  1. Reasons to chose quartz for countertops? I can think of a few reasons, actually: 1. engineered to meet your needs. A kitchen countertop is typically exposed to stains from food and drink. Quartz is an engineered stone designed to combine the best characteristics of synthetic materials and natural stone. 2. Almost heat-resistant. Engineered quartz countertops are designed to specifically address the issues that plague natural stone and other synthetic materials in a kitchen environment. Placing a trivet or hotpad in between a Quartz surface and hot object is more than enough to stop it from getting damaged. 2. Yo, mate! Not wishing to dampen your spirits when you said you found a carpenter who offers cheap rate. Remember that its about the carpenter's quality and not its affordable charges. Cheap charges =/= quality work... Sometimes that expensive carpenter may be a cheaper option with his "oh-so-expensive" initial charges. Think long term, my friend. If it helps for any, here is a checklist you should go through before hiring that carpenter: https://www.goldpines.com.sg/choosing-carpenters-checklist/
  3. If it may interest you, maybe try out integrated sinks? It has seamless and design and looks irresistible. 1. Its low-maintenance..as in its a one-piece design with no crevices and such. That means no dirt or foreign objects will be caught in its holes since there are none anyway... 2. Easy to install. It comes in one entire piece with your countertop. So...it gets completed and sent to you in a short time. 3. Stylish design. Not just stylish but looks like its up-to-date with modern design. Give it a go. But it does help for those who has a small kitchen and cannot afford to have all that glitzy design and storage. Hope it helps!
  6. I may not be able to recommend a contractor, but I can suggest ways you can have a nice kitchen under budget. You may like minimalist ideas as it can fit easily into your income level. Note that minimalism does not mean you have to spend a huge chunk of money just to look minimalist. Here are ways you can have a minimalist kitchen. 1. Use white. Almost every minimalist kitchen uses white paint. It's an easy and pure colour. Even if you feel white is not practical or is "too white", you can always add a bit of colour splash. That colour splash gives your kitchen some personality. 2. Stick to just the necessary items for your kitchen. You don't want to overspend on items that you don't need for your kitchen do you. Also, weed out those unnecessary "kitchen wares". 3. Smart storage. Utilise your storage spaces to the max by using dividers in your cabinets and drawers. Sometimes, simply placing your jars, pots and other utensils around the kitchen takes up more space than you expect. Hope those help. 7. There are ways to give your kitchen a quick makeover. Here are minimalist ways to do that: 1. Use white. White is all the rage in minimalism. It feels clean and pure. 2. Furnish minimally. Furnish your kitchen with only the basic kitchen necessity. You don't have to hoard so many things in your kitchen, sometimes the items are not needed. 3. Having a small kitchen. With previous points in case, having a small kitchen is all the more reason to have a minimalist design...as less is more sometimes. 9. Great job finding a carpenter who offers great rates. That's awesome! Now do you know what you have to consider before hiring a carpenter? You should consider: 1. His availability. You want a carpenter who can cater to your "time-frame needs". Meaning to say you won't want a carpenter who cannot finish a 2-week project in 2 weeks, and only completed it after 1 month. Time is money, friend. Not forgetting to mention, delays in the project/job causes many inconveniences in the home you don't want. 2. The cost. Obviously everyone digs cost these days. You wanna make sure you get your money's worth for the project you are aiming for. Do keep in mind, cheap =/= quality work. Sometimes, that expensive project is more worth it than the cheaper alternative. 3. Getting references from friends and family members. If you have issues finding carpenter references, your friend can help. Since you found 1 yourself, awesome! 14. Tiles can be a cheaper alternative to most materials out there. Maybe choose marble, if budget is not an issue? 1. Marbles are aesthetically pleasant...whether if you use it as a wall material or floor material.. 2. Distinguishable and exclusive. Each marble quarried from the mines are exclusive in its looks. No 2 marble look the same. Do keep in mind if you were to use marble tiles, and one breaks, replacing can be a bit of a headache sometimes.. Mostly because if you were to replace it from a marble of different "source", the replaced piece may stick out like a sore thumb. That's why when you renovate or install marble tiles, you are (usually) advised to buy an extra box of the same marble design. 3. Durable. Marble is a high-density stone and can last for ages. Its a befitting choice especially for flooring areas that has a lot of traffic. Find out more about marble here: https://www.stoneamperor.com.sg/marble-floorings-pros-and-cons/
