  1. Actually, ceiling fan is not advisable to install on false ceiling. Firstly, the fan will shake slightly during operation, secondly, your false ceiling might not be able to hold the weight of your fan on a long term basis. What your sales guy says is true. The noise is due to a 3-blade fan too near to the ceiling. Most 5-blade fans come with 4" downrod, which give it some distance away from the ceiling. Initially, I was looking at 3-blade fan due to my low ceiling height. But now, I think I have to consider the 5-blade fan.
  2. Browse thru the past resale transactions on HDB website for bishan area, you would have an idea if that price is a good deal. I lived in TPY, many 4-rm flats here are selling around 400k too. 20 yrs old flat can still get bank loan. Only flats > 40 yrs old will have problem.
  3. No worries. Actually, it was Feb this year... Hmm.. this is something new to me cos that salesguy told me they don't do hacking of skirting work... He asked me to get my own contractor to do the work... maybe he was trying to con me. Well, I didn't think of it that way, cos i don't think my contractor is that kind of bad guy... in fact, my bf was saying that $100 was really worth the $$ when he saw how the worker did the work
  4. The last time I dealt with Supreme, the saleguy said standard package does not include hacking of skirting, but include trimming of doors. Supreme workers can't hack skirting, smoothen the walls & lay laminated floor boards in the same day. So if they need to come a few times to your house to do the work, don't they need to charge you more for the transport & labour? Try to get a quote from your contractor for the hacking work, might be cheaper if he is already doing your flooring. As he has the tools, sands n cements in your house, chances are, just a small token to do the extra hacking work. My contractor charge me $100 for the hacking of skirting n touch up.
  5. Why don't you check with HDB? They are the authority.
  6. My experience is diff from yours... My contractor hacked my kitchen floor to a certain depth, applied a new cement & laid new tiles... But the flooring is kind of uneven... some grout gaps are wider, some tiles are a bit higher then its neighbour... The tiler told me it was due to the poor quality of this batch of kitchen tiles... He said there is nothing much he could do. Rough surface between tiles? These are the grout lines. How to polish without damaging the tiles? Well, if your contractor said it can be polished, get him to do the work, else don't pay him
  7. Under the humid env in Sgp, it is hard to maintain a mozzie-free garden. Unless you check every corner every day, else can't be sure. My neighbour has at least 5 pots of plants, & it is the home of some lizards & ants
  8. Your neighbour really very bad leh This one very troublesome... might spoil neighbourhood relationship... one way is to log a complaint with your town council... get them to talk to your neighbour... cos by right, she should only take over the farther side of the pillar... which is the wall in front of her bedroom, not the living room... the wall just outside your main door should be given priority to the corner unit... or else where to put your things? Another suggestion is, buy a looong bench... just nice to fit into that space... that she cannot shift liao... put whatever things you like onto that bench I am also staying in the corner unit... my neighbour's son likes to do planting too... but luckily they didn't expand their biz to my side...
  9. They all have their pros & cons. Do a search on this forum for related articles. I have laminated flooring in my bedrooms. Initially, yes, there will be hollow feel & "cracking" noise when walking on it. But after a week or so, when the flooring settles down, you will feel less of all these. 3 mths later, you probably will get used to it
  10. I think no. My living room is terrazzo, when I asked my reno contractor this same qtn, his answer was no. What he could do was to polish it to smoothen the chipped surface.
  11. I do not think it is due to the short blade of your KDK that fails to produce a good wind effect. Of course the shorter the blade, the smaller area its wind effect can cover. That's why applefreak bought a 60" fan for her huge living room. One of the reason could be the KDK fan has no rod, which makes it very close to the ceiling. All ceiling fan need a reasonable gap between the fan blades & ceiling in order to circulate/move the wind. When you go to coffee shops, you might notice they installed 3 blades ceiling fan with long rod. These fans do produce reasonably good wind. From what I know, 3 blades fan is usually meant for industrial purpose, hence their power is pretty strong. I am still hesitating to go for 3 blades fan or not for my house due to my low ceiling, reason bcos of its weak wind coverage. BTW, as for your KDK fan, was it installed by KDK dealer? Not a good job though. You should consider lodging a complaint to KDK & make them fix your wiring problem. I have seen a few pics of this KDK short-neck fan in some HDB flats, unlike yours, all of them were covered up with housing.
  12. Hi Shawn, welcome to the forum I have been cracking my head on this ceiling fan issue... My flat ceiling is only 8ft high... Was previously looking at 3-blade fan due to its shorter neck, but many people said 3-blade fan produces little wind... Unless you are standing directly under the fan, else you won't feel the wind... Do you think I should go for 5-blade fan for the stronger wind? I am considering Fanco Aroma 5-blade fan now. Thanks.
  13. Oh like that... I thought there is a table or formula for everyone to find out their element group without consulting a FS master... don't know what my bazi is leh... Will find out & post again
  14. Not Bro lah, is Sis here You asked if we have lobang to get cheap ceiling fan for HDB rite? Goto to the hyperlink below, you will see a forumer by the name of "bro" who posted some comments. Send him a PM for ceiling fan quotes. Just a note, he has lobang for this brand called Fanco. If you are looking for other brands, he won't be able to help you. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...2525&st=200
  15. Hi, for those who installed the Fanco Aroma ceiling fan, do you happen to know if its weight is less than 6kg? This is a requirement according to HDB guideline. The fan looks very huge & heavy to me. Was in Tai Yong last weekend, trying to feel the air from diff fans. But the saleguy did not want to reveal it though I specifically asked him what the weight is for that Aroma. He simply replied me something like "aiyah, if you are worried abt the fan weight, then no need to install ceiling fan lah" Thanks.
  16. You can try to PM one of our forumer, Bro. I got Fanco fan quotes from him recently, price wise is good compare to some of the lightings shop.
  17. I have seen the catalog of crestar... all are 5 blades with 4" downrod... if I were to add lights kit... worst, even lower... not only my bf can reach the fan blade... I think I can also reach it though I am not tall at all... I think I will go for 3 blades with no downrod
  18. If I am not wrong, newer HDB flats are of higher ceiling. But for old flats like mine, 8ft is the norm. Actually, 7ft is too low in my view. The guideline given by HDB is 2.4m or 7.87ft. But our ceiling is already 8ft, what to do? We are left with no choice Does Elmark have non-aluminum blades for their 3-blade fan? Amasco has acrylic blade, which is a safer option. Before you install the fan, should start educating your kids, too dangerous to jump up & touch the fan
  19. Hi Mr Chong, would like to know which group of element I belong to, ie. metal, wood, water, fire, earth. How to calculate? Thanks.
  20. Very simple, to HDB, last mth is last month, already over liao. In case you have changed job leh, they want to make sure if you are still with the same company
  21. The last time I was in the lighting shop, the sales girl measured for me & said 16" for the Aroma fan. The spec of this fan also stated the height as 40cm or 15.75". How come yours is shorter by 3"? Did you install without the downrod? Hi Red, my ceiling height is 8 ft or 96", just a bit higher than yours. Putting a Aroma is going to very low. I am currently considering the Fanco 3-blade.
  22. Unless you are living in the top floor or condo unit, else your ceiling is probably not that high. Doing a full ceiling will make your ceiling even lower. Also, full false ceiling is probably out-of-fashion now, people usually go for L-box
  23. I paid $1,300 for it. Can't remember the exact length now, I think it is around 8 or 9 feet.
