  1. lilithfiend: Ya, I was the one who was crazy over cement screed... I started a t-blog a while back but due to inactivity it somehow dropped off the face of the earth...will set up soon! samgalz: oooh good progress on the house!
  2. Ya man... okay la, at least you know that he's still monitoring. ^^ And yeah, finally in the DX family... after... 7 whole months...
  3. Alamak, Edmund a bit suay ah... anyway I just put my downpayment with him... so I guess he can get his car fixed... kekekeke...
  4. Hey, same as mine (though mine is corner unit). Nice and cosy!
  5. Hmmm... well I'm also intending to do up my place, also Clementi 3-room, I'm doing everything except one bathroom (including hacking off all current fixtures, tiles and a couple of walls and rebuilding them, rewiring and change piping etc), and that came up to about $27K. So honestly, it does still look a bit expensive to me, especially the tiles bit. I guess it does depend on what kind of tiles you're intending to use though.
  6. Welcome to Renotalk! Err... wow... that's really quite a big amount for just the kitchen and the bathrooms. You might want to get a few more quotes from contractors to see if they can give you a better price as well. Cheers.
  7. Hey fftw, you managed to go down to Sansei? How was the sinks range like?
  8. Hi Lynn, I love the cement screed flooring! Are your toilet walls also cement screed?
  9. Lynn, you might want to start your own t-blog, instead of posting your pictures in everyone's threads. That way, when people view multiple threads, they won't see repeated postings. Plus, you get to update at one place.
  10. Hey guys, I'm also thinking to do concrete screed flooring for my entire house (living, kitchen and 2 bedrooms). I think there's more houses with these types of floorings being featured in magazines like Square Rooms... Let me check and see..
  11. Hi ossify, Do you have much more to go? I'm still debating whether to get a contractor, or to get it done with me coordinating various subcons... especially since I have so much leave to burn...
  12. It's exactly like the old house I used to live in when I was a kid! Very nice layout, and very spacious. Congrats on your new home!
  13. Oh! That sounds lovely.... and eggplant is delicious anywhere!! Just out of curiosity, you used ground black pepper? For mine, I cut up some baby red potatoes and onions, and then tossed them with butter, olive oil, pepper, chopped up basil and parsley, and added a dash of paprika. Bunged it in the oven for 40 minutes at 200 degrees C... ARGH all this food talk is making me drool...
  14. ... yes. Unfortunately, it WAS a few months. 2.5, to be exact We be very slow at these things. Oooh that's nice! But yeah, desserts tend to be a bit harder. My oven is used for savouries, like meats and shepherd's pies, and sometimes tarts. Have you tried herb-baked potatoes?
  15. Haha... moving in takes time la! It took my hb and I a few months to finish all the unpacking hahahaha oh dear I think I'm scaring you. Nicee... It's quite rare for guys to bake (though I have a few guy friends who do bake...) When did you pick it up?
  16. Your place looks fantastic! Congrats on the moving in... BTW who's the baker in the house?
  17. Hi Mickey! Your house is really shaping up to be very beautiful!!!
  18. Congrats on getting such an ideal home! It's really God's blessing!
  19. Hmmm... it's actually hollow leh... weird? o_OOO Anyway, we met up with a contractor about 3 weeks back; I'd been in contact with him after seeing a couple of his works on RT, and I finally got him to do the measurements and quote us. I just received the updated detailed quote, but I'm not sure if I should post it up for comments? I've also contacted an ID firm with my specs, to get a comparison.

    Red Bedroom

My bedroom is red, but Hawthorne is right, after a while you'll get sian of the colour; plus white patches will appear on it. I suspect it might be in connection with the humidity of the room; but it's also entirely possible that the darker the colour, the greater the contrast, so it will seem more obvious. My advice is, if you want to do an all-red bedroom, to go with deep shade of red; something like burgundy would be nice. Alternatively, you could try a deep shade of purple with tinges of red (such as plum) as that will not be so striking, and yet still create that sensuous feel. Pair it with the right materials like black velvets and silks, or jewel tones, and it will look fantastic.
  21. Hi, Please quote me the following services: Hack floor and wall tiles for all rooms (3.5 room flat, 81 sqm) Tiling for 1 bathroom Thanks.
  22. The floor lamp sounds like a good idea...
  23. Hmm, I was just speaking with a contractor this afternoon (he came to take measurements of my place), also regarding the number of downlights to put, and his advice was to have six in total (2 each on the long sides and 1 each on the short sides). Not too sure about the hanging light... his suggested solution was to do a false ceiling there (also since the kitchen ceiling is lower-- you might want to check if yours is also lower too) which won't end up looking as tin-tei...
