All of the following designs can be found on my blog: Inspiration ABOUT THIS THREAD While it may be titled "Living Room Inspiration", there are far more than just living room designs - you'll find inspiration for your bedroom and dining room as well. I started this thread some time ago as I was rather sick of the cookie-cutter designs that most interior designers in Singapore seem to offer their clients, and the little guidance they offer their clients in seeing the design concept from start, to end [i.e. furnishings]. You'll probably see that for most of my designs, the built-in components that I advocate are either kept to a minimum, or are designed to be visually non-obtrusive - that's because I believe that the quality of furniture tends to be better, and that they tend to define a room's purpose, hence they should be the key focal point of a room. Do feel free to ask for advice, be it on this thread, or on my blog. LOOKBOOKS THUS FAR Monochromatic Luxe (see below) Modern Pop Traditional Home Misc. I have 12 downlights for my living area, space is about 5500 * 3870. Is 8W enough for that area? Would like to read on my sofa, I intend to buy 8 COOL, and 4 corners in WARM, these are 2 different switches, so I'm thinking of switching on WARM when watching movie in living room. But is 8 downlights with 8W sufficient for reading ?! I have dining lights and entrance light. Not too sure if the whole house will be dim or not :/

Hello fellow Renotalkers, I'm new here though my husband already is a regular. I created a blog to document the joy and experience of building our home with my hubby but silly me, I had meant to place the content in T-blog but confused with the main blog platform also on Renotalk. Here are my first two posts. BLOG - CHAPTER 1: ID Search Months ahead of our key collection, we were contemplating whether to engage an ID or not. My hubby was very excited as he had been looking forward to start on our renovation project and he was very confident of doing up the 3D-drawings himself. I must say, he did some pretty decent perspectives for the home. But we still went ahead to get some quotes from ID first… Click to continue --------------------- BLOG - CHAPTER 2: Our 4RM BTO Space STEP 2: Space Evaluation (4RM BTO) Here's an overview of how our bare 4-rm BTO space looks like LIVING/DINING AREA We opted out of the floor tiles (living/dining/bedroom only) and doors option in order to get alternatives that suit our liking. View from our main door. ….. Click to continue Chapter 2 -------------------------- Anyone here who might be find this layout familiar? Guess most flats are laid out similarly these days. Moving forward, I will continue with my updates from here onwards.

Update about the console (link: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z09.2.9.45.Ie6Rb6&id=36289930044&_u=q1q6ekj81370) Managed to clean up the house and had it set up today. It comes without the legs attached. To assemble, We only need to screw in the legs. And put in the shelf for the middle compartment. Whole console is made of solid wood, very heavy. All set up! The biggest problem we have with it, is with the sliding doors. They do not slide smoothly. Needed quite some work. We had to sand the grooves (where the wheels run), apply lubricant, loosen the bolt. A lot of trial and error to get it finally sliding smoothly. But for 600 SGD, it was a pretty good buy. When we received it few weeks ago, it was properly packed within a wooden crate support.

Guys, I need your suggestion in my kitchen cabinet. I've just gotten key for my new 4 room HDB not long ago. Due to budge constrain I'm doing renovation bit by bit. I've got this contractor asking me $2.4k for kitchen cabinets ,22 ft in total ( 11 bot & 11 wall) exclusive of countertop. I'm not sure what's the company name, I found this from my dad's construction work place. They are currently doing cabinets for Condos. I check the quality, The workmanship looks quite okay. I'm not sure if the price is reasonable. Any suggestion? Or any recommendation?

Hi, what I meant is the electrical light switches you got for you house. Where did you get it from?
  19. 1 point
Hi, the quotation was given to you by the contractor company was a bit expensive. I just had my house renovated, a 3 room resale flat and my contractor quote me a reasonable price which you could find it outside. If you are going to sign a contract with the firm outside, you will not be able to check the wood quality before you sign. My contractor has an in house carpentry workshop and i will be able to check the materials before signing the contract with them. I do not have to pay extra charges when i asked them to install some hangers on the wall in the toilet. You can email the list of things that you want to do to sales@techone.com.sg or call gavin at 83334130. You just have to say it is reference by devin and he will give you a special discount.

