  1. At the 4 corners, you can see 4 circles, they can be taken out and it will reveal the screw.
  2. Flip down for me too, easier to access the front of the DVD player, USB port etc. For pull out drawers, wouldn't it be even more difficult to access the mains, since drawers will have a back panel blocking the mains on the wall?
  3. yes, since the switch is higher Ampere, it should be ok. I change my hob 3pin plug to connect to my legrand switch too.
  4. Yes, a carpenter can do re-laminate (defintely change door too) but it will be expensive. I engage a carpenter to relaminate my bedroom wardrobe 2 full height sliding doors and it cost me $320 (that is one of the lowest quote I get). Alternatively, you can get sticker laminate and DIY yourself, which is much cheaper. I used that for my kitchen cabinet, pretty easy to DIY if you know how to remove the door and put it back.
  5. Agree that it is normal. It will be difficult to take/place things into the cabinet if the cabinet is deep and your door can only open 90 degree. Even more difficult if the cabinet has a narrow door.
  6. You can try those Hardware shop at Jalan Besar (Kelantan Lane) if not can try Taobao。 https://world.taobao.com/search/search.htm?_ksTS=1493182990790_313&spm=a21bp.7806943.20151106.1&search_type=0&_input_charset=utf-8&navigator=all&json=on&q=铜色厨锁&cna=OWg3EQODliACAbYT68bl94wT&callback=__jsonp_cb&abtest=_AB-LR517-LR854-LR895-PR517-PR854-PR895
  7. My 42" Baby LED fan is bought at JB YES Electrical Supply (https://www.facebook.com/YES-Electrical-Supply-143969298961977/). I bought this at 358RM (including GST) in May 2016. You can Whatsapps them for price and availability prior going down but they may take few days to get back, so just keep messaging them. My other 52" fan is bought at M1 (or M One) electrical shop in Bukit Indah, I bought it at 464RM (including GST) in Mar 2016 (other shop selling more than 500rm at that time). There is another shop Starworld (near Tompoi lighting) also sell Deka brand. You can see some Deka fan display there as the shop I bought does not display any Deka fan. Neverthess, my model wasn't display at Starworld, so I just buy without seeing the actual thing. In Singapore, I saw Kow Yee (a renovation contractor) carry Deka fan at their Kaki Bukit showroom http://www.kowyee.com.sg/contact/, but not all models and are more expensive. Warranty will be more convenient if you buy in Singapore though. GST is also payable for values above SG$150 per person when coming back. I only start using the Deka fan in Jul 2016, so far no problem. I like the 4 speed as my old house ceiling fan is only 3 speed and the lowest speed sometimes is still too strong at night. Mine is with LED light, but the LED light is not very bright. My small girl like the Blue LED light that comes with the 42" fan.
  8. You may want to have a look at Deka brand (http://deka.my/product-overview/#!). I am using this brand for few months, not too bad. I am using is 56" 5 blades and 42" 3 blades though.
  9. Just to add, for those planning to do invisible grille and floor (parquet) varnishing (or any dusty work). I would recommend to do floor varnishing first, coz that is a dusty work (if your contractor sand the floor). The invisible grille will collect alot of dust and is very very difficult to clean. This is from my own experience
  10. Just to share with you guys, not endorsing any company. I got quotes from Invisystech ($10psf), Le-home ($9psf), Le-gate (verbal quote around $12-$13, can't really remember now) and IGC ($7.50psf). I went for IGC since it is cheapest and they using 316 grade cable and with no small print on the coating (some company have small print on the coating which they claim can only be seen when you stand very near). My main requirement is it must be 316 grade cable, as I understand 316 is marine grade cable and should not rust easily or at all. Some of the differences I noted from the different company - cables from Europe, and claim to be better quality than China-make thus more expensive. - used special plastic to tighten the cables, claim to be more durable and will not rust etc. - grilles which can be open, as they mount around a frame. DIdn't ask LeGrilles to quote, else probably a good savings of another $250, based on $6.80psf (if they also use 316 grade cables).
  11. 1) Change the cabinet (or cabinet position) 2) Saw away the top of the cabinet, or bottom (cabinet may be raised by planks). Not easy to saw though unless you have some carpentry experience. 3) Change the aircon trunking to a smaller one (if aircon pipe is not too big). This probably will need professional. 4) Customize a wood plank with similar color (or laminate) to the side of cabinet and fix it to the back (with L-bracket etc) of the cabinet and make it look like a customize wardrobe. To get exact same colour may be difficult.
  12. Maybe some renovation can still be started, like flooring, windows, kitchen or bedroom (if living room air-con piping does not pass through these wall). But still recommended to have aircon planned out first. Anyway, 1 more air-con should not cost too much difference, better to have it installed now than regret in future.
  13. Run the conduit all the way to back plate (mine didn't). Next time you can just open up the faceplate and try to pull/push the cable through. If there are bends along the conduit, it will be more difficult, so try to keep them straight as much as possible. Take note of where the conduits run behind the wall, you don't wanner drill a hole through them in future should you decided to drill a hole to hang painting etc.
