  1. I thought accordion mirrors? Sure for lamps? If yes we will head there tomorrow after work!
  2. Yeah but most of the damage is restricted to the kitchen and bathrooms. The other hacking are the windows and cornices in the living room. No built-in wardrobe to hack also. So Mr E will stay in the common room first and the contractor will have to concentrate on 1 toilet. Now we hope the living room and bedroom floor tiles need not be hacked so that we can just do laminate overlay.
  3. I saw cheaper ones on TB but I have no idea on their quality. Will be buying one soon and then we can all do a comparison. I think the heavy one should be more authentic but we are ok with a lighter one to minimize on shipping charge haha
  4. For us, we will probably spend at least 1 full day to clean as much as we can and then shift in immediately at the next weekend. Actually my Mr E will be staying in first during the reno phase. No doubt it will be inconvenient but I trust him to be the QC for the whole works and also to build rapport with the tiler, electrician, carpenter etc.
  5. No website but you have to email to Amcon and look for May Ho (amconexpress@hotmail.com). We haven't progressed to the stage to actually buy something from TB and ship back using Amcon. Aim to do 1 soon, maybe after our 1st HDB appointment as we have no place to store the new stuff!
  6. Haha not yet! Still trying to compile my shopping list to do in 1 shot. But I saw on TB under FAQ, there is a picture showing the payment screen whereby there is a VISA icon right at the end of all the Chinese bank logos etc. choose that option for international CC (if my understanding of the Chinese FAQ is correct!)
  7. I am so duh! TB accepts international credit cards now so I can buy it myself and just use Amcon to bring the stuff over now is the chance to practice my rusty Chinese!
  8. Thanks a lot and this really clarifies much! RMB50 equates to around S$10ish so for smaller / cheaper items, it now doesn't make sense to buy from TB have to relook at our shopping list!
  9. Yes that is what I suspect so. I was using 1 cubic metre as a comparison and Amcon still makes more sense. You seem to be looking out for furniture on TB too? If yes, same here So many things are made in China now that it makes sense to just go straight to the source ya? Am trying to make our first TB purchase by end of this month to familiarize ourselves. We are so used to buying from US/UK/EUR and it is really a struggle to switch to Mandarin sites!
  10. Are you going to paint over the brick wall? If yes, maybe the affected area will not be obvious after a coat of paint?
  11. I read on kim76's Tblog that there is Peeka and Hoyoyo. I am trying to find out the differences in cost among these 2 and Amcon. Very cheem...
  12. Hi has anyone used May from Amcon's service before? She said Amcon's charges RM50 per link if she orders on our behalf (might as well since we don't own any China-issued credit card). But is it per web-shop link or per item link?
  13. Wah your Chinese is power, man! These will do but we will try to 'break' the color in to make them look vintage. Will mount them in the room
  14. Kohl's but you need an US-issued credit card and an US residential or company address for them to deliver
  15. We tried but the website cancelled our order. Asked their customer service and they said they do not ship to such consolidator addresses. Seems like they are only interested in US business!
  16. Accordion lamp by Makanology, on Flickr Yesterday and today, Mr E and I were defeated. Defeated by a US website that refuses to accept international credit cards & Paypal and that it also refuses to ship to a freight forwarding address :bangwall: We just wanna get 2 of the above lamps and have been researching for exactly a month Can't seem to find this on TB and Alibaba. The ones on eBay are the real vintage deal which I think need lots more restoration work, while the Amazon ones are retailing at over USD100 excluding shipping. Anyone has any idea where else can we find 2 identical pieces??
  17. My HTB would so love your smoking area. He is inspired by it and trying to convince me to do it for our 3 roomer but to no luck
  18. Nice! And the fridge is, omg! Gong Xi Fa Cai!
  19. An Huat sounds similar to Huat Ah - must be a sign LOL. Thanks lots
  20. Hi Gong Hee Fatt Choy! Yeah CNY is also quite boring for me and my HTB, not much visitation to do and surviving on instant noodles (my favorite!) and Malay/Indian food. Anyways we have been looking high and low for the tiles in your last picture above - can you share which shop you have seen them?
  21. I am so hopeless. I have shortlisted the clocks and lights for the house and Mr E agreed with my choices. Yet we cannot come to a decision on the laminate flooring color! Mr E nagged at me as well "大年初一,你在看钟?"
  22. Pika wishing all a Happy Lunar Snake Year! by Makanology, on Flickr Gong Hee Fatt Choy to all!
  23. Everything is looking good! Like the storage space in the living room; just makes everything more organised and easier to find right?
