  1. Yes, so poor thing... I was like you initially, very upset with the dusty floor... luckily I don't do laundry everyday, only once/twice a week. I nearly wanted to buy those robot vcuum cleaner too! But the high price stops me... in the end, I bought a Magic Clean wiper mop... it uses disposable wiper sheet... I find it easier to manage than vacuum cleaner, not so tiring on my back.
  2. Mine was done last yr... Initially was quite hollow but it settled down after a while... now, only hardly walk area still has cracking sound on & off, but common area is nearly noiseless & the feel is pretty solid... if you stay near TPY, you can come over to my place to have a walk
  3. But you can't clean the air Dust in the air was what Patrick told me. Keep all your windows open as long as you can to allow wind to move the air out of your hse... I am out for work most of the time, with windows & doors shut up, maybe that was the reason why it took me 6 mths.
  4. Hi aubrey, can I ask you some qtns? The ceiling fan in your living room, can it generate strong wind? Can you feel the wind even when you are not standing right under it? Roughly how far can you still feel the wind, 3 meters? I have been wanting to install ceiling fan in my flat... as my ceiling is low & I need light kit on the fan, my only option is 3-blade fan... but I am worried bcos many people say its coverage is very small, no wind once you are outside the fan diameter. Thanks
  5. Yes, it is normal... at least for my case. It is due to the dust in the air... will slowly get better as time goes... took me around 6 mths before I realised the floor was not that dusty... by then I have gotten used to sweeping the floor twice a week
  6. OK, thanks, will wait for your quotation After seeing your house pic, I notice you house is very bright liao... you are sure you want it to be even brighter?? Oh, I leave my bamboo poles on the ceiling hanger... I have 2 sets of those hanger, one in utility room & another in kitchen... keeping them up there can save space on the ground.
  7. Hi aubrey, after reading abt the good service & freebies offer by Ah Soon, how I wish I know him earlier when I was sourcing for contractor to do the reno for my hse last yr. BTW, do you mind to share his quotation here? PM is fine if you are not comfortable to disclose... curious to know his pricing... if his price is good, can recommend him to friends or colleagues when they need to renovate their house next time. Happy packing
  8. Read up on this, http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9970 Very useful tips
  9. When was your sink support done up? If > 15 yrs, most likely it is using mosaic pieces on the curve edge. But I am not sure if you can still find the same pattern/colour on the market now... and they are expensive too.
  10. Not recommended for kid's usage... the surface is very rough, might hurt her easily. Also, good to do sanding before painting layers of lacquer... else it will still be pretty rough. My shoe cabinet, coffee table are raw pine... the coffee table collects dust so fast that I have to place a plastic mate on it... as for the shoe cabinet, I painted 3 layers of lacquer on the top part. The lacquer I used is clear wood vanish bought from Homefix.
  11. I didn't do cornice in my hse... didn't want to spend the extra $$ for it... also, if I want to run more electrical points or re-wire existing points next time, got to hack away the cornice... prefer to have flexibility. I also didn't do plastering... have never lived in a house with plastering, so don't see the need to do so... the house I stayed in Perth didn't even do painting work, I could count the no. of bricks on each wall everyday
  12. No, laminate is not the same as solid surface... laminate is used for wooden funiture like cabinet, wardrobe, TV console, study table etc... solid surface is mostly used for kitchen cabinet, bathroom counter top etc. Bay window? What do you want to do on it? I thought just window grills will do?
  13. So what are you going to do to make your living room super bright??
  14. Have not seen any website for Crestar, but Fanco is www.fanco.com.sg
  15. $3.60 includes silencer. $1psf for silencer is what I heard from Supreme, not sure about other brands.
  16. Your qtn is similar to "if you are able to get Mercedes at the same price as Hyundai, do you still want to use Hyundai? I read somewhere that Pergo has a series made in Malaysia which costs abt the same as Supreme, not sure how its quality is. Still better than Supreme? Or the same?
  17. Hi aubrey, if you want super bright for your living room, try these: 1) Change the windows, eg. sliding at the bottom with monsoon windows on top. 2) Do L-box. This will introduce more smaller watt light bulbs & cover bigger area. 3) Hack away the wall between kitchen & living room.
  18. Try calling this guy, Contractor : Alex Aw at 97775055 (Inovar Laminated Flooring) Someone in this forum paid $3.60 only.
  19. My case is different from yours. Those tables/shelves that I bought from IKEA are still going well, no mounds or moulds or whatever. But the expensive kitchen cabinet I paid to H* B* to customise for me has started to produce powdery stuff on some edges/corners or turn yellowish.
  20. Ho Bee's quote is not cheap, I was disappointed after I saw the quality of my kitchen cabinet... outside looks great, but inside is just lousy plywood, rough & uneven surface. I didn't ask for the change... they simply ignored me when I askd them to arrange their painter to repaint the peeled ceiling in my kitchen...
  21. Based on this, looks like what Ho Bee gave me was china plywood, the cheapo one, bcos some areas inside my kitchen cabinet have started to "open mouth", in less than a year after I moved in
  22. Hi rendell, your charges are so much lower leh, so next time when we have adhoc jobs, can you help to do? Seriously, I am thinking to replace my kitchen sink tap, planning to go to Jalan Besar to buy one... how much do you think is a reasonable price for a plumber to do this kind of small job?
  23. You forgot to include painting work in your plan. Go thru our Reno T-blog... afterthat, I am sure you will know how & where to start the reno work for your own hse. Ah Soon & Mr Yeak seem to be the 2 popular contractor now with good workmanship... you might want to try them out. Good luck
