  1. for the benefit of all, apple's thread of marble table is at this thread: "http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?automodule=blog&blogid=284&&st=60 http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...=2442&st=40 hi hello88, paid $1,288 for the 4ft table and six chairs" but hor, apple, can give us shop name and location?
  2. v.hive web: http://www.vhive.com.sg/storelocator.html add that i went to (1 thing gd is that the sales guys dun bother you, and not many ppl there so not crowded and u can take your time to view, look, feel and try, ever saw customers even sleep onto the bed to try ) Jurong Mega Mall 21 Yung Ho Road (opp. former Tang Dynasty) 6264 7865 10am to 10pm daily
  3. i suggest u go to vhive at yuan ching rd (jurong) where they hv bigger showroom and display more furnitures there. i still like the elmwood range. so far the other places that i went to that hv elmwood, are either too expensive (really ex and top grade or workmanship) or dun hv quality, meaning either poor workanship or design. not yet leh. still sourcing around. mayb hb want to rob those old kopitiam of their marble table mayb apple can help us. apple dear, where u get your marble table? wat's the size and hw much izt?
  4. i think at v.hive, there is a corner where they sell elm wood type of furniture and the design is like zen design. i've seen those and find that they are quite solid and hv a nice wood smell. but their prices for elm wood is not that cheap, mid high range type. but i find worth buying if you looking for solid type of furniture but cannot afford vy expensive type. initially wanted to buy their dining table as i like it being simple and solid as they seems to be better den those veneer type. but hb wanted to buy marble table. he ah pek, like old kopitiam feeling of dining...
  5. one advice, whichever cable you trace, use a small sticker label, label it and stick it around the cable. like that you will hv lesser headache. i m not in electrical lines but i got hands-on experience and this is my experience when i do cabling and re-wiring works ranging from pcb to big switchboards and i also learn from my electrical wiring men.
  6. wah i tot im the oni 1 kana such thing... i fax them my flr plan and a lady called me back, ask a few basic question and fax me a quote that's anyhw scribbled on my fax. its ok to me coz everytime we see this type in our line of work. den she oni quoted me mit inverter, mit & daikin non-inverter as i require 2 sets and i want to look at the different combination and option. den when i call her to ask if got toshiba brand coz i prefer dat, guess wat she say? "do you know where you are calling or not, miss? this is B@st T@ch leh. we offer mit oni leh. u go back and consider den call me, if you ask for so many brands and i quote you but you oni want 1 brand rite, den i will be wasting my time to quote so many for you rite?" ????! juz imagine my shock i really got nothing to say lor duno i buy air-con from her or she buy from me so i juz say ok lor, i will talk to my hb and when we decide, i get hb to call her lor. den i told my hb, my hb more ngeow den me, straightaway shoot many technical + installation questions to her until she duno hw to answer. den hb tell her dat we will consider and call her back. hb den told me, this sales person technically not sound and like dun hv much experience for installation also. and after many feedbacks from here and other forums, hb told me to drop off this quote and their quote also not cheap.
  7. hi, stainless steel not really rust proof. it will still hv abit of spots here and there. juz sand or scrub + wash once in a while can already. and it depend on type of usage, usage frequency and place of usage. juz hv to live with it. its galvanised steel den can withstand rust provided its properly galvanised. but such galv. metals only use in impt areas, eg. hangers, rods, chiller pipes, etc. and not at hm coz too ex liao.
