Small House Holding Our Big Dreams

Recommended Posts

So it's been awhile since I last updated. Currently I'm still waiting for the 1st HDB appointment taking place in the first week of May and in the meantime I'd chosen to work with a contractor instead of an ID.  I'll only be able to get an appointment with the seller to bring the contractor up to the place for measurement's and further discussion after the 1st appointment, so I'm whiling away time sourcing for lights, kitchen cabinet configuration's and furniture. Here are some of the furniture I'll be buying in the next two or three months (most need an indent period).

OceanEleven, Mr Foo right? I've seen his works here in renotalk and they seem pretty good. I think he specialises in certain styles and his work is certainly impressive. Your home turned out really good!

Pity that you had made your decision, else would have introduced mine to you. Flexible ID with meticulous mind-set of a contactor. Never reject my ideas but only to either improve it better or simply shedding light to other aspects where I am convinced to gun down my own ideas.

Hi OceanEleven,

I tried to PM you but I think your mailbox is full. What I meant to say was, would you care to share your ID's contact with me? I have not signed up with the other contractor yet, he needs to come measure the place before I get a finalized quote from him. Given that he is the most reasonable out of all the IDs, I was prepared to do that unless there were more attractive offerings out there :)

Sent you his contact. I would not say he specialises in only certain style/themes. Rather I feel he has preference for certain styles/themes. He likes dark effect leaning towards industrial. However, he mould my place towards a modern contemp which was much to our delight. Have the chance, speak to him, bring along pics of the sofa, book self, he really works wonders with space planning.

Hey Catt! Excited to see the renovation of another 3 roomer kaki. I love your choice of the Kraus Apron sink and I have ordered my 33" Kraus from Amazon without any problem. If your kitchen can afford the space then go for the 33" because it takes in so many of our pots and pans during our major cook out especially with dinner parties and when it is deep even better because the kitchen looks real neat when the pots are well hidden from view.

Cheers

Thanks Luxeexplorer! Your home has such a lovely sunset view. At one point I was renting around the area, lots to eat and drink! I liked being able to walk out for a drinking session and then stumbling home drunkenly in 10 minutes.. hahaha... 3 room planning is such a challenge for me because I have to try and wipe out my dreams of grandeur and humongous furniture.

I'm still thinking about the 33" space required because i don't know if I will end up with enough cabinet space underneath since I'm trying to go without top cabinets. This thought has been haunting me for the past few mornings where I'd be putting an eyebrow on and staring at the floorplan and realizing I have A LOT OF STUFF and omg where am I going to store all of it. Gonna spend this long weekend throwing things out.

If you really have tons of stuff, especially kitchen barang, please do top hung, you wont regret. Better store in kitchen than in some corners where it will be forgotten since you do not have a store rooms as well. I know "topless" is airy and open but I value tidiness more. Else also sieving thru tons of things to find one item is time consuming.

I second Lux on big sink. I love my huge kitchen sink!

I have a mixture of shelves and top cabinets in my kitchen. Gotta admit, the open space makes EVERYTHING nicer!

I also spent some time throwing things out (you will be surprised how much junk we own!) before and after moving in. Just sent two more bags to Salvation Army last week.

Im the opposite. Since moving to my small home, I've valued minimalism more and thought about things longer before I buy it. I have space to build more storage in my home but now I don't want to because I know it will be filled with junk again!

Clearing out my existing storage showed me I had a lot more space than I thought I did. Especially since I didn't move in to new BTO from my parents but already have barang from living outside, I had to be ruthless! It feels soooo good after. Good luck in throwing things out. You will feel much lighter! :)

OceanEleven...yes that's my internal debate. But I also think that I might have enough space for another row of bottom cabinets which works out to having one wall of top and bottom cabinets. I can't wait to go back in with a contractor as all the guessing is driving me crazy.

Yup I will be clearing stuff today. I just found out that I hoard stuff that I've no idea why I'd bought in the first place. Like unused bento making tools and still- sealed Cluedo board games. Did I think I could play by myself?!!

There are 2 schools of thoughts. Some say less space buy lesser, like the wardrobe. Now in your case, kitchen cabinet. Less space, less purchase. I belong to the other school. Be prepare than unprepare. Till the day I use the space, I will leave it empty. No point when I need only to realise that I do not have it. I cant stand appliances laying around the kitchen top.

Lol. Cluedo, kind of like your dilemma now.....clueless. Anyway, my take on the sink, just go with the big size, as this is a daily use item. So you will get to appreciate the size and easy of usage. Again, when it comes to shopping, try not let your heart leads the way.