  14. For the cables, you can get someone to hack the wall partially (which will be very messy) and hide a conduit (PVC pipe) or trunking into the wall. A thicker conduit will be easier to pull the cable but it will means more hacking. I am using trunking as it flat and does not require deep hacking, I have no plan of changing the cable in future though. In future when you want to change, tape the new cable to the old cable and pull it through (or use a cable puller).
  15. It is not too difficult if you have DIY experience. Below is briefly what I had done for my DIY cabinet. Basically, I just fixed up the cabinets without the doors, which are top, bottom, left and right planks (no back plank for my purchased) and a horizontal plank in between. The doors can be fixed after the cabinets are up, as this will 1) reduce the weight 2) let you access the back of the cabinet 3) door will be more align if you fixed it later. The cabinets come with bracket to hold the cabinet, take measurement of where the bracket should be after the cabinets is assembled. After measurement marking is make, drill one or two holes and screw the bracket loosely to the wall. Mount the cabinet on the loosely screw bracket, and screw the cabinet to the bracket. Once it is mount on the bracket, the weight will be on bracket, adjust the cabinet until it is straight (with water bulb), right angle etc before tightening the screw to the wall. The rest of the bracket measurement are easier once the cabinet is supported by the top left/right bracket. Continue to drill the others holes for other bracket and mount the cabinet. Take out top left/right bracket after all other bracket are fixed, and drill the remaining holes which I did not drill earlier and finally mount them back again. I had previously DIY IKEA billy book shelf (not wall mount type though) for my previous house, I find Taobao cabinet heavier though it is smaller in size). Taobao cabinet wood plank are more solid than IKEA book shelf (knock on them I can feel the difference). My previous Ikea cabinet shelving sink after few years of using. Taobao cabinet looks quite heavy duty and I think it should last longer (still too early to tell as I just mount them few months only). Take note there may be weight difference if your IKEA cabinet is those with not so solid planks.
  16. I would recommend not to pull the fibre cable directly, as false ceiling are mounted with metal support with sharp edges and may cut the fibre cable if you pull too hard. Instead run a conduit across the false ceiling from the termination point to TV console. After that, push a cable puller (not sure if this is the right name) into the conduit and let it come out from the other end. Once the cable puller head is pulled out at the TV console, use masking tape to tape strongly your fibre optics to the end of cable puller (from your TP) and pull the cable puller out from the TV console until the fibre cable is out. There are PVC and Corrugated conduits. PVC conduits are smooth and easy to pull the cable puller but it is a long straight pipe, thus it can't turn corner (unless you bend it, which require other tool). Corrugated conduits are flexible but is more difficult to pull the cable puller as it may get stuck sometimes due to the bends of the flexible pipe (do not pull hard when it stuck, instead pull and push until you get it through the bend). You can use a mixture of PVC and corrugated conduits, as they can be joined with junction box. See http://www.wancoelectric.com.sg/products/pvc-conduits/, if not sure what is conduits or junction box. All these can be easily purchase (cheaply) at the many hardware shop at Jalan Besar (Kelantan Lane). Never pull hard on the fibre cable directly, they may beak easily. If the TP to TV console is a straight path, put a long straight PVC conduits into the false ceiling and use a junction box to connect Corrugated conduits at both ends. If is not straight path and there is no opening (no downlights etc), you may need to cut open at the turning point to access the conduits (use a junction box at bend etc). If you have never cut a false ceiling, I would not recommend you to do it as it will be very dusty. However, if you really need to cut, use a scotch tape to tape along the path you wanna cut, it will reduce the dust (but will still be dusty). You can tape a plastic bag along the cutting path to collect the dust. Cut it in one nice piece as you need to put it back.
  17. I never do video recording, the battery is still not lasting. Mine come with 2 batteries and charger, just charge/change the battery everytime battery flat. I could connect it to a powerbank, which can easily be mounted next to doorviewer but so far I have yet to do it. I live in a quiet corner, hardly anyone come to the door. If yours is alot of movement, probably the battery usage will be higher. Do ask the seller if battery is lasting before buying. The model you looking at seems to be 3500mah battery.
  18. With app function will require the door viewer to have wifi, don't think it will ever last 6 months. My wireless door view battery last less than 1 week, battery is 2500mah. Never really used the apps to view other than just playing it out.
  19. That can be buy from Taobao, https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=545073386959&ali_refid=a3_420841_1006:1122748661:N:储物书柜:72614f237cae52a8856aa8423c91d641&ali_trackid=1_72614f237cae52a8856aa8423c91d641&spm=a231k.8165028.0782702702.38.Oeh3A1. But need to add in cost of getting it installed/assembled (either DIY or if you can find someone to do it) and shipment fees.
