to another one, but I dun thnk any licensed electrician will install a less sensitive one. I not implemented any solution yet.
  22. Exposed is normally done for add on type of installation. If u are going to retile whole bathroom, might as well do concealed. Exposed pipes love to attact soap scum.
  23. No way to cleanly remove them. Is to use flat scewdriver and hammer/wedge them out, which means the PVC box also will get spoilt. Then need to use putty and paint to cover up any holes/ scar marks. U can try using a hammer and screwdriver and hammer the nail loose, but that is likely to create more cracks.
  24. It is obvious that this lady has been evicted, either by a landlord or court baliff. The police did not assist her, and yet threaten to charge her for traspass, only goes to show.. she has done something wrong in the first place. Buglary.. the bugler dun normally remove everything in the house. Even garung kuni ppl also wun take everything, come to think of it.. if is gurung kuni... padlock will take.. can sell as scrap metal.
  25. Buy a cheap wooden cot and use cable ties to tie the side rail to the bed. Bed guards are all tucked under the matteress for support. Wood cannot offer the same strength as plastic or metal guards. U can do a seach on US websites like Sears, Kmart, Target, Walmart. If it's not available in the US, chances are it dun exist.
