  1. Wah I love the current state too. And love the 3D even more. Look forward to the transformation!
  2. Mr Liew!!! hehehe The one who's quite good looking right? he's the boss. allalalal He's pretty good but his workers can be a little bo chap and a teeny lazy. LIke if boss isn't around then they mill around a bit. But the quality of the stuff he gives is ok. hehhe
  3. whahahha I know I know.. Aubrey is really Xiao mei mei la... lol I lose.
  4. asugama... hope you dun mind. I save the picture of your kitchen (the cabinet next to the fridge) so that I can show Uncle that I want to make shelving for my stupid microwave and toaster which is in the middle of nowhere now. Glad to know that your S/S is better and it looks so much cleaner now! I love your MBR.... love....
  5. mm cannotisit... I just saw the picture on the floor crack... and you mention you want to laminate over it. First you must check the tile. Is it cracking due to hollowness and that the crack is actually the beginning of a pop-up? If it is, and you laminate over, in time, *soon*, the pop-up will damage your laminate. According to the rest (not me cos I'm hard of hearing), using a metal pointer to tap the tiles in the room to see if they are hollow.
  6. oooo it happened to me too... but mine is the upstairs leaking into mine. So I didn't have this choosing tiles problem.. BUT... if you let the current owner rectify the fault and he/she drags (cos it's dusty and dirty and horrible to clean) then you may experience problems with the completion date. The thing is no one will check the place from now to the few days before completion. HDB will check about 1 week before completion as for you, you will check 1-2 days before completion. If by that time, either of you realise that it's not been done, it'll be too late and the deal might fall through. If you choose to let it be done after completion (when it's yours), HDB will ask you and your seller to sign a document which "transfers" the responsibility to you. The seller will have to pay you a fixed amount (mine was $235) and your completion can take place like normal. Well.. if you are going to do renovation anyway... why not let it happen while it's yours? Then you needn't worry about delays also.... There is another thread.. you should search for it... the buyers are now worried cos the sellers have not rectified faults... and it's one week to completion.
  7. Wah bd and pd.. You're really very patient. amazing. It happened to me also.. Uncle told us to go to check the tiles the next day but he didn't give us a time. Being naive then (cos not many people on the forum doing with Uncle then) We happily went early in the morning. Nobody. Waited. Nobody. Called Uncle but he didn't pick up. He was probably driving.. so what did my sis and I do? We ripped open all the tile packs and checked them ourselves. haha We labelled all the tile samples according to where they were suppose to be... and we found that... some of our toilet tiles were missing too!!! Are yours from Sin Lek? Mine were... Uncle arrived just when we finished checking so we went through with him again. hehe But you guys are really patient. :)
  8. haha I was on leave that time.. "block leave" so I was there EVERY day. My dad too... there were times when my dad was there throughout, happily supervising the workers. We buy snacks and lunch for them every day too I like your grilles.. so unconventional.. more modern looking. nice. This will be an exciting week for you!
  9. I SCROLLED TOO FAST (too excited) I MISSED THE KITCHEN!! So niceeeeee so cosy looking...
  10. Still waiting to buy...... LOL horrible process. When it's my turn.. things have to be done fast! can you imagine if I cannot step on the tiles to enter my house??? LOL I think the process will be a torture. Lol so pai seh. That day... I happen to meet Uncle and Joseph (Bo Geh) near F4's place... and Uncle happily told Joseph... This one lor.. this is Simei de Xiao Mei... then Joseph's face showed complete confusion!... this Uncle ah... So pai seh. haha why are you xiao mei mei? ok ok I PM you ask for your age. LOL Xiao Mei Mei is like super young. lol I know how it feels man. When uncle just rectify some grouting for me... and the ones in the kitchen, the house was so dirty my feet rot to ****. poor girl...
  11. Wahhh like condo. Your house must be very very windy with the open space in front....
  12. wahaha... but I'm still a good girl. I wake up about 7plus to 8. but at the rate the flu thing is going I'm wondering if school can reopen on time. Sigh. Uncle is like that. He put the appt to tmr? You must be prepared. Because you aren't getting your home yet, he's more likely to delay you more. he usually acts faster for people who are getting their keys. The funny thing about him is that although he forgets things... he seems to rem who is getting their keys when... he will initiate calls to owners who are getting keys soon... mmm Funny man
  13. it took us 4 rounds of mopping... two of which I went on my knees which I find more effective. There was a suggestion in Mace's blog before.. to use feather dusters but I'm not sure how it works. You might want to read his blog? If I were you I would take a lonnngggg break before i unpack.
  14. wahhh what a nice spacious hall and the platform has merged into your current design... kitchen??
  15. All this talk about Elder Goh really makes me curious about him! *unfair* I din get to know him! lol
  16. agreed... and with only 2 posts... which are dedicated to just here... in advertising for the ID. Well, at least not spamming all ard the forum.
