  1. Wah.. now organise M'sia road trip liao?? MMm have to change the whole piece of laminate lor. But I don't have the guy's number. Anyway it's not a big problem and although it's obvious to us *cos we live there* but no guests have noticed it yet because it's in the kitchen and the whole place is white... not very easy to notice the bubbles. I do hope Uncle can have his problems solved. He doesn't have a bad heart... but he doesn't know how to deal with all this and let the whole thing blow out of proportion. What many of us think as common sense to manage business... may not be so "common sensical" to everyone. haiz. He ah. Anyway you're right about going for a tiler!! I think I'll get the HDB contractor (listed on town council site) to do my door and windows, then get a tiler contact from here.. then we'll probably paint the whole place ourselves. Need carpenter also. mmm Such a small area need so many people to do!! EH!! I don't mind also. I need one to scrap the little popped up paint from the cracks then patch the cracks up... hahahah but you all use first. Mine not urgent. I'll try to psycho my bro to do it.
  2. LOL you're so funny! Wah your house is really coming together. Nice.
  3. dsman... heheh the way you describe.. all the items are up and look ready.. but not ready to be used yet!
  4. *chant chant chant* pictures pictures
  5. eh? suddenly saw my name here. Yup.. We have string curtains in the house. I bought them from Tanjong Katong Complex.. $30 from the "towel" shop nearest to shop and save. The other shops all selling $40+++. Then I used Ikea panel curtain system to put them up.
  6. doraemon... mm the style of your renovator sounds very familiar.. like how Uncle used to do for me. But anyway.. CONGRATS!! that's ONE problem solved.
  7. hi hcbing.. I suggest you suss out Uncle Soon's thread and read more about him first? After reading if you still want you can PM me... I'm.. apprehensive. There are plenty of great guys who can do for you.. like Mr Yeak... two Henrys...
  8. Ohhh the raindance shower head!! I just used it at the hotel in HK! Very shiok. Unlike the one in my house.
  9. WOW your house is very cool! unique. mmm the clock is completely irreparable?
  10. That's good! Esp you might be able to see more designs by then and get something even nicer!! That's good service.
  11. *faints* haha but if you show the pictures of what you want to your ID... can't they do something similar? *erhm* I'm not encouraging piracy
  12. *applause* I'm glad you came out of this even better trev!! Way to go. I too enjoyed my process though mine was not as gruelling but like yourself I shall DIY next time. *exciting*

  16. I think it depends on how you look at it. If you don't cook often, you won't be able to fill the dishwasher. If you don't want to leave the dirty dishes overnight, it'll mean that you'll have to wash when it's at half-load. LIke washing machine... if you don't wash at full load and cannot control the volume of water that goes in, you'll be wasting a lot of water.
  17. My humble opinions... Question 1: I am looking for an interior designer to help me design my home but they are not willing to show me designs until I sign up. But if they don't show me their designs, how do I know they are the ones I am looking for? Ask to see portfolios of homes THEY have done. Not those done by the company. See if you like them. Also as you discuss your plans, if he keeps saying everything can can can... just be careful especially if he's vague on details. If everything CANNOT... also be careful. A good ID will understand your need to look for more quotes to compare. If he's pushy then it's a no-no. Question 2: Is what I have encountered so far the norm in the industry or am I plain unlucky? Pretty much the norm. Some go beyond and do provide an idea of what they can do for you but no real drawings will be given. Question 3: Any advice as to what I am doing wrong? Go to various ID's websites and browse through people's T-blogs here to have a feel of what you want. You can collect some pictures and show them to the ID. Of course.. these pictures are for personal use and reference... You're doing lots of right stuff... by doing homework first... and I'm glad you realise the importance of looking for a reliable person and not a reliable company only.
  18. doraemon.. so sorry I've been so busy lately I didn't check my PM and all. Your quotation seems ok.. very reasonable actually at 22k. Just that I have a few questions? Under Kitchen Item 2.2, what brand of solid top are they providing you? Different brands vary in quality and price. Under Bedroom 2 Item 6.1, it looks like the same one in your master... so why does it cost twice as much? Or is the one in bedroom3 included in bedroom2's? One more thing.. at the top they already stated that the labour for installing accessories is free.. then they repeated again at the bottom under plumbing... Makes it look like they are giving you a lot of "free" stuff when it's repeated actually. Rem to check out the guy's works before you sign on the dotted line!
  19. Hi Thirdrock!! welcome *hope I'm not too late* I agree with Mickey! I like this layout!
  20. Sigh. Ya I see your blogs I also *heartache*. Even during my process, my parents and I had some tiffs.. so I can imagine how it is for you all... haiz. My job isn't urgent since it's just the recess and we bought it to put stuff. Also I've managed to talk my dad into letting people during the off-peak months like Ching Ming or 7th month. Meanwhile we'll just fight out the designs and stuff. But I'll have to go to Hafary to get my floor tiles some time this week. I'm afraid the tiles I used will be OOS... urgh. Wall has cracks because the wall was built. So those cracks are superficial cracks around the new border. Carpentry was done by Mr Low.
  21. eee the army green towel.. we just put my bro's to wash and all the green strings came floating up... *faint*
  22. Ya... otherwise will end up like me.. having to look after it for myself. Then the trunking not straight... we also didn't care already.
  23. Hi seashell... I'm glad to see things moving at your place. Although you had to pay for it to get moving but at least it is.. and the wood used for carpentry looks good. I showed my dad your picture. As for work not done... I dunno how you consider that. Actually no I guess. Cos I didn't pay him for it yet. Uncle promised to help me with my recess area after I purchase it. It was ready to be renovated 2 months ago, but Uncle hasn't done anything. I guess that's a blessing in disguise cos I wouldn't want him to start... and leave it halfway. The only problem my mom brought up is that most contractor wouldn't want to renovate such a small place... waste of their workers'... and we'll probably be "chopped" for it. Which was why we tried to "book" uncle early to do it for us, since he did our house too. Meanwhile.. the laminate in the kitchen has bubbles and my bro's wall has cracks... this happened about a month after our reno last year but my mom told Uncle to do it when the recess was being done. So... for now we're living with those faults. Will probably get the "new" contractor to do it when he does the recess. See how. I'm thinking of patching the cracks myself.