Don't you think that washing machine should adopt different movement for each fabric type instead of one single tumble motion for different fabrics? LG's new 6 Motion Technology introduces a new way to care for clothes, similar to hand wash. The Direct Drive Motor precisely controls the action of tub, allowing for up to 6 motions in which the washer combines different combinations of wash motions to selected cycle to ensure perfect clean. Blogging from my mobile while on a gym cycling machine now... Haha don't judge. I need to keep moving my left knee on low resistance motion to regain my range of motion since my ACL reconstruction surgery 2 months ago... So might as well save time and blog as well.. Anyway here goes.... Quotation - what can I say... I cannot be any less direct when I say that #CalvinTan is the CHEAPEST of all the IDs that I compared with.. (see above post for comparison with other IDs that I met) I honestly think that I am doing quite a lot of works.. And my quotation came up to 35.5k only.. And it would've only amounted to 29k if not for my solid wooden bench and the ceiling feature that I'm planning to do to spice up my Scandinavian theme! (provided my fiance approves.. Heh Heh... Anyway "fiance" shall be referred herein and after as "CFO" - Chief Finance Officer) Another ID quoted so much for quartz kitchen counter top.. For #CalvinTan, it was just a small fraction more expensive than solid surface top.. So obviously we are going for quartz! Happy happy.. I hope #CalvinTan doesn't take this as a cue to increase his price, but honestly, my experience with other IDs is that my fiance and I were trying so hard to remove items from our quotation to fit into our reno budget... AND NOW, #CalvinTan quotation is so unexpectedly cheap that we are planning to add even more aesthetic items into our quotation!! (such as: - quartz top for master bathroom sink - overlay master toilet Wall tiles - ceiling feature white beams - solid wood bench with woody grains.. Yum yum.. - white wall tiles with grey grouting overlay for exposed kitchen walls - full kitchen carpentry! - Complete false ceiling coverage for living and dining area - wooden trimmings for my hdb window frames to cover the ugly aluminium white.. - Even a nice glass door for my kitchen with modified handle to wooden type to spice up Scandinavian theme...) And yes, my quotation is alrdy inclusive of a sample size of electrical points (totalling about 1.3k).. Which usually other IDs don't even include into their quotation. So actually, my quotation (when comparing with other IDs) is only 27.7k!! Also, no GST! Can you believe it! NO FREAKINGGGGGG GST! Hahahahahahaahahaha I really feel like my friend and I unearthed a gem.. I would be happy to share his contact and my quotation.. Just reply here and I will get to you as soon as I can.. Good things must share. Hahaha.. More posts coming up about his designs, personality & my other concerns!! Cheers people

Hello! I have recently stumbled upon the concept of 3D wall panels and featured walls and am highly interested in installing it into my living room. Seems really interesting and I think will really make my living room stand out! Chinese new year just around the corner!! I first saw this concept on the main page of renotalk by Advance 3D Panel. Thought it looked really nice with some Asian themed designs! Did anyone see it? Any opinions/thoughts? Anyone here install any of these 3D wall panels/feature walls? How did y'all find it? Any other companies to recommend also? Thanks

Hi all, I'm new here, I chance upon this thread through google, searching for a storeroom rack, interestingly this thread has all the vendors needed to buy a storeroom rack. So I follow all the members advise, I call up all the related vendors, do some homework and check out their pricing vs quality, vs good look, vs metal or wood that sort of research. Something is missing out, I check out an ads from olx, and I found this guys selling the full metal storeroom rack, from the look of the website, I think this guys are quite new, so I went down to their warehouse and check it myself. I'm totally sold. Its a white, fully metal rack, just nice for my storeroom. So I bought 2 to form an L shape. In fact, for the record, I went down to check-in most of the vendor in our thread here. I'm not advertising for them, neither do I want to be flooded with pm the next day. check this link yourself, http://storeroomrack.com I'm doing this just for the benefits of all the members. Anyway, carrefour is gone, the other places you can check for storeroom rack are Giant, and some of the bigger DIY stores in Singapore. Compare around you will eventually found something you like. So much of research, just to get one thing, sure looks like I have a lot of time....and my next mission is getting a ceiling fan.