  8. hi, i think you should get them to change it. reason being (the 1st pic metal handle), if my guess is correct, normally these handle dun need to sand. if they sand it, its bcoz they must hv drop it and part of the metal edge is dented and they attempt to sand it to round off the dent so that customer will not notice it. reject it if you can, dun forget, you are paying, you hv the right. dun anyhw accept for sub-standard items coz once accept or signed, you will hv a hard time to get them to change, you will be at their mercy. pls refer to the following 2 threads i hv posted. do take lots of pics, document, record and file all your whatever that is to be amended properly to safeguard yourself. i hv went thru alot of big and small cases in constrn line in complains, rectification, LD, law cases of similar and other bigger scope of works, so as advise by my lawyers, black & white (nowadays pics with descriptions, date, time, + workers & ID or whoever the living souls in the pic is a even better explantions) helps to prove your case juz in case something goes wrong. " http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...c=9236&st=0 " "pls refer to this thread for "Help! We Engaged A Lousy Renovation Contractor!" http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10046 do all the necessary documentations juz in to protect yourself if the worst happen. you never know." glass and tiles cutter are similar, and they can even cut round shape with centre many odd shapes also can. its a vy vy simple job. so much easier then cutting pipes (whether big or small pipes). i had cut pipes using pipe cutting machine (by electric) and manual pipe cutting tools b4, so i know its easier to cut glass. glass cutting machine vy easy to use, so long you dun cut yourself, draw dimension properly, its a piece of cake. so no excuse for them. convince your hb/bf not to accept sub-standard stuffs. coz if accept them nw, you want to change if things start to fall apart, den you will incur more $$ and headache + inconvenience. my motto is always do things rite in the 1st try, so that dun hv to keep doing rectification, which is costly and problematic. if you are afraid of problms and hazzle of small items to change nw, juz imagine in days to cum, if things breakdown, you go get ppl to rectify, won't it cause another inconvenience again? for matte metal handle, usually, handmarks are not easily seen. but both are definitely going to hv scratches, they are not scratch proof. except that for matte ones, unless you look really close, if not, scratches are not easily seen. for glossy metal, u hv to keep it clean everytime. above is juz my views. hope its helpful to you.
  9. dun thank me la.. i oso benefit from here leh i juz hope there are more ppl who will share their experiences on the items that they hv used b4... and oso i know the money no enuf constraints with salaried workers like us, unless your family is rich, so i dun really fancy expensive items coz not enuf $$ for everything of coz, everyone of us wants to get the best, the most expensive things that can function with minimum hazzle but where got the $$ to furbish like dat? if got dat kind of $, dun hv to cum to renotalk liao, juz hire designer (i mean real ex those type of ID) to take care of everything can already, rite? wat we looking for are things that can perform wat its suppose to do and at an affordable price and of coz with minimum breakdowns etc. you can check out $money no enuf blog by MACE. he got vy gd tips on hsehold cleaning and maintenance items and experience. and the others who start to contribute to his blog is also vy helpful. do check it out at
  10. hi, do read these threads for air-con choices and some are with quotations that i hv obtained. check out the website that i hv posted coz they hv air-con retailers contact where you can: 1) call them for quote, 2) fax them your flr plan and get them to quote you via fax (if you too busy to go to their shops) http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10142 http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10171 http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10208 http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...5510&st=520 http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10125 http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10213 http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9487 http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9417 hope the above helps...
  11. ya, there are some. u hv to go there to look at them... really nice ones, no bluff.. MACE really got taste... he recomend one leh thank you... i oso copy & paste frm some other plc for the benefit of other forumers here... hope no copyrite issues here coz some other forums hv condusive and informative informations not found here and also some other forums can oni see see look look oni coz some forums nvr control their member like here where the admin did a great job the other forums hv retailers/sellers who post as forumers and start giving advice but generally pointing to certain shops and do mind you, those recommended shops dun sell items cheaply... eg. if someone tell you HN, BD etc. sells electronic stuffs cheaper den outside small shops, would you believe it? kinda hard rite? and worst, some specifically keep pointing to certain brands only (which are more ex and may not perform as gd as it cost) and discredit other forumers who try to recommend or post their experience on other brands and cheaper stuffs that they had used, and also try to shunt away from questions that some forumers experience eg. on breakdowns that they encounter, etc. but of coz, each has its own views... mine is gathered from knowledge and experience and compile from experiences from aunties and uncles who ever used b4. i dun like to anyhw recomend anything unless i use b4 or went to see b4, coz dun like to mislead others
