  1. May I know if you have any issue painting chalkboard paint onto the metal surface of the bomb shelter? Does the paint have difficulty adhering to the metal door? Even after painting, does the metal door make the matte chalk paint glossy?
  2. Do you know if the thickness of the "faceplates" of ones sold on 淘宝 is a match to the originals ones installed by HDB? Example: if the 淘宝 ones have thicker faceplates, after installation the floortrap will protrude from the floor & vice versa.I was contemplating these too, but concerned about thickness. I mean, size-wise I can determine, but thickness I can't unless I tear out my existing (HDB) ones, which is irreversible.
  3. Hi fellows, I came across a photo of a wall which I feel looks nice & I will like to have it implemented at my place. Unfortunately, I know not how it is implemented. Anybody knows how the following is achieved?:
  4. Anyway, more rusty stuff (1st pic is a daytime shot of the supposedly-new kitchen faucet; the rest are mostly the hinges of the shelves inside my kitchen cabinet. The white boards are the shelves inside some of the kitchen cabinet; the crack is at a corner of my kitchen counter-top):
  5. May I know if it's acceptable/typical for the full water pressure to only kick-in after 30 seconds of running the bathroom shower head?: The "VTEC-has-kick-in-yo" moment is around the 0:28sec mark of the video.
  6. Is this considered al right water flowrate for bidets?
  7. 17) How about this? The external corners of my window frames, the outer side that actually faces the elements:
  8. Really? I'm not too sure: Is this...acceptable? Will I be expecting future issues with hollow skirtings? But wouldn't that invite mosquitoes (& those small small flies) to chill around that drainage area (actually I wish to emphasize: the floor trap area no water, but beyond the floor trap, i.e. inside the big pipe, that is where the water accumulates; which surprised me)?
  9. some more examples of rusty window hinges & inadequate pointing (I hope I'm using the right term) between switch faceplate & wall:
  10. ... continued from top... 12) Jammed internal shelves of cabinets These internal shelves I assume can be (end-user-) configured to adapt to the height of the items we wish to store at the various compartment levels. But for some of them in my kitchen, I can rotate them only slightly here & there (which implies they are not fixed to the spot) but try as I might, I cannot extract them totally to adjust which height they are mounted at. My concern is, these actually further implies the vertical walls of the cabinet are warped already. 13) Screws not screw in, in a level manner I noticed the 2 screws in my cistern are screwed in at an angle. Is it meant to be like that? 14) What's this weird weird thing in the (top sliding) tracks of my balcony sliding door? 15) Extremely-yellowish door stopper 16) Extremely dirty "new" floortraps Is this still counted as acceptable? Or signs that something (costruction materials) was poured down the floortraps during work? I'm quite a newbie home owner, & quite uncertain which are authentic defects versus which are "asking-for-too-much". Will very much appreciate the advise of the veterans home-makers here.
  11. ... continued from top... 9) Rust posts on new taps The surface isn't smooth to touch & I observed the spots are reddish (can't really tell in this photo). I assume over time as the kitchen get used for longer periods, the (corrosion) spots will grow? 10) Scrapping/corrosion/tool markings on piping below basins Are these acceptable? Will you report them? 11) Rust on windows hinges Are these areas of rust acceptable on the hinges of push-out windows? ...to be continued...
  12. ... continued from top... 6) Dents in engineered timber flooring Do such dents count as defects? 7) Inadequate/incomplete "pointing"/"sealing" around the spot where the basin pipes is inserted into the wall Do I report them as defects? I was expecting the sealant material to be even; not a dash here & there. 8) Gaps between switch faceplates & wall Counted as defects? ...to be continued...
  13. Hi fellows. Recently I collected the keys to my apartment & observed some physical conditions which I ain't certain whether to pursue or not. Perhaps can provide some opinion whether you will classify the follow as defects? 1) Weird grey dots/materials along wooden wall skirting I observed a lot of these dabs of grey colour material distributed somewhat-evenly along all the skirting of my bedrooms. May I know what they are, & should I report them as defects in the skirting? 2) hollow skirting All the skirting in my bedrooms are hollow except for some minor regions where the skirting wraps around the edges of 2 walls. Should I expect solid skirting or is solid skirting a myth for public housing nowadays? 3) weak water flow from outlet beside toilet bowl will try to update this with a video; but in the mean time, does weak water flow count as a defect? 4) erratic water flow from shower heads will also try to update this with a video. My shower head will have terribly weak water pressure for around half a minute after which the pressure will suddenly increase. Is this a defect? 5) Water always accumulated/observed in floor traps' drainage Before the water supply is turned on for my unit, there is already water accumulated in the drainage pipes of all my floortraps. I don't think the drainage pipe is supposed to retain water, as that will invite those drain flies & of course, mosquito. Do I report this? ...to be continued...
  14. Hi fellows, may I know what's wrong with this ceiling? The problem recently aggravated till it's like having light snow in the kitchen daily. May I know approximately how much will it cost to get a contractor to rectify this (as a standalone job; the situation is neither part of, nor due to renovation)?
