sand flies are very small, almost as small as the size of a dot. After they bite, looks like a mosquito bite but it's itchyness can last up to a week or more, and it's super duper itchy. And it'll usually leave an ugly mark after full recovery. Here's some info on sand flies: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandflea

Showroom Flat
hihihi replied to ClockworkO's topic in Renovation Contractors, Interior Designers & Suppliers Reviews
Two scenerios: 1) to their advantage they give u some items FOC 2) to your advantage they pay "rental" on per day basis Depending on your bargaining power, mostly will be Case #1. But alot of pple will come into your house, hopefully with their shoes off And also u preferably change your locks after the show is over. And u must be comfortable with their ideas. Coz usually show room are made to be very nice... to the extend some pple cannot take it e.g knock down walls to make living rm bigger. -
my guess is that the original gate locking pin/rod used is made of brittle material --> which explains it'll snap easily once it's hammered at an angle. The problem will be made more serious in our Bedok design, whereby the head is shaped like a marble, as opposed to the rivet head design --> more easy to hammer. therefore even if Jovi managed to get pple to come and re-weld the joint, it doesn't serve any purpose at all. Unless all the joint-pins are changed, which is a big big cost whereby the construction company don't want to face... calling DSA to the rescue... summon the chief-engineer again... the joints can definitely be hacked off even with the gate closed. It's just a pin holding on the hinge. Once hacked off, u can lift the entire gate out with the lock still intact and put it one side.

quite likely is the fitting of the toilet bowl to the outlet is not done very well. there comes the smell. But there's no way to check unless u dismantle the bowl to see.

wasn't newater mixed into our reservoir and then went thru the normal purification steps again. Since when does newater come straight into our taps?

hmm.. sound more and more like my contractor (in my signature), or is it a coincidence. I believe your contractor friend would have told u, or didn't he? Changing the hollow tiles will be only changing that particular tiles, not the neighbouring tiles. Basically the guy will come and use a electric cutter to cut out the affected tiles and then re-lay them. Only concern is dust, and noise of coz. Unless he come prepared with plastic sheets to isolate the area he's working on, can then minmise the dust.

water problems... collect some water in a clear glass let it stand overnight, then see the powdery residue collected next morning. Can give u clue on what stuff is that. Trace the water line to see if u can find anything unusal. Get the contractor to help u check this out. They might have play punk in during the routing of waterline to the sink. tiles very easy. get them changed.

I hope you're not using the same contractor as me

Hacking Needed If Changing Whole Plumbing System?
hihihi replied to 688's topic in Plumbing & Electrical Works
if only hacking the portion where pipes runs versus hacking the entire toilet. Advantages to him is that he don't have to worry so much abt damaging neighbouring tiles, less hassle to his workers and of coz greater profits. -
plastering is terribly easy to DIY. $650 is mincing your carrot. Plaster either comes in powder where u mix yourself or in a ready-mixed tub.

for UV rejection, 10 out of 10 vendors will show you their spec is 99.99% rejection. Only tricky thing is heat. Like u had found out, clear yet with high-IR rejection is actually the most expensive type. I spoke to a few vendors before and learned something from them. And one of them actually had the same observation as me. I told him of my observation that 2 cars parked under the sun, getting into the dark-tinted-cheapo-film car is cooler than getting into the clear-tint-yet-high-IR-rejection car. He agreed and told me that actually the visible part of light also carries heat, not just the IR part. And that heat transmission you need to look at the "total transmitted energy" instead of only looking at the IR portion. So this you have to do your comparison. Expensive film is not necessarily means it's excellent in heat rejection. It maybe expensive simply because the material used is expensive. E.g film can use titanium powder mixed into the film for heat reflection. Titanium being an expensive metal will naturally increase the price of the film.

Advice On Wiw
hihihi replied to Smallboy's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
the concern is toilet being a wet area, and WiW being a dry area. And if toilet's water proofing is not done properly, then over time, where the water proofing is breached, then water will leak thru and ruin the WiW. Suggestions: 1) Make the toilet purely a dry toilet i.e no bathing, just do biz. + install ventilation fan 2) change the toilet door orientation to open to the bedrm instead of open to WiW. But then your sliding door to WiW will have a problem, unless u use other types of doors. -
broken link... u can DIY something out of cable trunking, then use glue to stick at the edge to guide the water downwards. I'm also thinking of doing the same to my house too.

buy a small tub of plaster then ownself DIY plaster. Repaint is recommended to seal off the powder. Mine also very obvious, but I have to live with it.

Pay Full For A Resale Flat
hihihi replied to roytan30's topic in HDB New/Resale Flats, Executive Condominiums
if u have enough CPF, they will wipe out your CPF before considering u for eligability of taking up loan. Unless what some pple do is to use the CPF to invest in something else, then goto collect the keys. Also meaning that u "loss" your chance of concession rate loan from HDB. And to u can only utilise this chance again only if u're to upsize your current pigeon hole.