  12. ok, there are retailers who try to cut corners to save $$. eg. they offer you system 3 at (est) $3.4k, generally the air-con mfgr specs will specify wat type of material to use, eg. for insulation, piping, etc. so they cut corners by finding something that qualify for the specs technically but the material could be inferior made or from china. no offence and biased against china products but some are like backyard plant where these products are of low quality, eg. no QC, R&D etc. these will be called alternative offer products in constrn line. so frm there, they can save coz they order in big bulk. eg. bulk order of armflex vs 'alternative products', juz imagine hw much they able to save! basically, for (eg.) $3.4k system 3, you are paying for armflex, and not any other alternative products, why would you settle for less? from my understdg, for this price, it can offer armflex, kflex etc already. whether its condo or HDB, residential air-con basically all the same. SO DO NOT SETTLE FOR LESS, unless they give you 2sets of system 3 at $3.4k the above is commercial reason. technical reason is that if you should use alternative inferior quality products, next time if got leakage, condensation, product deteriorte and require changing, den you will hv a big headache. a vy simple way to differentiate is to touch and feel both the products. i don't know the grey type is it the type i seen b4, coz i ever seen the grey type of insulation which feels like foam. cannot make it to my requirement and std. and also dun be bluff by retailers. air-con trunkings can be hidden in hdb units as well if one do hv cabinet, false ceiling etc. condo is becoz ppl pay $ for nice nice architect design which must incorporate the ultimate ***** different from other condos. usually theirs are not really concealed also. juz imagine if fully concealed, den if got leakage, hw? hack the whole false ceiling? the owner will sue the management until they die man... coz spend so much $ to buy hazzle condo meh? its juz dat in condo, the architect & m&e consultant had design the air-con routing nice nice already. if for those vy ex condo, their air-con are bigger size type, eg. VRV system (these are known as ducted unit) where ducting is used. different from split units.
  13. same here lor.. my boss super gd, give me all freedom to plan and manage my wk, always give us treat (and i mean the whole dept) although he's not owner of coy, talk to us like friend/uncle, got yearly increment, bonus, coy shares... of coz there are some black sheeps in coy who like to arrow ppl's back... but generally, which coy dun hv ... and oso can surf net freely... oni cannot anyhw download stuffs.. wait kana virus, den IT dept cum after me den die oredy lor
  14. actually its true... hate to change coy, esp if your current job environment is comfy.. for me, my 1st hm is office, 2nd hm den my own lovenest...
  15. dun worry, u r not the oni 1... i still dreaming of the things in the shop till nw... :~ see can psycho hb to buy some more other things or not
  16. these r pix i found online... tot post here to share with ppl abt their products, but gnee hong's products are defintely better made and hv gd workmanship. if you visited their place, den you will know. im saying this coz i find that its quite gd enough in SG. of coz if you visited china, juz like some ppl visited thailand, you find even better products with even better quality at much lower price there... but of coz one cannot compare like that la.. !!
  17. den suggest you choose a higer btu inverter system. not wise to choose non-inverter type as it will consume more electricity = more $$ if not, you can install 2 unit of inverter air-con **** rm and dining rm area. den which area you want to cool down, you juz on that air-con will do. but its best to get inverter air-con. you will hv more savings in long term and its environmental friendly. i hv a vy long hall + dinning rm + study rm and i hv chosen a higher btu inverter air-con to cool down the whole place.
  18. in the 1st place, you shldnt hv combine 2 rms to 1 if you want to save air-con elect bills. your air-con is design to cool the combined rm and if you juz want to cool part of the rm, and you tot of partitioning your rm to juz cool part of it, den it defeat your purpose of hving 1 big rm, m i rite? if your air-con installer did a correct caln for your big rm, den its suppose to cool the whole area, not juz a portion of the rm, even if you partition your rm, it will still wk on the whole area. that is the case whenever shop tenants or offices are partitioned which defers from original design, the air-con and fire protection sprinklers hv to change for that area. in another words, whether you partition it or not, the air-con will still work for the whole big rm instead of the partitioned area.
  19. well, i've been there and kinda bit disappointed coz theres only abt 10 booths occupy mainly by IDs, 1 blum cabinet retailer, 1 clipsal electrical switches retailer, 1 floor laminate/parquet retailer, etc. not as much as wat i've expected it to be. i think Marina Square is kinda small for such exhibition. !!
