  1. My upstairs neighbour in our HDB block likes to use the aircon at all times of the year, even now in Jan/Feb when we have beautiful breeze and I can often sleep without the fan too. So... I keep my bedroom windows wide open and he has them closed with the aircon on. After an hour or so his aircon compressor starts dripping water on my compressor unit and once in a while takes a dump like it's emptying its bowels down on my unit. The noise is a disturbance when my windows are open and as I'm a light sleeper it sometimes wakes me up at 4am (like now, when I'm posting this note). I tried talking to him, he keeps saying he'll get it set right, but nothing has happened. What other solutions are there, other than closing my windows too?
  2. Hmmm... looks like the only Amasco product worth getting is the regulator (nothing much can go wrong anyway) - it's been working fine with my living room fan for some years now.
  3. Hi all, looking for your experiences with ceiling fans AND their after-sales support/service, after you have had them for 2-3 years. On this forum I see a lot of suggestions about where to buy new fans and where to get the best prices, but not much info on reliability after long use. I've got to replace the fans in both my bedrooms, and now need to make a decision on the brand. The bedroom fans are Amasco brand, less than a year old. In this one year, I have had to get the service guys over three times for repairs for both the fans. One fan had a motor problem, one had a remote receiver problem, and several other defects. The service is frankly sub-standard, and I dont want to use Amasco again as I have lost all confidence in them - the service tech was supposed to come on Friday but never turned up, can't get a proper answer from the company either. There's a crestar fan in the living room that's been working fine for a couple of years now, and a fanco in the third bedroom which is also doing fine. Please share your experience here if you have had fans for over 2-3 years now. Thanks.
  4. I got a couple of "taiyo" brand universal a/c remotes from Self-Fix DIY store in Tampines. They work with my Toshiba.
  5. To share my Amasco experience - 2 fans installed in bedrooms in oct 2007. One fan failed two times and needed repair. Second fan speeds going crazy slow since last month - tech was supposed to come home today but never turned up. Will most likely replace it with another brand. Amasco does seem to have a lot of quality issues, not to mention very poor service. I don't trust them any more.
  6. Mine does. It's also an amasco. For that matter I've had very bad experiences with amasco's quality. My 2nd bedroom fan started making loud humming and rattling noises within 3 months of installation and they fixed it. The stupid thing started again last week. The remote control is half busted - the fan control works but light doesn't. And as you said, the balance seems off, it wobbles even after lots of adjustment by the service tech. And now my master bedroom fan is suddenly going sloooooow... even at max speed. In contrast, my "crestar" fan in the living room is silky smooth, no noise, no wobble. I'll never recommend or buy amasco stuff. Bad quality.
  7. For the past few weeks I noticed whenever there's some sweet on the dining table, it is attacked by small ants within 1/2 an hour. Today I traced these little pests and found there are quite a few living under the dining table. I also found a trace going out towards the bedroom window and into a crack in the wall between the window frame and the wall. How do I get rid of these pesky fellows? It is not severe enough to call the pest control guys but what's the best I can do now? Of course I'm getting the whole house cleaned up tomorrow - what insecticide / spray can I use to keep them away? Thx. Edit: The dining table is really good rosewood and I don't want to damage it with unsuitable chemicals.
  8. Guess I meant "title deed". If you're still repaying your loan, do you at least have a copy of your title deed? You're entitled to a copy at least?
  9. When taking a bank loan for a HDB flat, the bank keeps the HDB lease agreement as security, and you get it back after your loan is paid back in full. How many of you got a copy of this agreement from the bank? If so, how did you go about doing this? I'm asking because in my colleague's case, the lawyer never sent the lease agreement to the bank, even after 6 months. Edit: How about your stamp duty certificate too?
