1 pointHi all, Have been reading this forum sliently till now that I am soon to embark on my rebuild process. A very informative forum for a new house owner like me. I thought of starting this thread for the list of irresponsible builders/ bad builders that being house owners ourselves has come across. I guess it always good to warn one another who are the builders that we should avoid. In my midst of reseraching on the builders, I read this blog (luckily) and I feel that it should be shared just in case anyone falls into the trap again. http://rmfalconscam.blog.com/ Please feel free to addd on to the list if you have any encounters with any other bad builders as reference for future fellow forumers to avoid.

1 pointHello all. I'm trying to find furniture for my place that looks similar like Crate And Barrel Singapore. Problem is, I'm not sure if they provide customisation options. The pricing is okay but I'm also looking at something cheaper. But not Ikea or FortyTwo standard cos the quality is bad. Anyone knows where I can find similar-style furniture shop in Singapore?

1 pointHi I have intention to renovate my master and common toilet, was quoted about s$10K and s$9K respectively. Works include hacking, water proofing, wall and floor tiles, 2 heaters, piping works, false ceiling and painting, shower screen, vanity cabinets/mirror and haulage removal. Price does not include toilet accessories. Is this cost too expensive? If there are any recommendation , please advise Regards Joe

1 pointHiya, I will start my renovation of my old condo soon. Taking in quotations from my friends, I find that renovation cost for condos seems to be much higher than HDB. For example, a friend of mine was quoted $50+K for her 1,400 sq ft HDB while I was quoted $130K+. Granted that the big differences are that I have a patio and carpentry works, but the difference seems unjustified. Am I the only one feeling this disparity? Any one can shed light? Cheers

1 pointLaminate flooring is becoming increasingly popular for one reason is the premium advantages laminate floors possess such as high wearing resistance, waterproof performance and anti-scratch performance. And the other reason may be for the beautiful colors it presents. With the printing technique improved, more and more natural mimic colors emerged. The color series stretches from wood to marble and cloth. And each series has been expanded vertically to enrich the current color collections. From wood species, you may get classical wood colors like pine, cherry, walnut, and you can also choose from peculiar wood designs such as merbau, wenge and spotted gum. Those products with obvious authentic wood features are especially popular, for example, knotty pine laminate flooring, rustic oak laminate flooring and vineyard cherry laminate flooring. Meanwhile, some antique wood colors have been hotly welcomed by more and more large laminate flooring wholesalers. The following pictures are the new launch products from Sunspeed Flooring. Dark and old color tone matching with knotty and scar gifts laminate flooring history and dignity. Though most consumers pursue wood effect laminate flooring to get the feeling of real wood floor, there are also some requirements for special decors like marble and cloth. But compared with wood colors, marble and cloth pictures are easily to be imitated and produced since they don’t have so many details as wood grains to consider.

1 pointAnd for the piece de resistance! This is my study room! LOOOOOVE the use of steel for the walls and door! The area around the beam needs to be cleaned up a bit for the lines to flow properly but I'll be taking that up with her shortly. I would never have come up with this idea and I really LOVE it. Tomorrow will be a meeting with the electrician to see how crazy i can get with my power points. And how much it will hurt my pocket. Then hacking starts the day after! it's beginning!

1 pointBeen ages since I've posted. Things have been on standby as mentioned before and so the mrs and I were taking a break from the whole process too and went on a few nice dates while the ID was away on her own holiday. Now she's back and we've received the first round of 3D images! I was really quite impressed with the direction she has taken but the finishes still need a lot of tweaking. Through the first round, I also got to know a little bit more about the wife's aesthetics. And for those who are doing reno, i think you will agree that this is the toughest part - to finding out what your partner wants and how to combine the two looks into something you both love. To be honest, we're still feeling our way around but I'm confident that we will get there. And after an extensive meeting, our ID sounds like she's pretty sure where to take the look too! So we can't wait till our second round of 3Ds! In the meantime, I would like to share with you a bit of what she's shown us. We're asking for a greyish tone brick wall for comparison. wife is really against the laminates for the shoe cabinet area so that will be changed shortly! Oh and the hollow block wall behind the couch is supposed to be painted in grey. Kitchen. Love the black w wood and stainless steel!

1 pointAshley, to put your confusion to rest, both has their advantages and disadvantages, it depends on where do you plan to have it install. That being said, a little history about vinyl, it was created for the commercial market (meant to be stepped on with shoes and not feet, and definitely not meant for you to sit or lie on it.) However, througout the years, technology has improved, but at the same time, certain companies are taking advantage of this and cut cost, hence the toxic rumors started flowing. How true? I have no idea, like I said, its rumor and have yet to stumbled on a real incident. If waterproofing and wooden flooring is what you seek, you could try out our waterproof laminate (not vinyl). But bear in mind, good things are not cheap, cheap things might be not good. Lol Cheers and have a nice day all, Sheridan

1 pointHello to all new EM owners. Enjoy the reno experience and your new place when you finally move in. Btw, if anyone is looking for a roller shutter contractor, pls do not use Paul Aluminium. Had some problems with my shutters and they were an absolute pain to deal with. In the end we were lucky to find Ocean Newline Industries. [http://www.oceannewline.com.sg] I'm not affiliated to Ocean Newline, just thought to share a good vendor.

1 pointHi, I'm currently facing a leakage of my copper water pipe running across my existing HDB resale flat. I've been sourcing a few plumbers online but majority are unable to do Repiping as they only doing minor repair works. To carry out repair works, I was quoted 130 for changing a 4-5m length by plumber A using copper pipes and 180 for changing a 1.5m length by plumber B using SS pipes. For Repiping, plumber A unable to do, plumber B quoted 1150 using ss pipes and to add 300 if want copper pipes and plumber c who only do Repiping, quoted 1600. Mine is a 4 room flat and my piping is not hard to reach, all are easily accessible with ample working space. After 2 days of thinking, I've decided to use plumber B for Repiping works. Yet to start yet but will post here after it was done. Decided to start this thread as there was No relevant thread here to help people like me in future.

1 pointWe bought a corner terrace and did some basic A&A works. Though the contractor was recommended by a friend he did such a bad job that we might have to reconstruct the house. We tried to save on the architect cost - big mistake - he was a hands off guy. After reading the posts and the stress we went through, have decided to go for a good architect who will advise us and the contractor. Those who have had experience with architects, please can you advise what to look out for in an architect. Also if you have a good experience with an architect is it possible to PM me the contact. Thanks for the help. My email is sharanya@outlook.sg Sharon