  20. Gnee Hong is at 77 Bencoolen Street, #01-01. Tel: 63388223 they are having removal sales as they are shifting on 11 Oct 2007 to: 6 Harper Road, #01-02, Leong Huat Building (near to Diamond Industry Building) I've visited them and definitely i'm WOW by their furniture. these are handmade from China and definitely of quality wood, workmanship and asthetic view. they exceeded in all field for every type of furniture i seen so far. but of coz, provided you like chinese and japanese style of furniture. they hv rosewood, tan mu, ji mu (chicken feather wood), ji mu etc. there are different category of wooden furniture. their funiture are those typical chinese china and japanese style of furniture. Living rm set Jewellery Chest Divider & Curio Display Cabinets Chairs more pix... Coffee Table Dining Table sets Side Table Study Desks TV Consoles they are having a sales from 20% to 50% depending on what items till 11 Oct 2007. ... hv brought jewellery chest from them...
  21. erm.. TPY, curtain cannot block air-con and help to save electricity la... it only add factor to the load require to cool your rm. to really save electricity, your rm size must be calculated and den with it, you den can size your air-con. i.e. choose the right size (in layman term, in air-con line its BTU) of air-con for that rm. so eg. if during day time, your curtain absorb the rm heat, and you on your air-con, the air-con will hv to cool the rm doubly hard coz the curtain contains the heat and will definitely be a heat factor. pls do not use hotel type of furbishing to hm coz hotel air-con runs on different system. they use central air-con, either VRV System (if area is not too big and there are cost savings in long term and also they want to look at whether they are expandabe juz in case of future expansion) or chiller system which are really big systems. heat load factor must be considered and allowance given. eg. whether rm has full length window which allow sun to shine in thus causing higher temp, the no. and type of ppl using the rm and the purpose of the rm (eg. older folks and younger kids require less cold air-con, if its a less activity rm it require lesser air-con, if rm meant for sleeping couples will tend to wear lesser thus require less air-con). In SG, we dun hv to think of seasonal changes but in other countries, such attritubes are considered. and when you on the air-con, try your best to close all window, and hv non-grilled type of door and close them as well. coz in this way, lesser heat enter the rm, the air-con sensor will not sense a higher heat in the rm and keep trying to cool it down which will end up with high electricity consumption. regular maintenace after 1st year of installation is recommended.you can ownself do regular mthly cleaning of your filter by taking it out to wash with ordinary water and dry it. wiping the external portion of the air-con also helps to keep your air-con healthy. i hv a list of when to do regular cleaning of air-con and what type of cleaning require for different mths which i will try to post on forum once i got the time for the benefit of all.
  22. try going to Joo Chiat complex, Ling Carpets. the boss is chinese and hv many many type of carpets to recommend you. they hv those type of carpet you describe also. their price is reasonable. and also do walk around the pasar malam around malay village. this is a gd time to visit coz they hv display out watever carpet they hv, usually its rolled up and you hv a difficulty to look at them. and some are going for quite a gd price. hope you enjoy your hunting.
  23. hi reload, in constrn line, usually the bigger the project is, we expect more wastages, damages and extras. a 10% - 15% is a normal % to cater for wastages, damages and extras etc. for items like, pipes, fittings, galvanised sheet, and other raw materials or materials for installation. its a general practice. so there's no excuse. and if a reno contractor did not forsee that and cater extra, hw can he be in this line if cater 20%, scare contractors will anyhw waste it or steal it to sell outside and den tell you that its spoiled. and if 2 cartons, if proportionately ratio to your hm tiles is like eg. 10%-20%, and he claim that its faulty, you must be the witness, acknowledge in writing that its faulty den it can be counted. cannot ownself do QA check. must allow client and others to cross check so that it is fair and dealings is transparent. i guess after reading watever information we supplied to you, he will definitely come up with excuses to counter your claims and the informations we supplied to you.
  24. orr... so its a steamer vacuum cleaner... i tot latest model car Hyundai Avante merge with VW Beetle to give birth to Avante Beetle so pai seh... i so suah ku so far karcher brand of vacuum cleaner is tot to be gd, but i nvr try those model for hm use, mine is for office use, industrial type and it is quite hardy and cleans quite well for 4 years + den it broke down but do be reminded that karcher vacuum bags replacement is hard to find. not every store carries it. but maybe thats for my industrial model, maybe hm use model vacuum bags are easier to find.
  25. den bo bian lor... FS master got gd suggestion or not
