  2. Hello everyone! Having seen the various blogs and excitement over home ownership and renovation, I decided to start this blog to account my own journey towards a place my wife and I would soon call 'home'. Ours is a cosy one bedroom condo unit measuring 527 sq ft or 49 sqm. Yeps, you read it right! It's small! But, with just the both of us and a little bundle of joy coming our way, it should be sufficient and easy to maintain for now! Below is the floor plan of our unit! We thank God that it's squarish and therefore easy to conceptualise in accordance to what we have in mind. The theme in mind we have is Modern English/French Classic. We didn't want it to be too Victorian or Baroque as those requires bigger spaces. Hence, we opted for a simpler touch with a mix blend of black and white as our main colors, thus invoking colonial style in mind as well. We were lucky to come across an exact same size junior suite when we stayed in Fairmont Le Montreux Palace in Switzerland for our honeymoon! We immediately fell in love with the whole mood, design and layout that we decided to replicate much of what we see there here in our own home. Below are pictures of the suite: As you can see, one of the practical thing about this layout is that the TV is able to swivel from the living room to the master bedroom. The other functionality about this is that the other part of the TV is a glass mirror. Hence, it can be used both ways - as a decorative piece in the living room if you do not wish to have your guests engaged in watching the TV or use it as a dressing mirror in the bedroom. We also love the white-washed wall beadings and cornices. No false ceiling either but just a central chandelier. Simple and elegant. What we intend to do different however is to have the cornices in black just as the picture below: Will leave all of you with that for now! Next up would be furniture inspirations!
  3. Show off your library in style with this beautiful modern bookcase meeting classical French style with solid mahogany craft. Black baroque frame with luxurious gold interior with queen anne legs. It was used as a bookcase and is in excellent condition. Purchased at almost $2500. Letting go at $1588 as we are redecorating our house and have no space for it now. This is a very heavy piece, please arrange your own delivery/movers. Please also note that the bookcase will have to be carried down via the staircase as it is unable to fit into the HDB lift. Measures: H228cm D40cm W128cm

  9. Hi all, Previously I have started a thread but find it too messy to continue, so I have decided to start a fresh to record down our reno journey. Here's our floor plan: Like many other newbies in renovation, we were clueless on where to start. Went to renovation companies and IDs all over the place and meet up with ID whom friends have recommended. Out of all those, most of them doesn't seems to know how they can contribute to our design or give tips on what to look out for. Its a tiring process repeating ourselves over and over again with each of them... At last, we decided to shout "STOP" and relooked at all those whom we have met up with. After a long talk with wifey, we concluded on the 2 IDs which we were most comfortable with: 1) Space N Living - Sayaka 2) Cottage Craft - Anh Then we went for subsequent rounds of price slashing and discussion with the above IDs. Finally, it was Cottage Craft whom had won my wifey heart. Personally, I felt both IDs were very attentive and have contributed alot to our desired design. But Cottage Craft have the most experience in designing what we wanted, so, we decided to go with them. If anyone is interested in modern simplistic design, I would recommend Sayaka. First, I would like to thank the bro in Renotalk whom put up the this reno-blog: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/62952-a-touch-of-europe/page-2?hl=european It was his blog that led us to the right company to do our dream. So thank you again. So, once we decided that it will be Cottage Craft, we went through another few rounds of price negotiation and design brainstorming with them. Thank you Anh and Daniel for being patience with us (esp. for my wifey since she keeps adding things each time we meet though i keep cutting things to keep our reno cost low ) Just nice while we were finalizing the contract, HDB contractor called to schedule timing for do prep the bedrooms floor.
  10. Sharing some ideas you may consider for a modern victorian concept. For a break away from the traditional english feel, a more contemporary style blends with the victorian concept to create this modern and elegant victorian theme. White as the main color is used to create an open and airy feel, complimented with gloss finished homogeneous tiles for the living room. Some dark colors for furnishing are used to bring contrast to the surroundings. Cornices are used along the edges of the cove lights to compliment that victorian feel. Cabinets and walls have the victorian-like wood trimmings. Some pictures for reference below. More can be found in the same album at the gallery page.