  20. How big is the cabinet you are looking at (2 doors, 4 doors, 6 doors etc). Does the kitchen cabinet come assembled? If not, your contractor will need to assemble it for you, more charges. If yes, shipping probably will be higher. What is the charges for doing such cabinet locally? If is not alot of different, better to get them done locally, for the warranty and usually customized cabinet should be nicer. Shipping from overseas, there is also risk that your kitchen cabinet is damaged during the transportation. I would recommend you to buy overseas only if you know how to install it yourself, as there will be no additional cost of contractor. You will need the tools as well (wall drill with drill-bit, water-bulb for alignment, hand-drill for drilling screws etc). I have self install a 2 door kitchen cabinet myself (with no help) and is not too difficult. More doors most likely you will need additional help. Mine is a simple glossy white cabinet. It is quite nice, accept when you open it, there is no back board behind (you can see the kitchen wall when the door is open). The side of the cabinet is also not glossy as the door. Take note of these should you be buying overseas. Nevertheless, I bought white glossy laminate from taobao and paste it over the wall and side, it still looks ok.
  21. I had bought 8 roller blinds from taobao for 811rmb (excluding shipping fee to SG). I was quoted about SGD1700 for 6 rollers blinds just for my balcony but these included shipping and installation fee. There are 2 things which i don't like about the blinds, the gap between the PVC blind and the edge is a little too wide. Thus, if you have 2 roller blinds side by side, you can see a big gap between the 2 blinds (I would have expected a smaller gap). They are installed in balcony and gap is not too annoying for me, if is bedroom it would be less desirable. Another thing is the rod at the bottom of the PVC blind, it is plastic and is very flimsy and get blow up easily by wind due to the light weight. However, I just realize that the rod below can be replaced with metal rod and are sold in taobao too. I had already ordered the new metal rods and will be shipping over soon. When buying roller blinds from taobao, few things to take note of: 1) Roller blinds + shipping fee + installation fee, is it much cheaper than Singapore. If no, then don't bother. If the blinds are too long, check with your courier if they can send it back (most courier will not be able to take too long items by air). You may then consider to use shipping but courier will be more expensive if you just buy blinds alone (take this opportunity to buy more bulky items as most shipping courier goes by per cubic metre). 2) Take the measurement correctly, Width and height, they calculate the roller blind by area. If you not sure how to measure, send them a photo and chat them (if you can communicate in Chinese with them). Also let them know if the blind is install within or outside window flame. 3) Choose the roller blind string mechanism (I go for the most expensive one which is just 10 or 20rmb more). Choose fully/semi blackout blinds, colour etc. Choose shop to buy from (just type 卷帘 in the search box). 4) Can you get a installer to install for you. I installed the blinds myself so no issue for me. 5) Ask for metal rod instead of plastic rod (卷帘铝合金下管), think most of them are plastic rod by default. Hope this can help those who interested to buy from taobao.
  22. Don't think there will be any CE approved lightings if you buy from Taobao directly. I had bought most of my downlights and cove light (LED strip) from Taobao directly, been using for few months and they all still looks good and in good working condition. Just key in "筒灯超簿天花灯" in the Taobao search bar and you can find many downlights to choose from, I usually prefer to buy from those with more positive review. I don't use agent to buy for me as I believe there are additional charges. You can use the 淘寶集运 (4px or PRouter), they are relatively good and you can select them as the shipping address when you checkout. There are tracking from taobao if you use them. Some items may not ship to Singapore directly and you got to chat them separately. These are usually the sensitive items and will cost slightly more to ship. I am using other courier which are cheaper but not recommended for those who are new to Taobao,
  23. How does "Place plasterboard over the entire ceiling area" work (if it is not false ceiling)? Glue the plasterboard to the ceiling? And that is mainly to cover the wiring or cover the ceiling cracks? How big is your house, a small house may still be ok, but big house will definitely be higher cost to cover the entire ceiling. What is the cost difference with false ceiling, understand you are not considering that due to low ceiling height. What is your ceiling height anyway? If your lighting wiring is not too long, you can get contractor to hack part of the ceiling and place trunking in it. Of course, there is hacking cost as well, so it depends if you are running long wire to the light or not. If short distance, hack the ceiling may be more cost effective. By hacking, I do not meant to tear the entire ceiling, just hack a track that is few cm deep and wide, good enough to hide the smallest trunking required for your wiring. Why not use L-box instead or Scandinavian Minimalist theme don't do L-box, (not familar with the theme)? For myself, I would think L-box is more practical as it can hide wire and can install downlights.
  24. How many gang and way light switch is yours. 1 way switch should be easier to test, use a test pen to test for "live" wire and "no live" wire. The rest should be quite straight forward with some trial and error.
  25. Usually, there are 2 spring at the side of the LED downlight to hold it to the false ceiling. You just need to slowly pull 1 side down and reveal part of the spring, use your finger to push the spring backwards and you can pull the light out. There will be dust drop off from your false ceiling but it should not be spoil that easily unless you use alot of force. It is easy once you do it a few times. I personally think is easier to change LED downlight than normal light bulb. My previous house downlight is those E27 light bulb, the downlight box is so small that it just fit the light bulb nicely. When I need to change the E27 lightbulb, I need to turn the lightbulb slowly in a small tight box and twist and turn to get the bulb out of the box. Thus, it depends on the light bulb box too.
