Hello everyone, After missing for so long in Renotalk, decided to come back with another blog. Had sold my previous home in Jalan Membina a few years ago and waited almost 4 years for this condo to complete. While waiting for the developer to build the condo, we have to temporary move to FIL house for almost 2 years in the west. We will be moving back to Alexandra soon. Ok no picture no talk , will be posting up lots of pictures to share the renovation process. Have set aside a budget of total $25k on this renovation including furniture, lighting, roller blinds, kitchen accessories etc. I think everyone is the same, you set aside a budget, your budget sure burst eventually after the whole process. lol, anyone budget not burst, I am going to to you. I always have a phobia of installing ceiling fan, it looks so scary...spin and spin . This time, was convinced to install ceiling fan to save space and to most importantly to find a ceiling fan with energy saving, with LED lights, with DC motor, not too big type because nowadays condo rooms are too small. Renovation start date : 28 Nov 2016. Renovation completed date : 13 Dec 2016. Things done during renovation : 1) TV feature wall and console 2) Dining feature wall 3) Painting 4) False ceiling in living and dining area 5) Electrical works only. My t-blog begins as per below .... ______________________________________________________________________________ Shortcut link of this blog : 1) Furniture we bought 2) Our silly and time saving method of choosing an ID 3) Curtain / blinds recommendation, here ! 4) Dining feature wall here ! 5) TV console and feature wall here ! 6) Foyer design here ! 7) Movers recommendation, here ! 8) Total cost spent, here ! ______________________________________________________________________________

wow..it has been nearly many months since i was here... saw some of you changed your tap also? My mbr tap spoilt after 6months moved in. Cant turn off at all. Called town council to ask people come down to repair. Took them 1 week and no response. Ended up i need to call plumber myself and get it changed. I think a few months ago in our newsletter, somebody commented all positive news about our neighbourhood town council service... i was..."$#$%%$"....they all report all good news. Didnt report these poor service btw..anyone knows what happened to 26D today ah? Storey 9th, someone throw alot of electrical appliances down right? heard that he even threw a dog out..is that true..?

dont worry abt paiseh that u dont sign up. This is the ID job hazard. Sign up rate is low. But once you sign up, they earn alot. Same reason as property agent or insurance agent. Property agent bring pple to see flat. Close deal ratio very low. Insurance agent also like that. They meet so many pple, sign up rate also low. Same theory applies to the ID When comes to reno, if u dont find more and compare, you will lose big le.. You chose between - feeling guilty or saving money lor

12) If using instant heater, get only 777 brand. Dont "Gey kiang" get other brands. I bought dono what brand, its more expensive than 777. So whenever if turn off the heater to apply shower foam and on it again, my heater suddenly turns v v hot and go back to normal. Bought this heater for 2 of my bathroom and both are the same. 13) Dont buy carpet. After a while because of maintenance, i keep my carpet already lol. Waste $ again 14) Grossy white laminate is good. I used 1 year already and my laminate still as new. 15) Dont buy blackout curtain. This will make your room v v dark. Disclaimer: Above are all personal preference. -

Tips: 1) Try not to get so many chrome stuffs. It will tarnish very easily. -Bathroom accessories most are chrome, but no choice cos stainless steel is super super ex -Avoid chrome legged computer table / study table / dining table. 2) Depends on your likings. Cove light is v nice, but maintenance wise is jialat. Imagine a dead insect died inside your cove light area. You need to sweep it down and throw away. It also attract alot of bugs. I didnt do cove lights but this is what my friends told me 3) If on budget, dont really need kitchen sliding door actually. I cooked often, i didnt have any kitchen sliding door. My living room is not affect at all 4) Try to do a built in oven in your kitchen cabinet. This save space 5) Remember to leave some space beside your stove for you to pour your food from your pan/wok 6) Try to do L-shape kitchen if possible. I mean your kitchen top need to be as much space as possible for you to do your cookings 7) Dont do roller blinds. I bought my roller blinds at Ikea. Roller blinds is quite troublesome when compared to curtain. Maintenance also more difficult 8) Hack 1 bedroom for a bigger living room if possible. I regretted so much that i didnt hack one of my bedroom. My living room is so small that each time only can accomodate abt 12pax. So sad. 9) Change change change. Change your toilet sink. Dont use HDB provided sink or from previous owner. Its better you get a sink suitable for your height and size. 10) No need to do any shower curtain. I did shower curtain, and didnt use at all. Lol. Waste $ and now the shower curtain becoming dirty 11) When you do custom-made feature wall, try to do the feature wall on "complicated wall". Dont do it on straight nice wall. Get what i mean? Example, my hse has a beam in the bedroom. Its advisable that you do the feature wall on that beam area. Maximise your $. Do feature wall on straight wall is too easy for the carpenter. Give him some difficulty level -
1) you can start to find ID/contractor already. They need to take abt 2 weeks to get back to you the quotation. then you need abt 1 week to summarise and consider. 2) Yes the standard unit has toilet bowl and sink. But you need to take note, nowadays for new flat, toilet sink is quite low quality. Its recommended you change it. My standard unit given by HDB, the sink is v low, water easily splash out when you brush teeth or wash face.My sink tap spoilt within 1 year. Many such cases in our neighbourhood le I regretted that time i didnt change it. If i want to change it now, its very troublesome Where is your new flat at? I hang my jeans and pants behind my bedroom door. i bought those stainless steel hanger, ID helped to drill hole and install behind the door