  15. Kompacplus is a pretty good alternative to Quartz..as it works like a charm like most other kitchen countertop materials too. Reasons to opt for Kompacplus? 1. Low flammability as it is made with arduous engineering techniques. If you were to put hot pots, pans, plates, etc., on your Kompacplus countertop, it is less likely to burn. 2. Waterproof. Although kitchens are usually seen as a damp area, it doesn't mean your Kompacplus countertop will be affected by it. It's dense and water-proof characteristics makes it a good choice for your kitchen (and your bathroom too). 3. Requires little maintenance. You just need to give it a quick wipe down every now and then. No huge fussy cleaning needed. 16. Hey there.. I am pretty sure you'd want to have your carpentry works completed asap. Maybe consider that freelancer over the part-timer, as freelancer carpenter may be able to dedicate more of his/her time to finish off your carpentry project. Am sure you won't like dragging a project that could have been completed in a week to be completed in 1 month instead, would you Here are reasons (in checklist) to consider before you hire that carpenter: https://www.goldpines.com.sg/choosing-carpenters-checklist/
  17. For anyone who is new to how to find a carpenter, here is a checklist for you to run through before you hire that carpenter. Choosing a carpenter is important when you require woodworking in your new home. 1. Get carpenter references from friends a family members. This is possibly one of the fastest way you can get in touch with a carpenter you need. Your friends and families can recommend a trusted carpenter who may fit your needs. 2. Cost. Another important matter for you to take into consideration. Some carpenters may charge more than the others. But do keep in mind just because one carpenter is less expensive than their peers does not mean you should straightaway choose him/her over the rest. To think of it, sometimes that expensive carpenter may be cheaper and more worth it in the long run..as cheap carpentry works =/= quality, long lasting carpentry. 3. Carpenter's availability. Time matters for you as a homeowner. Surely you won't want to have a carpentry project that can be completed in 2 weeks (or less) to be completed in 2 months, do you? Dragging your carpentry renovation time causes many inconvenience in your home, and best be completed asap! There are more ways to choose your carpenter. To find out more, here's a quick checklist for you to have a look: https://www.goldpines.com.sg/choosing-carpenters-checklist/
  18. I'd still opt to replace the tiles over spray-painting over it. To think of it, tiles are not like marble, where it is costlier. Read through some comments, I can see how people advised youtile spray paint won't last you any more than 2-3 years. Good reasons why you should still choose to replace tiles using tiles...instead of spray painting over. 1. Highly durable. 2. Low maintenance. Instead of spending that $$$ on spray paint, why not spend a bit more to replace the tile? Think long term. 3. Environmentally friendly. It doesn't need to be treated or cleaned with chemicals - warm water should suffice for daily cleaning. Tile flooring can also help preserve your indoor air quality Read here to find out more: https://www.stoneamperor.com.sg/5-solid-advantages-of-viewgres-porcelain-tiles/
  19. Hey there! Is space an issue for your 3-room flat? If yes, there are ways to make your 3-room apartment look bigger: 1 - Use mirrors. Pretty much the most obvious choice, as mirrors give your abode look bigger. 2 - Use large windows. By large, I meant the one where it goes from the floor to the ceiling. Such open-concept enhances the tactile and visual quality of your room. Helps save electric too! 3 - Maybe its the walls! Yeah. Walls. They are made to segregate space, and may be claustrophobic at times. But walls may make your 3-room apartment/house look and feel smaller. Try removing it to see if it makes your space any less claustrophobic. If you feel removing it may seem intrusive towards your privacy, add divider screens, curtains, glass panels to replace.
