  1. unfortunately for PAP, citizens and opposition have gotten smarter. they got to really change another method, like to crying or apologising to get more votes. the use of statistics by PAP to prove a point can usually and almost always misleading. i was just talking to my wife on the lack of "authority" in our PM. With SM and MM around making comments, people are confused as to who is in charge and whose words count. Also, similar to "2nd generation emperors" who inherited an empire, the "ba qi" or "authoritativeness" is much lesser compared to the "1st generation emperors" who fought to build the empire. I also kinda surprised that PM wants a 4th generation leader at this stage....still early in my humble view.
  2. im actually looking for water based wood paint. the aqua bodelac series - about $22 per litre at normal paint shops.
  3. My view is that increase in ceiling of 8k will drive bto price up, then pte property will increase as well. Unless sg have too many hse...but no speculators..
  4. i would say its highly subjective. i came across a 3room flat - only 2 bedrooms and a storeroom in between bedrooms. @ Clementi central, ard 5-7mins walk to mrt station. Mid floor, non-lift landing sold at 40k COV to a family with kids. Some people mind, but others don't mind, it really depends. They will of course take the chance to bargain, but u might meet someone willing to pay so that he/she can save on the hacking cost. Cheers!
  5. that diy shop was selling nippon spray paint at 4.80. (before 20% discount) other shops selling at 5.50 onwards bought 2 btls there, did not ask about the paint prices. Jurong west paint shop? I live not too far away, can share the prices?
  6. good for those earning between 8-10k bad for those earning below 8k - more competition for limited flats, higher chance of not getting one - more demand = govt can launch more flats 1 month later at higher price, more money for our reserves good for govt: - can increase the median income of applicants and show that hdb is affordable (by not decreasing price) - use it to satisfy those who are unhappy about HDB policies, the "sandwiched" group. especially at such a sensative time. though i thing MBT would still win - make more people happy and use statistics to "prove" the affordability of flats. - tie more people down to the hdb flat/property and use upgrading/improvement of facilities as a carrot 5yrs later
  7. i think ikea pullouts are expensive for ikea products. Do compare the prices to blum to see if its worthwhile. carpenters may be willing to do the frame for you i think.
  8. in the eyes of a banker, (though im not a banker), the price of anything would be what the market would be willing to pay. the market in this case would be set by those people who believe that hdb 99 yr lease = freehold. my view is that: within 2 or 3 decades, hdb will be in super deep sh*t when they cannot do the SERS fast enough. Thats when they would extend the lease and that might be when valuation of property takes a whole new dimension.
  9. hI Emobebe, we too started out as being lazy people, if i was asked whether i would do any DIY 2yrs ago, i would have said "nah". all this DIY stuff started with me spotting a bird cage light at a shop selling at $200+. Wifey said its easy to make and she proved it. It really is not difficult! SLowly we progressed by learning from blogs...the latest project is the biggest by far. While the process is tiring, the satisfaction cannot be described. Here is a good site on ikea stuff, where people post their "hacks". It really shows how creative people can be! http://www.ikeahackers.net/ Have fun!
  10. Completion of our shoe cabinets!! Before: After:
  11. speaking of which i have just received the ex-house owner's voting card. no idea how he is going to vote as i had already put it into the return mail. maybe he dun care also..
  12. woah how come FS thread become Men in White bashing thread...? haha so Mae, who are those with favourable elements that day? im particularly interested in the fate of MBT!
  13. i saw this in a home & decor magazine and found it to my liking. So sharing it with u guys. the owner customised a decal for the bomb shelter.
  14. with wikileaks, we have a little more transpancy than before.
  15. i suppose u can do them a small favour, no harm la. it does not cost u anything. But if ur buyers want it in future they have to pay for it. so depends on individual ba. can google for opennet for more info, since u might use it in your new home... in short, opennet will just install the terminal point which allows for faster internet access. i view it as a "need to have" as fibre offers better value than broadband.
  16. frankly, asking for opinion/feedback on this section is useless in my humble opinion. some fan club contractor also has unhappy clients. The ways to gain from this forum: - see tblogs to see true reviews of house owners (may not be represntative though) - see tblogs to know the process, market rate, design, materials...etc - see tblogs to know problems faced and how contractors try to smoke people - see tblogs to know that for every satisfied customer, there may be 2 unsatisfied customers so my conclusion is see tblogs, take time to do so and it will go a long way. This particular section is largely advertisment in nature. *note: some tblogs looks fake as well, read enough of them and u will realise* Cheers!
  17. I believe that HDB should and rightfully be available to SG citizens only. Yes, making them pay a premium is brilliant idea...just that it will further increase prices as resale prices are based on "recently completed transaction of nearby places". Low TK almost gave up on the housing issue le... no amount of debate can get through MBT's skull.
  18. most paint prices quite standard la... but i saw at west coast plaza last week, a shop called buy & fix (under Natural cool) was selling paint at 20% off. Not sure if the promo is still on there. U can try ba.
  19. can buy BTO with nil cash down after working half a year...? i assume he can count la. say BTO takes 3 yrs to build, so take the 3 yrs to save up for wedding, reno, etc...resasonable to me. BUT, the whole flat use up all the CPF leh. This he never respond. Emptying CPF for an asset which cannot be sold will just create another problem down the road. The use of 30 yr loan to pay - MBT never reply as well. But MM reply for him "there is no such thing as retirement". Just that MBT no powderful enough to say it nia.
  20. the one for android works for me...counter check with my $2 meter from daiso...heee yeap its 100 days. We did change stuff before la even once we lost the receipt, he still refund us. not sure if they are flexible about packaaging though
  21. no fair way about things... most people want benefits instead of fairness. So we would have varying degrees of demands. Personally i view the 50k compensationn as reasonable. It may also be a good time to get some new furniture or throw away useless junk (since u know new home is smaller!) but thats just me. Some may view a 100k compensation as insufficient as well u know...
  22. take it positively ba. Plywood is still wood which is glued together, and when water gets in, will also be gone case...haa oh do get a power tool to drill in screws, using a normal screwdriver will literally drive u nuts... yes, looking forward to ur pics!
  23. i had considered ikea kitchen previously, drawn to the design. But after calculation, prices of drawers are very expensive! Cabinet doors are cheap la...so instead i went to carpenter. DIY installation is not easy, especially if your flat have uneven walls and flooring (usually uneven for kitchen anyway) You would need power tools if not it will be a nightmare... but hope u have fun installing it though. It may or may not last a long time but since u already got it, just use first loh. anyway who is to say plywood last a long time..? if sink is not siliconed properly, and water gets in, also will be gone soon de.