  10. I know this is old, but someone I know got hit badly by the very same law firm. Here's some news in the papers about this company: http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_191860.html http://www.todayonline.com/articles/223628.asp http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews...0101-43238.html http://sgpropertynews.wordpress.com/2007/1...-couples-40000/
  11. Switched to singnet a few months back after pathetic performance (and service) from laghub. They advertise like crazy but their performance sucks big time. I could never go beyond dialup speeds in the evenings, and over the weekend. If I really want to browse, I would have needed to take 1/2 a day off, stay home in the morning and use the net. No more stuckhub for me... a long time (4+ yrs) ex-customer.
  12. Ten really interesting uses. http://www.associatedcontent.com/pop_print..._type_id=161333 Did you know johnson's baby oil (mineral oil) is a really useful paint remover among other things?
  13. We use these guys for our office too - for a long time. That's why I got them to service my AC at home.
  14. Do you mean the house came with network switches? Or are these just LAN sockets? I would be really surprised if you have switches pre-installed. You could physically trace where they lead to. If I'm guessing correctly, you have sockets in each room, which should all lead to a router somewhere, possibly in the living room - can you see if you have 3-4 LAN cables coming out at some place (where you will need to place the router)?
  15. Hi, we've been using a Bosch dishwasher since about 2001. It's given us very good service so far. After 7 or so years there was a controller which started malfunctioning, and it had to be replaced. Bosch service is handled by a company called KITA if I remember correct, these guys are well trained and reliable (so far).
  16. I can imagine your feelings since we went through the same thing with ours. There are many options for you but I would suggest contacting someone skilled in this domain to set it up for you. You can find a list here: http://www.alibaba.com/countrysearch/SG-suppliers/CCTV.html I've heard this company recommended by some: http://www.eurekaplus.com The other option, if you use singtel, is the mobile live-cam. http://home.singtel.com/consumer/products/...am_overview.asp This is a small camera you can install in your home, say at the corner of the living room. It works through 3G and can be accessed from your mobile phone to view in real-time. You can even zoom in and out. My cousin has this installed and it's really good. What I did was to set up an IP camera connected wirelessly to my home PC - it has motion sensing capabilities and will record video to your PC when there's some motion. And please do let us know how this worked out and what solution you chose - I am really interested. I'm planning to upgrade mine.
  17. How do you know his device is accurate? For all I know, it's been rigged to display a 17% higher output.
  18. Your best bet is to ask your lawyer. You do have a good one, don't you? I'd deal without an agent but never without the lawyers.
  19. There's absolutely no use. The market is so unregulated, and there are so many customers, you become just one unhappy fish in the ocean where there are thousands more to pick from. Believe me - I've tried this among other things, there is absolutely no use. Just don't use these agents again, that's all.
  20. 2% is a lot of money for the seller. When I sell I sure as **** won't engage an agent, but make sure I have a good lawyer. You're bound to get some pressure from the buyer's agent but you simply have to deal with it, be strong enough not to break under pressure from some unscrupulous agents. If I'm selling and I encounter some agent I am not comfortable with, I will simply not proceed with the sale.
  21. There was no signed agreement that the buyer would pay the agent a commission. Hence, no case. If the resolution of this case favours Propnex, there's something really really wrong with singapore law. They expect independent buyers/sellers to roll over and enjoy getting violated by these mobsters?
  22. Great. Any particular hardware shop to recommend? Preferably towards the east? If not, any reliable shop in Sim Lim tower? Edit: Got a TAIYO brand universal remote for $13.10 at Self-fix diy store in tampines - it just came in today - they ordered one for me and it works great. Cool! !!
  23. Does anyone know where one can buy a third-party remote controller for a Toshiba air-con? One of my remotes is dead - It's a really old model and Toshiba Sg says they have to order from Japan, and will take a very long time. The model is WC-E1NE, and looks like this: http://www.ir-remote.com.tw/suit_prod_item...show.php?id=495 Thanks.
  24. So are the termites completely eliminated or are they still around hidden deep somewhere? As for the company I used, I forget now.. it's been years.
  25. Where exactly is DK lighting at Geylang? As for the Balestier shops "chopping" people, it depends on the shop. Also, there are some designs you don't get anywhere else, e.g., LC, which has a HUGE showroom in Shaw plaza.