  15. Hi fellows. May I know if the same type of chalk paint (I assume it ain't just ordinary black paint) that is used to paint the walls (to make it a chalk-"writable" surface) can be used to paint bomb shelter doors? I've heard that due to the fact that the bomb shelter door is made of metal, the chalk paint can't adhere to it assuming it is to be painted directly without making a false (wooden) surface on top of the door?
  16. Actually, is that considered stucco-painting instead of cement-screeding? I've been looking for such tiles? Any recommendations? The few (tiles) I've come across look more like dark granite than real cement-screed. Will the lacquer finishing make the cement screed floor feel very sticky, i.e. too grippy, & take away from the authentic feel of the screed? I understand the lacquer makes the cement screed floor less dusty & more stain-resistant. Is this type of epoxy finish the same as the lacquer finish mentioned above? If I wish to do it, may I know how to describe this extra service to my contractors?
  17. May I interpret this to mean that for the purpose of painting the ceiling white, I really should abandon matex & select Nippon-5000 or even higher-end Nippon/ICI series to have a decent quality finish so that the ceiling paint job lasts for at least 5 years? What's "SS300"? Is it a standard, a brand, or a series? @ne0matr1x, so in the end did you end up using Matex for your ceiling? How's the paint job holding up so far, i.e. 2 years already? Thank you for the links; but does it mean if we do not want any sheen/gloss at all for our ceilings, we have no choice but to select Matex?
  18. May I have your quotation to take a look please? Thank you.
  19. May I know what's the proper task name to use if I were to ask an ID/contractor to produce your living room wall? I like it a lot but may I also check with you that the choice of laminate is still flexible, i.e. as in they're not special laminate meant just for sticking on walls right?Lastly, if you don't mind, may I take a look at your quotation? PM if necessary. Lovely place. Many inspiring. Much thanks.
  20. Bottom-line: do not patronise Sim Lim or Aldephi unless you have friends that are familiar with these areas. For the newer LED-backlit models it ain't so bad, but! If I'm not wrong, if you do read the manual, normally the TV company will recommend a minimum clearance distance between the rear of the TV & the wall. Actually, I think you may be able to find other shops that offer such levels of after-sales service, just that need to do more legwork. Well, you can always ask for their service terms before you even browse their offerings. Know very little about TV, but if it were me, 4K is the minimal I will go for now, if I am getting a new TV. Just some background, film companies are already filming 8K using RED (the brand) cameras for some time already. If I have to choose between a "SMART" TV versus a 4K TV, I will definitely pay for the 4K. 4K, or what the companies market as Ultra-HD, is simply TV that meets a minimum of 3840 pixels × 2160 lines display capability. To put things in perspective, to view your conventional 8MP photos as slideshows on your new TV without up- or down-scaling, i.e. at native resolution, you will have to have a 4K display. All those so-called 'SMART' televisions with YouTube built-in, Pandora service, Spotify, Hulu, Amazon video, etc., I will rather my money goes to the most important component of a television, i.e. the display. Suppose a firm has to develop a TV with $1000, will you rather $900 goes into the display & $100 goes into the 'SMART' feature, or the other way round? & have you asked the salesman to demonstrate the UX (user experience) of using the TV's remote control to access those 'SMART' contents? & have you also asked the sales person whether the full-range contents of those 'SMART' services are accessible in SG, i.e. particularly those music-streaming & video-rental services? For me, I'll offload the 'SMART' features onto a set-top box/game console, i.e. AppleTV, Roku, or even the PlayStation or Xbox, than to have it integrated into my TV. Suppose there are upgrades to those services, do you think you will be comfortable upgrading the firmware of your TV, or changing a $1XX set-top box every couple of years? I'm not even sure all 'SMART' TVs have user-upgradeable firmware. Btw, ask the salesperson if the TV comes with the new integrated digital tuner.
  21. May I know if the type of laminate used to make coloured laminates for carpentry internals, is as durable (in terms of anti-scratch, anti-peeling) as the conventional white PVC? Kinda have the impression that the white PVC kind is tougher( but less attractive of course). Any feedback from your ID regarding this aspect?
  22. Hi, may I have more details about: your ID's source for the Haiku, i.e. is it actually Uni*** Un***? price of the Composite Matrix? if the price is for the short stem model, & if it includes installation of the fan?Thank you.
  23. May I know what're the features of these tiles (compared to other tiles), & why can't it be used in bedrooms? May I know what pergo laminate is?
  24. May I have the quotation for: the main reno, the blinds for 4 roomsthe installation service of the lock specialist? My email address is projectshibumi @ gmail . com. Thank you. Qn1: Just curious, does the lock specialist take care of everything concerning the installation of the lock, or will the hole-cutting be done by contractors from your ID? Qn2: May I know the material your wall-mounted study table is fabricated from? It looks like concrete? Love the double-sided clock & enclaves in the shower room (was also informed by many sources that concealing pipes in HDB is a no-no, so very confused on this point).
