Call your Town Council for recommended contractors. they have a list of recommended ones. The prices are not cut throat type, coz they are monitored by Town councils. -
Normally How Movers Charge For Items?
donut88 replied to Misc100's topic in Home Maintenance & Repairs
180 to 200 is too ex lah!! for these 3 items that TS mentioned, it should only be like $100. TS, please call Hup Hing Transport. you can find the contact in the web. -
forget abt ikea and courts.... their stuff CMI and NOT cheap.... ikea's stuff are not durable. please take note. you can only buy their small items. But not big items like cupboards, bedframes etc.... use 2-3 yrs, it will fall away... Courts? Well, u like the designs, then ok. really up to individual preference.

Anyone Repair Ceiling Cracks Before?
donut88 replied to Misc100's topic in Home Maintenance & Repairs
you stay in HDB? if yes, call your town council to come and see. they will do a proper repair for you and may even co-share the cost with you. -
I'm surprised to hear about this. The indudgle shop is the one at Balestier Road, right? Dun talk to the china gal.... she's very blur... Talk only to Rosalyn. (local gal). I think that's her name... she's the senior staff there. I think there's another guy... he's from malaysia.... he also very blur. dun blame him... he's quite new. i bought alot of stuff from them... and i got no hiccups from them. Except for a Joven heater, but its not their fault. Really got no stock everywhere at that time. i called other shops and even the main supplier. they all confirmed got no stock. One tip for you: if the shop is owing you something, call them everyday to pester them... This tip applies to all shops....

What To Use To Clean Joints Between Homogeneous Tiles?
donut88 replied to newhouse's topic in Home Maintenance & Repairs
ok, i finally use the baking soda.... the verdict is that its good to use!!! its effective to remove the stains. i was surprised by its cleaning power. put some on the stained grout, then put some hot water. use a toothbrush or some small brush and scrapped it. then u can put some more powder to clean further and of course got no strong smell or wont hurt your fingers. its alot safer and very health friendly than bleach Using bleach is no good lah.... your feet will be stepping on the floors all the time... if you didnt clean away the bleach properly, then bleach will get into your feet's skins.... and u will still need patience and time to do many grouts. i did 3 grouts, and it was tiring...... -
if change door location, then must need new door frame. cannot use back the same door frame. well, there will be a diff between 2 door frames. it depends on how u choose yr door frame, and how "fussy" you are.

Sure, DIY or home fix shops are selling this. another warning about DIY films, is that it will shrink over time.

Seeking Expertise Advise Urgently
donut88 replied to hippoheyhey's topic in HDB New/Resale Flats, Executive Condominiums
My advise for you is to wait.... especially when retrenchments are hanging around in both of your jobs... why take the risks of having financial problems in paying yr house loans? Just wait and see.... at least for 2009. Then 2010, see what happens...... -
you can try Home Niche. they are at Jln Bt Merah. i bought mine there ......6 poles. i think its only $398 with installations (i dun need brackets)....... one year warranty i have seen Ezi living's system..... not nice (too crudely made) and costs more....... they use those metal ball bearings.... this one wont last long......

Have.... i'm actually install this kind of Llumbar film you are asking for. its called reflective film. Outside cannot look inside, but inside can look outside. But this is only useful if the inside is darker than outside. If inside is brighter, then outside can see inside. For me, i want this because during daytime, outside cannot see inside. Its good enough for me coz no one is at home during day time. During night time, when my house lights are on, then outside can see inside. But i dun mind, coz we are at home. This reflective film is very common in every brand. Each brand sure have. You can buy and DIY install yourself, BUT if u are not skillful, there will be bubbles on your window. So, u see whether you want to save money by DIY or not.......

good to hear that u finally settle yr tinting. dun rush into doing all yr windows if budget is tight. the good thing is film installation can be done anytime u want. the installation process is not a big fuss and will not make a big mess on your floors. For my unit, it takes just 2 workers to do all windows in about 3-4 hours. (tinting and roller blinds install)

See... Llumar is highly recommended. This company does alot of commercial projects tender.... so they shld know their stuff. I was also impressed by this Llumbar salesguy. The reason why i decided to go with Llumbar was tat when he came to my unit to see the windows. I was thinking of fixing films and roller blinds together from Llumbar. He saw my master bedroom windows and he said "I know what i'm gonna to say to you will not help me in my sales, but i have to be honest. Your master bedroom windows dun need to have roller blinds coz you have such a beautiful view. Its so rare to have such a good view. Having roller blinds will only spoil it." Just by this statement he made, i decided to close this deal with him on the spot. The view from my bedroom overlooks totally unblocked view to as far as eyes can see, and i see above tree tops all the way. My master bedroom windows are not small. it needs at least 4 big pcs of roller blinds of 5.5 feet length each. He would have keep quiet abt how he feels and make me install these 4 big pcs and he could have earn more.....

I have also talked to Perfect Window film company....in fact the guy came down to see my home and went thru with me the products they have I'm not impressed by Perfect coz the guy didnt really explain the properties of the film and what is necessary for me.... he's like giving whatever i asked for and not probing into what is necessary Perfect is cheap, i must agree... i think its like half price of what Llumar's prices. The guy cant even explain where the Perfect films come from..... I suspect its OEM from some country. 15 years warranty is really a long time to go.... So dun think too much or worry alot.... 15 years for the price you pay now.... divide out per year, and you will realise its really cheap to pay. You may not even stay in tat home for 15 years!!! Safest is go for reputable brands.... you wont go wrong.

I'm using laminate and tiles also.... My T-joint is also laminate colour. And the joint is rather flat.... not so obvious lah. got a slight hump, but its not that ugly. rather flat.... the older types are really ugly and its like a rectangular block. Now the new type is already very nice.... got hump but its flat. where did u see the s/s types? in shopping malls? someone's home?
-
yup, search for my thread. i'm using Llumbar brand (USA company). its damm good. shop is Window Cool. you can search for its contacts in yellowpages.com or google. Llumbar makes some of the solar films for 3M. they have a range of tints, UV, Heat rejections film for u to choose.

Cpf Vs Monthly Installments
donut88 replied to quoo's topic in HDB New/Resale Flats, Executive Condominiums
well, yes, its true that OA will be wiped out for yr flat purchase...... but there're ways to avoid this, if u know what i mean. one way is to use the OA $$ for investments first.... then after settling the flat purchase paperwork in HDB, then u put back the money to OA. another way is if u are selling flat and buying another flat, then u can play with timing. Time your buying of the new flat so that your sales proceed of your present flat does not go into OA yet, so that HDB does not wipe out. for me, i did it the 2nd way........ -
Cpf Vs Monthly Installments
donut88 replied to quoo's topic in HDB New/Resale Flats, Executive Condominiums
it depends on how much reserve you have, despite of paying high installments. if you are paying high installments without any reserves, then you are in deep ****. i'm paying $1400+ for monthly installments, but i got $200k sitting in CPF OA... so i'm not worried at all. combined income $8k. On HDB loan. -
u got yr sofa from Univonna? is it good? i got mine also from univonna.... furniture mall branch. its really good. 3 seater half leather. really comfy with lots of big deep seating and back support.
-
oh damm.... where did u buy it from? if u have not ask price from Mega Discount Store, then it's a waste... they can give u a better price.
-
No! for big furnitures, dun buy from Ikea. examples like cupboards, bed frames, sofas..... for small furnitures like coffee table, small display stuff, kitchenwares, its ok to get from Ikea