  17. I promised to do this on every page so that other new readers will not be misled. For newcomers, people who intend to renovate and people doing homework early. 1) All renovation has its hiccups. Simply because we are humans. Some people experience more hiccups, some less. Same goes for Uncle's clients. Some of us had more problems than others. If you look carefully and actually note down, you'll notice that it's not consistent. This could be due to a number of reasons... some of which involves Uncle, some not. 2) Do your homework. Not just which ID/contractor is good on the forum... but as you read, you should take note of little tricks and tips that people do when they are having their reno... write them down so that you can also do them when it's your turn. Stuff like labelling tile samples and leaving them in the house, drawing the actual electrical points on the walls of the house, marking crosses on stuff to be hacked.... Small stuff. These will come in useful not just in dealing with Uncle but with ANY ID or any contractor... especially when some of them try to spoonfeed you with rubbish information. smile.gif 3) Get as many quotations as you can. I know it's tiring and it's troublesome and sometimes even humiliating... I've been through all that. But get them. At least 8? 10? 15? I had about 20 I think. I can't really remember and I trashed them. Get enough to convince yourself that you have seen enough to say that you like the person's mannerism, work style, reputation, workmanship for that PRICE.... so that you will regret less later on. I've come across some owners who insist on getting Uncle's contact and want to engage Uncle with just very few quotations in hand. I advised them against this and really beg them to go get more. 4) There are plenty of contractors and IDs in Singapore with different range of services, different approach in dealing with people and different prices to offer. The only reason why you keep seeing Uncle Soon's name around this forum is not because he's the ONLY contractor but simply because it just so happens that a number of forummers are currently having their houses done by him. Please go look through at least 3-4 of the following T-blogs - mrspiglet's, smallboy's, fondue's, familyof4's, ivy's, aubrey's, jesperbg's, ashes02's, Native02's, pinkpetter's, Metalsubzero's, gaku70's, growler's, guy77's, blue_diamond's, apples'...... if I missed out anyone.. SORRY LA... very difficult to remember leh. 5) Everyone has varying standards of carpentry. What you may find acceptable may not seem so to another person. Don't take someone's word for it. Go see it for yourself and decide if you think it's acceptable. By that, I don't mean viewing showrooms. I think showrooms are trash. They put together the best stuff with a big budget, which may not be what you will be given anyway. Go see someone's home. It's even better if you manage to get the owner while you're there so you can have a glimpse at whether the owner is happy with the contractor. smile.gif 6)Try your best not to announce that you need an ID/contractor or need a certain contractor's contact. You'll find your inbox flooded with PMs, some from legitimate IDs some from Fake owners. Read through T-blogs and PM the owners of the blogs for their ID/contractor's contact. It's a lot safer that way.
  18. 1) What are the questions that i should ask? Mmm A good ID will ask you about your family, your lifestyle and what are your tastes like. Eg. How many people are going to be in the house? Do you have any pets? Are you going to consult fengshui? Do you cook often... things like that. A good ID will also tell you how you can save money in the long run, like having certain types of lights, or arranging them in a certain manner will have the same bright effect but lessen number of lights. He will also ask you for your budget. Please deduct like 10k off your real budget... like if you intend to spend 30k, then tell him 20k. If his expression change or become very "black" then you can take this one off your list already. The first visit to an ID will probably take you quite some time because you are figuring out what the items you need. Subsequently it should be faster. Request to see some works that the ID is handling at the moment (nearing completion ones) Please do not depend on showrooms. Showrooms are built using the best with a big budget and it's not meant for someone to live in... see the real works, and it's even better if you happen to meet the owners when you're there, then you will know if the owners are happy with the ID. If the ID refuses, then you also know what that means... 2) Any tricks that ID will do to make us immediately jump the bandwagon or make us confuse Have... Tell you that the SPECIAL OFFER ends today... or the FREE GIFTS are limited... OR ask you to pay $1000 deposit first to see 3D drawings, AND promise you that you can take the drawings even though you don't sign with them... or that the $1000 can be used to offset the amount in the quotation later. All little tricks. 3) What I should look out for? ... wah. mm chemistry and sincerity in trying to meet your needs and budget. If the guy comments that you have a lot of requirements... AXE him. If he calls you every day machiam he is very free, you might want to re-consider? I think a good ID should be inbetween. He should not be too busy and should not be too free. I had a few who kept calling me and I cancelled them out before I analysed their quotation. 4) any other info that you guys may help a newbie like me and many others who just starting their 1st home A good ID/contractor will let you go away without any guilty feeling. He will understand the need for a home owner to source for more quotations to compare. So... SOURCE FOR MORE QUOTES to compare. After looking at a few IDs, you might want to check out contractors too? to see if they can satisfy your needs? Oh ye, before you see anyone, buy your floorplan from HDB ba. And the suggestion above? reading T-blogs... is a very very very suggestion. I wrote this in another thread.. you might want to take a look. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?s=...st&p=406902
  19. YAYYYYY Thank you! *writing down*
  20. mm ya wish Jason all the best ba.. though I'm a little sad that two brothers have to be like that... but I hope he won't design other people's house to his own liking anymore...
